Nice! (alas out of rep). In due course I might actually get around to giving this one a try, thanks for continuing to organise it Raiko!
It would be nice to see Bananery Fandango or The Wedding Anniversary on the leaderboard.
If the race needs good BGS states in key systems, then that only exacerbates the issue.
Regarding the reliance on a BGS-Boom window, as a Dolphin pilot I think you'll actually like my reasoning here. Plus these systems are in boom a lot anyway.
I'm dumping the handicap system completely, it didn't work well, wasn't balanced, and got more unbalanced as FD buffed some of the ships.
I didn't want the new event to be an auto win for the DBX though (great racer though it is), I wanted the race to reward versatility as well as range.
Having said that, I also don't want to make it an auto win for the Asp-X.
Discounting the Cobra for now, if you take a selection of classic rares traders/smugglers and order them by jump range you get this:
DBX -> Asp-X -> Dolphin -> Python -> iClipper
Ordering the same ships by cargo capacity, I think you get this (ie the reverse):
iClipper -> Python -> Dolphin -> Asp-X -> DBX
For the new race, you'll need to deliver 20t of illegal rares to each of 5 destination black-markets, dead-drop 8 tons of rare booze inside a couple of installations, and finally return to Weyl Gateway with 20 tons of legal rares ('cus the Lonnigans are 100% legit, honest).
So the most optimal route for a DBX might not be the same as for a Python, because the DBX can't pick up 57 tons of HIP Organophosphates like the Python.
And the Asp-X can boost it's hold size, but only by dropping it's huge fuel-scoop.
Getting back to the Cobra, the "regulation" class will be Cobra Classic Class (as used in the festival of racing) open to all unengineered Cobra Mk.IIIs and Mk.IVs, normally the Mk.III is superior in every way, but for this the Mk.IV's larger holder might make up for it's shorter range / lower speed.
