i left it on the radiator for a day or so, it tried to come back on bless it, spluttered a little, then gave a bit of false hope, then died
it was an old dell one from about 7 years ago if not longer, it was probably thankfull for the oppotunity to die
ya, lemonade is too acidic for heat or rice alone. The only chance of saving that old girl would have been to immediately pop out the battery and keys, actually wash it out (carefully) with distilled water (the keyboard too lol), THEN shove it in rice and leave it in a dry warm place for a few days.. even then it's a gamble. Sadly, traces and anything acidic just don't mix well at all. Even tea will corrode them in a hurry.

Guys, I just want to say one more thing on this subject of buyouts, etc.
Point blank... Microsoft, or whoever, would not likely do this. Not only will a sell out potentially impact the game negatively, but the community as well. This kind of community, at its best is rather rare. We can't forget that for all the ups and downs, Frontier is part of that community.

You have your DOB as part of your username????

I sense a disturbance in the op sec community, as if millions of security experts just cried out in horror.
Ok, but what you can do with my birthday now, I guess millions of peoples has their birthday in there name, see this daily when I’ve been online on PlayStation.

but yeah, it’s a little bit dangerous, good that I didn’t use my birthday in any of my PW.

lol... you honestly probably don't want to know the answer to that question. I would seriously suggest trying to get that changed. Just sayin'

Yeah no, putting a device in rice does absolutely nothing. The best thing to do is scrub it in a bath of isopropyl alcohol to displace the liquids before they cause further damage. If you leave it out to dry you might luck out, but rice will have absolutely zero impact on the effictiveness of that. You might as well wrap it in toilet paper or slices of bread.

I may be completely wrong about this but I have the sense that a lot of the people on the forums have sort of a bad ex-wife relationship with ED. Something along the lines of: they’ve played it for multiple thousands of hours and over that time it stopped exciting them the way it did at the start of their relationship. Eventually the relationship turned sour, then bitter, and now they don’t really even play anymore but follow closely enough to take shots at it and take glee in anything negative that happens.

As a newer but established player (~700 hours,) I find a lot of what happens on the forum a bit confusing and kind of depressing. It’s probably the most hours I have in any game and I’m still finding things almost every day that are fresh and exciting. I feel like the new boyfriend. I know she’s not perfect and has been through a lot and I love her and appreciate her for the amazing game she is!

There seems to be a lot of criticism on here from people who have (or maybe had) passion for the game, but their love for it is long gone. Their “ex” has changed and gone her own way and when she falls on hard times it brings a smile to their face. The whole thing is pretty toxic for everyone involved. The best path forward might be for both sides to admit they’ve grown apart, don’t share each other’s vision of the future, and just went their separate ways.

Or maybe I’m reading too much into everything and this is just how Internet forums are.
You know, the whole ex-wife/girlfriend analogy is pretty apt.

I want fun, challenging combat [sex] from Elite [my wife], and it [she] will provide that to me... BUT, not before it [she] makes me jump through a bunch of hoops, doing things I really resent being forced to do.

That resentment builds up over time and manifests as schadenfreude and bitterness.

Market correction or not, FDev won't sell anytime soon nor would anyone seriously consider buying it at this time.

A new Jurassic movie will come along shortly, that should lift the game (a little) if they make the necessary improvements. Elite's community is bottomed out for the time being while they work EDO, should be able to recoup most of it over 2022 with Star Citizen slowing down for the foreseeable year. The console market will continue to wither, likely bust when they inevitably announce leaving lastgen behind.

If they solve EDO's branding problem (and its actual gameplay problems) to the point a 'fresh' launch on console (currentgen) happens and goes well, the stock will rise nicely. Then and only then would the properties reach a value worth considering for purchase. Had EDO not been so botched, these conversations would have a lot more merit. Given how FDev has been working on its titles, and accruing licensing, it's not hard to see that Frontier might have been angling for a sale pre-EDO.

But they goofed up their closing argument for any such deal.

K, so rice is extremely hydrophilic. By itself, as rice, you'd be correct. What it does though is it lower the water content in the air in its immediate area if so exposed. (i.e. putting something in rice, then sealing it up is self defeating, but if the rice is openly exposed then it will accelerate the evaporation process). As to isopropanol, will this is in many ways better, most people don't have gallons of the stuff laying about or readily available. What's more, its both conductive and flammable. This means it has the potential for causing significantly more problems than it solves without the right level of care.
That's why I suggest water when this question comes up. If someone fails to get all the water out before they plug it in, then poof goes the board. If they fail to get all the isopropanol out, worse case could be poof goes the house lol... While this is obviously not a huge risk I just don't want to be that guy that gets told my advice burned the house down and killed the cat because I told them to heh.

As a generality, there are a few who have been playing too long, but refuse to stop... (maybe the sunken cost fallacy) Or even may never have played, or know someone who played and disliked the game... Then there are the ones who bought the game for what it might be, rather than what it is. Others are just played out and appear resentful that others are still enjoying the game.

I'm probably approaching 6,000 hours of play and, similar to yourself, have still find playing the game (moreso since EDO launched, even with its 'issues') can happily occupy a few hours at a time... Now playing in a small group in EDO, this introduced a good deal of hilarity into playing, as well as giving our little group some 'new' fun in playing cooperatively in many mission types!

I think the point in the talk about FDev being ripe for takeover is because it's value is at the 'bargain' price, all the positive things you mention that would bring the price back up again would be seen as the return on the investment rather than making it a more attractive purchase proposition after all of that.

So for me elite, is more than a game, when you play it with the right peoples and get deep into the bgs powerplay things, then elite opens to the fullished, I know their is especially on this both topics a lot of opportunity to fix stuff, but in my core times on elite, it feels like a place where I dissapear into another world, the roleplay and Mindgame of this games is outstanding.

I told every newbie to see elite not as a game with a endgame, it’s really a hobby. And as someone who had playing a lot games, I can assure anybody, that elite has a very wide gameplay variation. Ok broken to the elementar things, your just only fly to point A destroy this and that or scan this and that, but in my head there is a movie running down the line. As an good example, who had tried to build a stealthy ship and try to pirates some guys without getting into their radar. It was a huge fun to go into stealth and open some hatches without getting detected by the cmdrs. Such things, or going into a bgs war, after the diplomatic had failed. IMO elite gives you a lot stuff to do, and when you aren’t willing spending the time to outfit a corvette then you should try other things. I mean when you as an example play WoW your character wouldn’t reach maxed out level in two days or?

i know this off topic, sorry for that, but this grind discuss is weird to me, out there are games which are totally escalated on grind like destiny.

Edit: again for the off topic post

Happy belated birthday sweetheart!

What did you get for your birthday? (Part of me wants to be a devil and ask if you got a pc...) ;)

And yeah never use your birthday mate, risky business
Thanks for that ❤️

no sadly not, will stay on consoles, but who knows what the future brings.

some space related stuff, a lamp which look like a planet, some clothes . I am the only one who take notice that when your getting older your Family struggles to get presents for you? 😂

i think it has to do with the possibilty that everything what I want I bought it myself.

but with space related gifts I’m always happy. Now fdev can bring up a lately present and breaks their silence for every one who is affected.

Edit: I am totally addicted to space things and everything which is related to this.
