As of now, managing habitat animal population is a pain.

TLDR version:
  • keep filter settings in animal overview after closing
  • when entering genealogy from animal overview, give the option to go back (to the exact spot you where)
  • toggle whether to show animals not currently in the zoo in genealogy information
  • create a single interface that collects all information needed to manage an animal population and breeding
  • not related: please provide a heat map for stress
  • awesome game!

Long version:
When you open the animal tab in the zoo info and open the genealogy (I play german localization, so sorry if thats not the correct term) you can not just go back. Generally when you close this menu any filters and the like reset (unlike with every other menu in the game consistency is a mess...)

But even to fix that would just make it a little less annoying. What I'd like to have is a separate menu that you open, select a species and then you get all animals of that species currently in your zoo. (Quick aside her: give the option to toggle if sold/freed animals should appear in the genealogy - seriously, while planing my habitat population what do I care about animals that are long gone? It only makes it more difficult to identify an animal, as names tend to double very quickly)
Preferably order the animals visably by genealogy, but I get that this could be difficult with more complicated family structures. But if thats not practical then I'd settle for the option to select each animal, see the genealogy info on the side, without having to go back to the zoo overview every time. Also expand the information shown to include: is the animal sterile, how old is it, is it effected by incest in its genes. In this menu also give the option to give them contraception, sell / free them, and if you are feeling magnanimous, show the animals of that species currently on the market.

Basically all of this information is already in the game, just scattered all over the place - after building a new section of zoo, taking lots of time and concentration, I want the option to go through each species and see on first glance: Is there a need to act? Do I need to sell some, do I need to buy in fresh DNA? Is there a risk of incest? And then move on to the next species. If this takes half a dozen clicks for every species, it quickly becomes tedious even in smaller zoos.

Also, and this is not related, I'd like a heat map to see stress sources, I have a habitat, that is as far as I see sourounded by one way mirrors or not see through walls, but my springbocks constantly stress out, run to another place, where their stress begins to gett better, and then suddenly drops down again, without them moving at all. I'd like to analyse that and a heat map would be super helpful.

But before I leave with just critics: I bought the game a week ago, and I have played almost a hundred hours now. I really love it, just some of the UI needs polishing, but you build something really great!
