I always check who I'm firing at and who their friends are. It's only prudent to know who you may be annoying.

In some circumstances it makes sense that factions might want to keep dealings with wanted "in house" or respond negatively to outsiders killing faction members even if they are wanted, but if these systems are in game they need to be clearly elucidated.
Then this is politics, is it not? And why, then, is the player expected to deal with politics amidst a firefight?
Whenever I find a WANTED pilot (either from a basic scan or using the KWS) in any system I now look to see to which faction they belong and then check if this faction is No1 or No2 influence in this area. I found that shooting at members of the top two factions (not a scientific test so treat with caution) brings down the wrath of all other members of that faction on my head. Shooting at No4 rarely gets you any attention.

It is already in the patch notes to say this should not be the case, there is no Police corruption or wanted to only be dealt with in house
Its not that, all authorities have rules about who can and cant be involved in use of force against criminals. In this country I can even use "excessive" force against someone breaking into my home, pretty sure they are wanted.
Since discovering the business with ship factions im now a lot more careful about who i attack. Perhaps even should check targets in anarchy systems.. Never know, one might belong to your favoured faction and ruin your reptatio. With them.
Huh, what does the county you live in have to do with the rules of the game?
Are you saying the in game factions, have coded in, different response to player actions against Wanted ships in their Jurisdiction, including protecting said wanted ships from harm by the player?
Im not saying they do or dont, Im saying its not that ridiculous if they do/did as authorities can label someone wanted, but still restrict who deals with them.
Mostly Harmless: Why is the police shooting at me when I shoot a wanted criminal?
Police doesn't like you shooting members of their minor faction. They will temporarily be "hostile" until you leave the instance. Don't shoot members of the ruling faction in the system if you are afraid of the police (check contacts). This has no implication on your rep. If you are just bounty hunting, best place to bounty hunt is in anarchy with Kill Warrant Scanner.
Its not politics its how law enforcement works in the real world, so its not unrealistic to expect some corollary in ED.
I agree it isn't ridiculous, but based on the patch notes and the Dev posts on the matter it doesn't seem to be the case; Authority ships aren't supposed to defend ships that have a bounty issued by their own faction.
By all means make a case for some System Authority Vessels to be on the take and help their Wanted Mates, but I don't think that is currently in place
View attachment 6740I lost credits because I had repair bills after they attacked. I could not fight back because they remained CLEAN even after attacking a ship with no fines or bounties on it. By the time FSD spooled up I was down to 60% hull.
This is ridiculous. Attacking a WANTED ship, causes security ships to engage me. Sure, I get that they're in the same faction and all. But in that case, make it that the ships engaging me without reason and/or provocation (other than them belonging to the same faction as the WANTED ship) lose their "badge", are wanted and can be engaged without reprecution.
