Bored in Space: 5K LY to unlock Palin

Or empyrion, or KSP, or a million other games, you mean to tell me you just play 1 game at a time?

Yeah, I kinda think it's sad that people support watching youtube when playing ED because they are so damn bored with the game, Frontier Developments should be embarrassed by such accepted behaviour, personally if I'm bored I simply stop playing and do something better...

It's not only support but actually encouraging people to do so.
There has been a thread a long time ago: What do you guys do while exploring?
Response: Audio books, music, youtube, netflix, etc

That basically just means that the gameplay is so mildly "demanding" that people focus on something else than the game. People run a 2nd screen/laptop to watch stuff, if they don't have a 2nd screen. That's a really sad statement for a game that is meant to be an entertainment product. It means people are not really entertained by the product they purchased and seek additional entertainment.

I'm not bored with the game as a whole. I'm just forced to do stuff in the game I find boring and tedious. It hurts my enjoyment of the game but I tell myself that once I finish this chore I can return to enjoying the game.

I bought a Krait and it feels so sluggish to me that I really want to see if it's better with dirty drives.

I enjoy mining, bounty hunting and combat zones. I feel that if they just dumped engineers and allowed you to buy any upgrades you want, this game would instantly be better. I could experiment with mixing and matching various upgrades to create specialized builds. I could feel confident enough to go in open and face-off in combat. Anyway, it is what it is.

Sad thing is that you can't fully enjoy the audiobook or Netflix distraction either, because the game still demands 50% of your attention on inane travel B.S.
U have to keep an eye on your distance and timer while in SC.
U have to ensure that you do not fly into a star's exclusion zone coming out of hyperspace... after the umpteenth jump.

We need a full fledged autopilot option.

Autocruise does that for you automatically now. I fitted one in my Explorer Clipper and ...... hey ! .... I didn't expect this feature, but no more pressing the X key on countdown :)

They should just add obstacle avoidance, and then link it to the ADC and call it an Autopilot.

It will Hyperspace for you, then fly you around the star and align you with the next jump.
Once it reaches the destination system, it will aim for the station you plotted the course too, and also avoiding the star and whatever planets in the way, fly to it, and then automatically request for docking, then follow standard ADC procedures.

What's the disadvantage?

  • It should cost a pretty hefty sum.
  • It should always fly in the blue zone, so if you're in a hurry, flying it manually would be a better option.
  • It will disengage if it should accidentally run into an exclusion zone, or if you get interdicted.

Basically an autopilot isn't meant to do all the flying for you. Not meant to be Easy Mode. But rather, Comforable Mode.
It should not be an expert pilot replacement. It just designed to get you to your destination, safely. No drama, No fuss, No Muss.

That's "at least".
And in a tiny ASP w only 32t of space..

A Python with only 128t nets you 200m

We're talking Void Opals at 1.6m a pop.

What do you mine in?
I'm currently using a cutter with 576 tons of cargo space. I can fill that up in about 2 hours, with painite. That will usually net me about 500 million, depending on current market prices, using miners tool. I think the main difference is, that core asteroids are fewer and farther between, then the less intensive mining methods.

The use of automated devices, really depends on what you're doing. I heard the same argument about too much automation, when it comes to the docking computers too. But when you're doing cargo runs, it comes in handy. It allows you to plan for your next jump or whatever, and now the auto launch also gives you time for that stuff. Not to mention the real world advantage of when you Auto dock it gives you time to take a leak.lol

576tons is worth over a billion in core mining Void Opals.

Yes mother lodes are rare. But there are..... other ways..... that you could fill up that 576 tons in just under 2 hours.
And that would be worth a cool 1.2bil ....

You can enjoy it, especially when you are doing exploration or long distance travel. Jump, honk, scoop, repeat. Doesn't require much interaction.

What this game needs is a major overhaul on the tediousness of it.
It costs them a lot of players, and more and more players are being bored out of their minds, moving on to different entertainment products.
I understand people taking a break from a game, because they need a break, that's one thing. But when one leaves a game because it's boring or tedious, the odds of them coming back to a boring and tedious game is slim to none.

Well, ya. If you can come up with 576 t of void opals in about 2 hours, that would blow the crud out of what I am doing. But with the smaller ships required for core mining maneuverability, and the extra trips to unload a smaller hold, do you think it can be done, in the practical sense? I will admit that two hours of mining can be somewhat draining. I only do it when I need cash (which isn't often, now), or when I need mining related mats for trading with the mat trader.

You can use an Anaconda or Python to mine.
Pythons are in fact the best ship for core mining. They're maneuverable enough to get in between the rocks after you blow them up.

As for core mining in a Cutter to fill up 576 tons of it. Well.. I don't have a cutter.
But.... ahem... Slip Mining.... will easily get you that much in an hour.

I will get around to trying core mining at some point. My likely choice would be a python, or maybe a krait. Not familiar with slip mining.

Forget I said that. It's an exploit. LOL...

But yeah, core mining is a more engaging way to make money.
Surface mining is meh, just shooting Laz0rs pew pew into a rock and picking up bits.

The only thing crap about core mining is the frequency.... or rather, infrequency.... of finding a proper core asteroid.

FDev.... C'mon. Core mining already requires a surfeit of skill, and isn't a sedentary activity like passenger/cargo runs.
Couldn't you just up the hit rate of these core rocks, F.F.S?

I prefer a Conda for this.

The only thing I'd change about core mining is the pulse wave scanner. Make cores actually stand out. We have 16m colours available, and they are either yellow, more yellow, deep yellow or orange and green. Seriously. Surface deposits: Green. Subsurface, Yellow, Core Red. DONE!

I've done the cutter mining scenario about 5 times now (not long, really). But yesterday was the first time I got a painite core detection. I didn't even know prospectors did that. I thought it was only that other scanner, that turns the rocks yellow. Using that, they're probably easier to spot. I think for a change of pace, I might buy an Orca. A few passenger missions in something with a nice coat of paint. Maybe, turquoise... Nah, somebody will shoot me on principle.

I suspect something is coming for Hyperspace jumps. If you plot a route in the Galmap, then look at your Nav panel, the panel takes a while to catch up with the routing now. I presume it is loading all the stop-offs into a route listing. It didn't used to do that.

Nothing wrong with having some aspects of a game not demand full attention and concentration. I find exploring and mining with some videos playing a good way of passing a bit of time. I don't always want to play a game that requires constant, full effort.

Waypoints maybe? You can now plot a route, then select another system (not on your route) and the nav panel will describe the selected system as a waypoint.
