Bring back the classics

What ship would you like to see back most?

When you're ship takes the skies, and you look for surprise, that's a Moray.
When you fly to the black, then there's no looking back, that's a Moray!

When your ship is just right, to explore and to fight, that's a Moray.
It can land on the ground, or go swimming around, that's a Moray!

So when casting your vote, there is only one boat, that's a Moray.
and when Frontier see sense, and make a ship that's immense, that's a Moray!!!!!

Bring back the classics! Not just one, but *all* of them :D - yes, even Cobra mk. I's - from whatever long lost junk yard one might find those.

All of them, but especially the Krait. And I want it to look like a Krait. Meaning no radical design deviation like we've seen with some of the classics.

I like the Krait but the wingtip prongs that make it the Krait would be somewhat difficult to pull off in ED as the ships have a very realistic feel, whereas long skinny prongs would not be practical in real life for any reason whatsoever so not sure how they could be added. I would assume as some kind of weapons pods but then the purists would moan that its not the classic krait. Difficult one I think.

Horizons will bring ship-launched fighters and "very large trading ships".

We already know the Imperial and Federal fighters. But what about the independents? Krait or maybe Mamba can fill that role - a fast, probably De Lacy, light craft that packs a punch but has no room to fit a hypedrive.

"Very large trading ships" - first and foremost, it's the Panther. But also, this can mean the Boa! Or, maybe, just maybe - the Imperial Trader of old. (I'll keep my dreams of multicrewed Lynx Bulk Carrier to myself).

Also, I totally agree about what was said above about the Imperial Courier.

What we have today is a good, slick looking Imperial combat ship. But it is *not* the iconic Courier of Frontier intro.

Please, rename the current Courier to something else (Imperial Harrier, Imperial Gunboat, whatever) and bring back the true Courier of old.

Look at the antennae cluster of the Viper (and the peek of the Viper Mk IV). Make two of those and slightly enlarge. Fit to both sides of the Krait :p

I just want more choice of ships not too bothered whether they are remakes or not because the remakes they have added have been mostly rubbish - I hate the new Adder and Courier for example and most of the others look very much alike. I would like to see some non-streamlined ships for a change that cant land on planets or ones that are so huge they have to wait outside the stations and use a separate shuttle to access the stations etc. I would like to see some creativity - too many ships are the same its boring. Its as if Frontier are just gushing out ships now to make up the numbers there are no truly interesting designs coming out, its all very predictable.

They did a cracker of a job modernising the Cobra. I'm sure they could do the same with the Krait. How big are the ships with hangars? I might be tempted to go a little bigger if I could have a nice little Krait in my hold <grin>

Thats the issue though. The Vipers are just tiny antenna or something. If you make them Krait size they become a wavy vibrating wobbly big prong of uselessness right where the ships highest stress is on turns and rolls. Chunky guns would work but ED's gun model doesn't work like that as all weapons are identical for every ship model wise and they retract into a storage compartment. It would have to be added as a styled part of the ship I think like landing gear pods or something I reckon which would of course chunk them up a bit.

All of them.

I would make the Krait and Mamba pirate/smuggler ships that are roughly comparable to the Sidewinder and Cobra MkIII but have bonuses against scanning.

Fabulous! Fantastic! Unbeatable!

I intended to vote for the Krait, hmm, but wait, it's the Moray!

I vote for the Mamba - if I remember my Elite lore correctly this was a purpose built racing ship that got co-opted by pirates due to it's speed. We definitely need a fast small ship that can give the Cobra and Viper a run for their money.

Having said that, I'd hope that eventually we get to see *all* of the ships from previous versions. After all, there is supposed to be a ten year development plan somewhere.

Absolutely agree, the reason for the poll was just to see what one is best loved.

Voted for the Moray. Just because, when we have atmospheric planetary landings I want to see what lives in the oceans. :)

I respectfully disagree. The Krait was traditionally an assault craft. It had no other purpose than to shoot things. It's larger than a Sidewinder, it needs no frameshift drive, it needs no big fuel tank, it needs not much of anything. Give it two large hardpoints and one small hardpoint, no jump range, and let the fun begin :)

The problem with the Krait is that it's a bad investment for FD. It's a pretty big effort to create a ship (frame, skin, sounds, testing) and the Krait will be like the Sidie or Eagle. It's too small to hold the firepower required to compete with the large ships.

I'm with Poy - Imp Courier MkI.

Would it be a terribly offensive thing to see the Krait resurrected as an Alliance small fighter?

Watched the entire video brought back so many memories thanks baca rep to you (ps anyone else shocked by the graphics? They were so much better in my mind)

You're welcome, I was actually really impressed with the graphics (looking at the time period) and everything you could do in the game. Extremely impressive.

This inspired me to poke around a little to see a bit of the ships from former games. I found this video to be immensely informative.

Note that the smaller ships in the game actually have a purpose with high acceleration / military jump drives, for assassination and courier missions. This differentiation has been lost in E: D as all hyperspace jumps take the same time, and all FSD flight is at the same speeds.
