Buckyball Run 6: It's a matter of style, you can't fake it!

Forgive me for being dumb but what do you mean by "dash clock"? Are you just saying take a sreenshot once you've landed that shows the station name and the time? Perhaps an example screenshot for Buckyball noobs?

Yes that is correct. Once you dock, the station menu will have the clock on it. ElectricZ is interested in the time shown on that clock for race timekeeping.

Race done and time PM'd to man.
I used my Disco scanner whilst waiting for my FSD to cooldown and the map data paid for my fuel :)

Here we go again... The Schwartzschild Radius is still in the shop so you get the current flagship of my fleet, the Fallen Empress. As with previous runs It'll be a "run what ya brung" config, unstripped since my preferred paintjob does not include either a big target or the words "Shoot me, I'm defenseless"

So I just did my first trial on this course.

Not too happy! Not happy at all!

First, I had to buy a new Cobra (I ain't gonna have my precious exploration Cobra go kaboom if I slam into a station wall!). 'sides, I spent a heap of time looking for just the right modules for it and I don't want to have to repeat that if I sold the modules off to make it lighter.

So... the new Cobra cost me 7.5 mill CRs. Dang! Plus, I got it at Founder's World too, so I already had a 10% discount off the pricetag. I can imagine if I bought it at any regular Mom-and-Pop High Tech world... gonna be over 10 million CRs I bet!

Anyway, yeah ran the course, not too happy with the time. Had a few slip-ups (missed pads, took too long in galaxy map etc) so yeah I'm gonna have to re-run it again and see if I get a better time. In any case, I got this run all recorded and can be submitted if my subsequent runs are worse than this one :D

I've had not much luck either! First run Ended with me pancaking into the inside wall of Froude Ring. I completed my second run, but had some major problems Finding my route in the Navigation Panel. Was even interdicted at Wolf 359! I'll go for another run in a few hours before I post times.

While I was scouting out the route, I saw a CMDR in a Cobra pirating other CMDRs at Wolf 359. Reasoning that it's not a good thing to have pirates active at our rally stops, I bought an FSD interdictor, went back and pulled the offender out of supercruise. As soon as I started to damage them they fled, insulting my piloting skills while boosting away with their hull at half health... ^^ So I pulled them out of SC again and they quit their game client.

Anyhoo, be warned, folks - if you're flying race-configured ships watch out for scallywags!

First attempt completed.. Not happy with the time as it was far from a perfect run, but I'm going to submit it anyway, to avoid a DNF :) I'm pretty certain I can shave a few minutes off it later :)

This is a fun little side game.

I typically live down in Imperial space, so it was a >200 LY trip to the start line. I used that to practice my navigation and jumping routine. I did a trial run of the race route first, which was reasonably decent, except for a couple of moments of server lag in stations, and an NPC trying to interdict me on the way to Vasylev, and discovering one of the stars on my route from an external planner did in fact not exist in the game, so I lost a couple of minutes in the galaxy map finding a suitable replacement.

Then I did a proper run... well, I started. And what do you know, an NPC tries to interdict me on the run to Vasylev. I shake it off, and return to the start line again. Next attempt... again! An interdiction attempt on the run to Vasylev. What is up with LP 131-66? It seems a pretty lawless place! Luckily my next attempt finally saw no interdictions and I got a pretty nice clean run the whole way through.

I think I will try a Sidewinder run too before the week is out, that'll be a bigger challenge!

Good luck everyone :) May the AI leave you alone.

SON OF A...

Not what you see when you jump into a system with an empty fuel tank. :(

Had plenty of time to screenshot and post on my way to scenic Grego Port.

OK race fans, day one of BBR6 is at an end. Let's see what we have...

caolRQK.jpg

First off, welcome to all the new racers! We've got a mix of veterans and first timers in the lineup and a good mix of ships, with 3 already posting times and another dozen on the launch pad. CMDRS Eggplant, Dannen, aowqyaaw, Jorin Saari, Zieman, Reynard11, J. Sparo, Nickelpede, Lunchmoney, and MostlyEvilKiwi, welcome to the Buckyball! Looking forward to meeting you at the after party at the finish line! Remember to tip your servers...

