Community Event / Creation Buckyball Racing Club presents: Land of Hope and Glory (Dec. 5-11)

I'll do my best to squeeze in a race. I'm home a couple of hours before leaving on a new mission on monday morning.

I had a quick shot at this earlier in the week and realised how truly dreadful I am at controlling the buggy.
Hopefully get a few runs in tomorrow.

Been away far too long.

Quick question:
Does it have to be a video entry? I don't have anywhere to upload to.
Or can I grab the relevant screenshots from the video and post to imgur?

I'm going to ask in the main BRC thread if my idea on this has merit or no. I do have an idea - it would be 24 screenshots - but this is one of those cases where I'm wondering if I missed something.

Sent the mail.
Crappy time, but Alec won't be alone anymore.

Thanks! I've received the email; will look it over in the next couple hours.

As for the time being "crappy", it's actually pretty good. The best of my trial runs when I was testing this were a bit over a minute - and there's always something that could go wrong with it, as there are some tight places to get through.

Entry now submitted. The time is, errm, not competitive, mainly due to me being away from home at the moment, and I really haven't got the hang of controlling SRVs (or ships, for that matter) by mouse and keyboard!

Day... what day is it, anyway? Does time have any meaning for Dav's Hope?

27175642509_0b9c6df31f_b.jpg

The quiet desolation of Dav's Hope was shattered on Saturday, with three new entries, including a new race leader.

CMDR Inodoro Pereyra started the day's festivities by taking the SRV, the "Crappy Collector", on a tour through the settlement, collecting all of the materials and making a solid time of 1 minute and 13 seconds.

Nitrogue, with the SRV "Which Way Is Up?" stormed through Dav's Hope, setting a blistering time for everyone to match. Proving to have skills worthy of the name, Nitrogue flew through the course in 53 seconds, besting Alec Turner's time by 3 seconds and making their way to the top the leaderboard. Well done!

Finally, Buckyball veteran Samwell Drakhyr also made his way to the gate at Dav's Hope. Despite significant problems caused by unfamiliar equipment, he was able to take "Whirling Dervish" on a tour of the settlement, collecting all 10 materials in 2 minutes and 2 seconds.

The philosophical question came up as to whether a pod racer could be considered a "land vehicle". The ruling from the judges was that a Star Wars-style pod racer would be classified in much the same way as a hovercraft - while it may not be on the ground, it is clearly achieving lift of some type (in this case, suspensor lift) directly from the ground. Ergo, it is a "land vehicle".

Beyond this... I've been asked if screenshots could be used in lieu of posting a video. After some discussion, screenshots can be used as proof if the following 14 screenshots are included:

1: A screenshot of the number of materials in storage before start.
2: Standing start at gate.
3-12: One screenshots just after each item is picked up, when it shows the text on-screen indicating the pick-up.
13: Finish - crossing the gate.
14: A screenshot of the number of materials in storage after finish.

Also, unless anyone has any objections, I am going to extend the race for one more week, making the completion time December 18 rather than December 11.

Well done to all competitors, and I hope to see more soon!

Hurrah, I'm not going to win by default!
Drat, I'm not going to win at all!

Nice driving Nitrogue, looks like I'll be heading back to Dav's Hope next week sometime to try and re-claim pole position.

Oh, and re: the screenshot rules ...

14: A screenshot of the number of materials in storage after start.
I assume that should read "after the finish".

I said crappy compared with the state-of-the-art drivers... Nitrogue & Alec.
Maybe I'm too much influenced by the "drive right" policies in RL work... ;-)
As I arrive to Dav's with 966 materials, barely had storage space, and need to purge all the collected stuff after each run (that was where most of the time was invested).
I'll probably retry with my son account... that has plenty of storage.

Onane - Favorite land racing vehicle, "Fiat 147 Racing"

Now that's a connoisseur's choice! :D

I had the pleasure of trying a friend's 127 many years ago (that was the 147 original name in Italy/Europe), and it wasn't even a Racing or Sport trim...a riding coffin, but they don't make them as fun anymore, period.
And even as much as my current one is silent, roomy, comfortable and well-equipped (relatively speaking at least, it's still very cheap stuff), I still miss the fun of my first Uno ...

Also, yay for the extended race period! Now I have at least some hope of making it!

Thanks for extending the race period. Didn't manage to find the time, because I was just about to start up the game and it wants to update. Will try to race later next week.

But I did update my signature

The 147 was my first car, but the cheapest model "T", It was completely fun to drive, and very easy to fix.
It was so overpowered with the 1.4 engine for a 800kg weight, that it always screech the tires (145/80R13) in every traffic light. ...so I changed the tires to 165/75R13.... ...and added a fake alarm (just a blinking led on the dashboard) because if was a favorite prey for the thieves in that time.

Ah! The fake alarm led, those were the times :D
We had that on both my Uno and my brother's Ritmo, and with great effect too! The Uno got stolen only two times (the second one, I found it after more than a year...still working), the Ritmo opened once to steal the radio and sub-woofer. Fun fact, we discovered this the morning that we were taking it to go buy a new radio, since that one had broken. The woofer was perfectly working though. [mad]

My Uno had 55 hp...and was a lot snappier than the 95 hp I have now...

On the Seventh Day... Dav's Hope was busy.

38091782435_8924ccc1f9_b.jpg

Some competition has entered into Dav’s Hope on Sunday.

First, Perseus Tacitus has produced a strong entry into Land of Hope and Glory, producing a fast time of 51 seconds in the SRV “Hoonicorn 3303” while picking up all 10 materials.

Hanekura Shizuka finally made it back to Dav’s Hope to produce a run. In the SRV “Konchuu”, Shizuka produced a time of 1 minute and 1 second. Shizuka then went to a bar on Galileo to forget this ever happened, and wonders how in the world Perseus and Nitrogue could produce the times they did. (For transparency's sake, the run in all its "glory" can be found here)

Speaking of Nitrogue… Nitrogue proved to be a CMDR not content to rest on their laurels. Taking “Which Way Is Up? for one more spin, Nitrogue improved on the previous time set on Saturday, producing a time of 50 seconds to preserve the top spot on the leaderboard.

Well done to everyone who’s participated so far!
