Parking in DRYAU AOWSY EY-H D10-3392 for the night.
~19,000 LY isn't bad for one day, for a first-timer to long range travel. I'll take it.
6838.81 LY to go.

Ran into lots of issues with plotting starting at the 12,000 LY (from Sgr A*) mark. Started plotting my routes upward, slowly, painfully, 30 LY at a time. Finally got free of the clutter, back to plotting 500 LY routes.

Sláinte agus táinte.

Somewhere either in this thread on in the explorers forum there is an explanation of using 'magic numbers'. I'm a little hazy on the details but the basic idea is choosing something very close to a multiple of your jump range. Most of the time I was able to plot 330 ly courses even in the thickest parts of the centre, but being off by a lightyear or more completely wrecks it.

Like mjmw, I am a little short of the funds needed to outfit an Anaconda to properly challenge. It appears I'm a bit closer than he is, so it's a mere 150m credits or so I need.
Same here, although I think that I could just about afford a Trade Conda at the moment, which might be the best way to fund a Buckyball / Exploration Conda.

CMDR Ziljan

Ship Name: Bessel Meridian

Ship Type: Asp
Welcome to the Buckyball Run CMDR Ziljan!

I hope you're not going to fly too fast and knock my time further down the rankings! ;)

Good luck and fly fast CMDR! When are you expecting to run?

(And welcome to all the other CMDRs who I don’t already know).

Well done to all you persevering commanders. I made it last Tuesday only to learn about Buckyball 8! Now I can't linger around here and need to get back. Least we've got a few weeks.
I still need to get there and back, just about enough time though I hope. :)

So, I've just got back to Sol from my run. A conversation with another commander earlier today led me to realise - over the last 9 weeks (plus a day, technically), I've flown well over 150,000LY...

I think I'll be glad to spend a little time operating over much shorter distances in the bubble up until BBR8!

Welcome home CMDR.

Glad I am not the only one who has put in the light years recently - with all the prep and practice for my Hauler and 2 Asp runs, I have done a similar amount of distance...since the start of June  (wish I hadn't just worked that out).

I relocated my small fleet to a new home last week. Its a system with several RES as well as a great outfitters and currently sits outside PP control, so nice and quiet. I am really looking forward to spending some quality time with my Vulture - it has the jump capability of a small tortoise ;)

Not to mention getting some docking practice in for BBR8 :D

The Rules said:
  • PM me links to your screenshots, three total: your outfitting screen, start time on the dock, gal map showing end time and location at Sag A*. Feel free to post supporting evidence, your Sag A* Selfies, etc, in the thread. In fact, take a few for insurance purposes, in case you are called out by another racer.
  • With your screenshots, include the following information:
  • Your Commander's Name
  • Your Ship's Name
  • Your total race Time. Use a site like Time Duration Calculator for easy calculation. Please include your time because I guarantee I will mess it up and you will be unhappy.
  • A short quote (40-50 chars) upon reaching the finish line! It can be anything you like. Something inspirational. A dedication to someone. Just keep it clean and your words will go down in history.
  • PM me your real-world, earthbound mailing address and you'll receive an official real-world Buckyball Run A* bumper sticker at no cost to you! You earned it, sport!

And now a word from your friendly neighborhood race organizer... Upon completion of the run, kindly submit all of the requested info above in a PM, including your CMDR Name, Ship name, race time and links to your images. I've been getting a whole slew of submissions lately that are missing some/most of this information. It really, really slows me down if I have to go digging for it. It's a big help if you send it all at once. As disorganized and lazy as I am, it's easy for me to miss even when it's in one neat little package.

Thanks,

The Management

Ahoy cobbers!

No-one expected a second CMDR to fly an Orca to Sag A*.
No-one expected a CMDR to fly their Orca with a full hold of Rare Alcohols & Onionhead
No-one expected The Spanish Inquisition

No-one expected the trip to be made in any reasonable time.

It hasn't. I'm still about 3,000Ly out.

I expect to be there sometime on Thursday (I never could get the hang of Thursdays...). I think I might be able to claim the record for the slowest recorded official time.

As I am carrying 8T of illegal intoxicating substances, I expect there will be some thirsty CMDRs in need of some home comforts waiting for me.

All I ask for in return is some formation flying for photos, and any spare helium tanks and puncture repair kits you may be carrying.

Keep on keeping on man, you're so close we can almost smell it.

P.S. with all the gear you're hauling you wanna watch out for singularity bats, they're drawn to that stuff like attorney's to absinthe!

I arrived at Sagittarius A* at 13:21:35 (game time) this afternoon! Having left at 09:42:56 on 4th July, this makes my time: 2 days, 3 hours, 38 minutes and 39 seconds.

Looking out by looking in!
I'll be taking the scenic route home: it's going to be a while!

I've already made it yesterday to "Sadge", after a total time of 14:24:02.
Aimed for the top ten, actually, but.. I may repeat the run some time. (Then with a 40+ ly 'conda, got only 36.5ly this time..)

What's now waiting, is the opposite side of the galaxy, Sadge is just a stopover. But I'll take a look in the core first, as it's still the first time I'm here..

And my ship got finally a name: A.N.N.I.E. (Adventurous (and) Notoriously Nosey Intergalactic Explorer) :D

And, of course, congratulation to all others which completed the run! :)

I spy a sneaky board update to the front page...hope EZ noticed my new quote otherwise the sponsors won't be happy ;)

- - - Updated - - -

Congrats to Skinbak, Andrew Dermott, Edelgard von Rhein and Nilmerg for completing your runs - well done :)

I suspect I'm about to do something... like give my new ship a nice looooong maiden flight*.

CMDR: RandomGun
Ship type: Diamondback Explorer
Ship name: Better Luck Next Time**

* I have tested the ship only 80 ly and 3 jumps :)
** The name haunts me, but I can't bring myself to change it!

Well, that gives me some incentive to be there on Thursday. I started from Wolf 359 today and am currently at NGC 6357 at 8000 ly from Sol.

I have no cargo space though. :(

Sounds like a plan. Have been grinding away for days upon weeks now, trading my life away, backwards and forwards, backwards and forwards. Was looking for something more rewarding, more fulfilling than earning 6 million an hour. What better idea than spend the next portion of my existence in perpetual hyper jump? I'm set......

CMDR name: Jon Luc
Ship name:One Hundred Years of Solitude
Ship type: Python

Ok, after hours of deliberation on whether or not to go ahead, setting up, supplies etc. Steam has kindly informed me of a 45 minute ED update. I will leave tonight....