Right off the bat, MostlyEvilKiwi has taken a commanding lead on the Solo Unlimited board in his bumble-bee painted hauler Turnip, streaking past Lunchmoney's Cobra Delores. And some other stuff happened on the Open Unlimted board that doesn't bear mentioning...

Ahem. So back to the welcomes! coming back for more BBR fun we have Two-Time Buckyball Champion CMDR Hardware! He missed out on the last couple of runs but it's good to see him back in the lineup in the Audrey Hepburn. The Viper isn't quite the monster it was back in the Beta, but I'm sure he'll make the best of it.

We also have Cheetah, now a three time runner and one of the few survivors of the ill-fated Buckyball Run 4. Murphy's Law would have been a suitable ship to field in that race, but I bet it'll be an easier go for all of us this time around. Welcome back, Cheetah!

And we have CMDR Da5id Weatherwax on his fourth Buckyball Sorry to hear the Schwarzchild Radius is still in the shop and a heartfelt "welcome back" and "screw you" at the same time for being the first pilot to knock me out of first place in Open Unlimited. :p

Finally, another welcome back to Jackie Silver, another longtime Buckyballer going all the way back to first Buckyball where he successfully raced an Eagle Mk II (in British Racing Green, natch) when it was thought to be impossible due to the then-limited range of the Eagle. Looking forward to tangoing with the Jump Cannon along with our old friend FoxTwo in his Cobra Friendship Drive.

Day one is over. Can't wait to see what day two brings.

Ran out of fuel myself on my reconnaissance run today. Just cut it bit too thin near the end and came up 1 jump shy. First time yet I've actually had to self destruct in the game. Also had two 90 second plus wormhole hangs today so I might go Solo for the real attempt. I know that doesn't affect fuel consumption and I'm happy to deal with interdictions heading for refueling (I had two of those) but that's 3 extra minutes I'd rather not have added to my time after all.

I've never experienced that in Solo mode... maybe it was just because of the time of day I was on (was earlier then I normally play, probably more people online), who knows, worse I ever had before was maybe 30 seconds worth but today I was worried it might never load and I'd have to restart the game. hmmmmm

...the first pilot to knock me out of first place in Open Unlimited. :p ...

Oh it won't last... As I did running the big snake in beta I'm not stripping from my regular config so it's more than possible that one of the other Asps in the starting blocks will be able to do it in fewer jumps than I can - and as we all know, shaving off a jump is an almost unbeatable bonus in the buckyball. I believe, though this is actually my first ever time on top of a section in a daily update so I'm going to savor it for the brief time it lasts :)

I'm glad I kept the hardware though, because my second attempt at a run was interfered with by a scurvy rat so I boiled him (with a little extra vindictiveness for spoiling a buckyball) and headed back to the start. I'm not dropping the scoop either, even though I'm actually paying for fuel to save time on these runs. Crashing it is one thing, being unable to save a misjudgement on fuel is another. There will be a route optimizing session later tonight and I'll see if I can actually shave off some of the time I wasted on the first one.

I'll add my name to the pack

CMDR Name: Ilseroth
Ship name: Greywing
Ship type: Viper
Preferred Co-Pilot: Fen

I may end up being unable to get a good run; but I'll at least get a run done in the next week :)

I was wondering what the dots beside our names were for... then it dawned on me that it represented the number of Buckyballs we've run :)

And GHDW's 2 hollow squares probably meant he was champion twice.

I wonder how the leaderboard would look at Buckyball 25... and how our names would look then :D

Ah, looks like i'm gonna miss this one, 1800ly from Sol and still on the outbound leg. Probably won't be back near a space station for a couple of weeks at the rate i'm going.

managed to shave a couple minutes on my 4th attempt even with a couple of botched dockings.. uploading :)
