Amazing that Apple fans think Apple even care about gamers, let alone think gaming companies want to support a platform that doesn't care about gamersEven if it's just the "Legacy" version ... as things stand, they abandoned Mac then split Windows into Legacy and current .. surely we could still have Legacy Mac as an option, even if its the old 3.0 code base and silo'd? I'd be happy with that .. even better if it was offline too lol
I'm sure the two of you have convinced Apple and Frontier's error of their ways. Rumour has it Steve Jobs is spinning in his grave spouting "why the awful API, let's get games like Elite on our overpriced muppet-milking platform asap!"I was a kickstart backer, specifically because there was a Mac version .... I too would love to see the Mac version resurrected, even if only Legacy 3.0 mode
Now I am curious. Far superior for some things... Such as?Mac is a far superior platform compared with Windows for some things.
Some maturity could break out, but like a new macOS version, that's not going to happenWell, if people keep hoisting the piñata....
Viva La Dirt League has videos on Mac gaming..
Mac support for Thunderbolt / USB audio devices is far superior, in my experience. Now I am curious. Far superior for some things... Such as?
Maybe for lifestyle?
In my experience Mac is mostly used by people who are inept with computers but still need it for their work (such as designers).
The problem is that the mac Version was the old base game as the Horizons code was never available/compatible with the Mac but some time after the dropping of the Mac they rolled the Base and Horizons code into one with just a selector determining which was which much like how Horizons 4.0 and Odyssey work. Now that there is "Current" and "Legacy" could you please bring back the Mac version of the game, in Legacy mode, so we can continue to enjoy the game on the Mac? I don't care if it isn't the latest and greatest engines ..
I was one of the original Kickstarter backers of Eliteangerous, and I backed the game on in a big way because of there being a Mac version. I've since bought Console (XBox) (waste of money that was) and in the end bought a PC so I could continue to play, but fundamentally I'm a Mac user, and I really want to play on Mac .. even if I can't battle the Thargoids in the current war .. I'm happy just exploring, mining and bounty hunting.
My M1 Macbook Pro plays E reasonably well in Parallels, but it still isn't the same .. I just want to be able to play NATIVELY on my Mac
Video editing on the Mac just works. When I tried video editing software on Windows, I couldn't go for long before the audio sync was out. It may be fine now, but my rather ancient iMac and Final Cut Pro do a great job.The “out of the box” software for music editing (GarageBand), video editing (iMovie) and photo management (iPhoto / Photos) is also way better than anything you get “for free” on Windows.
Isn't the base game still selectable from the launcher (no idea why)? The problem is that the mac Version was the old base game as the Horizons code was never available/compatible with the Mac but some time after the dropping of the Mac they rolled the Base and Horizons code into one with just a selector determining which was which much like how Horizons 4.0 and Odyssey work.
So to bring the Mac version back someone would have to bin dive to find the old code or write it from scratch neither of which are likely to make commercial sense.
It's "Elite Dangerous Odyssey Compatibility Update (3.8.14.0)": Horizons with the planetary approach module disabled.Isn't the base game still selectable from the launcher
Generally I wouldn't say that device support is better on Mac OS, it's possible that there are a few exceptions though. It's definitely not far superior.Mac support for Thunderbolt / USB audio devices is far superior, in my experience.
"Out of the box" is nothing many professional user would use in my experience. Apart from that most software is available on both systems, so I can't see how MacOS is far superior. The “out of the box” software for music editing (GarageBand), video editing (iMovie) and photo management (iPhoto / Photos) is also way better than anything you get “for free” on Windows. Once you’re paying money, sure Logic Pro is great but you could equally buy a decent DAW on Windows as well.
That's true. But it's mostly because the system is less flexible and less popular.Mac OS is also far more secure, less susceptible to viruses and more stable. Again - in my experience, which may not be everyone’s.
How is it better suited for design tasks? As I already said, most professional software is available on both systems so I can't see why it should be far superior. People usually use a Mac because they think it's cool and better. And, yes, it’s generally been acknowledged as better for design tasks but I think calling designers “inept” with computers is very harsh!
In that case I would hope you could actually provide a few examples why programming is better on a Mac. Anyway, you should prefer Linux.FWIW, I’m a software architect / programmer by trade and the only reason I have a PC at home is for gaming. For everything else, I would be much happier with a Mac. And I’d much rather see a UNiX-like OS when I fire up the command line!
Yes. In legacy it is a way to get you to orbit if trapped by accident in an SRV in Horizons.Isn't the base game still selectable from the launcher (no idea why)?
