Ohey, look what I got...

sticker2.jpg

Once again, I cannot express how completely awesome it was of you to do this, ElectricZ. So, when you get back and see this... thank you very much.

Gee, I feel so left out cuz I don't have any Magic Numbers list of any sort :( 90% of my galaxy map plots have been instant-plots, and only 2 or 3 portions of the journey I had to under-plot to about 500 LY in my Cobra. There wasn't a need to look for "magic numbers" at the time too... cuz that was during the first few days of the BBRA*... no one had made it there yet to have any knowledge of what might transpire... yes, it was the time before the Aucoks!

Anyway I keep my BBR notes on Notepad (blue lil icon thing on your 'puter)... so even if I had a Magic Numbers list I couldn't take a pic of it together with my sticker :(

pretty sure it doesn't get as confused when you've got a lower jump range, like you had in your cobra. as it doesn't need to calculate so many routes if you go over a multiple.
let us know if you ever try a competitive run in a asp or conda and you get instant plots using random variable numbers for the latter part of the course . i.e 20-26k.
you don't need to find your magic number if your planning on having a fun run.

As for how to post pics... for posting them in the thread you can use the attach images button above the text window when you're typing in your post. However, you can't do that with PM's, so you'll need to post them on an image hosting site somewhere before pm'ing them to ElectricZ (which, he's away from the forums for a little while right now, so his inbox is probably full anyway... you might have to save that part for when he gets back!)

ElectricZ's profile has an email link if his pm box is full, remember the undoctered bmps have to be sent, no crops or hiding credits, valid shots of outfitting, start time and nav map showing player marker at sadge distance 0 with time are the only ones that will count. and if you beat my time, ill be asking Ez to check the validity of the shots.

I had a friend tracking my 1000 LY splits on his laptop. I suppose I could have taken a picture with the spreadsheet. :p

This is one of the reasons I am so confident I could break 12 hours in the Hauler if I had to do it again. I know the difference betwen my fast splits and my slow ones, and I know what mistakes I made that made the slow ones slow and how to correct them. If everything went right, I might even could break 11, but that would have to be nearly letter-perfect the whole way.

Hahah ya know what? I actually outfitted my Asp just last night, for an experimental run. I had like a 32.xx LY range on it.

So I plotted my first 1000 LY (the same exact ones used on my Cobra and Vulture) and off I went - and it took me 34 mins. That is not a record-breaking run at all. If I were to do a PERFECT RUN on that configuration, I would still take 14 hours 43 minutes to arrive. PERFECT. No mistakes, no GalMap Sadness (tm), and no Ship Cooking... :D

So, naaahhh I wouldn't be doing another BBRA* run that soon.. gimme a couple of months, maybe I'll try again in a different ship. Python maybe... Everybody's doing it on the Asp, it's almost like a cliche now. "Oh The Buckyball A run? Yeah I'm running it on the Asp".

To get anywhere near a 10-hour trip, one would need to jump 44 LY per minute.... so either try to get a range of 44 LY per jump on your ship, or try to make sure your 4...3...2..1 cycle to the next one is around 30 to 45 seconds each on a 30-ish LY range ship :D

Latest Radio Sidewinder News Bulletin concerning the Breaking of the 9hr Barrier for the Sol to Sagittarious A* run is available on Soundcloud.

Expect to hear it in the station rotation in the very near future.
Congratulations again CMDR Alot (Esvandiary)

*Many thanks go out to CMDR Arbitration for the Post-Production and Editing, and CMDR Neuroplay for the Background Music.
Seriously without these guys, and all the help they've given me, I'd sound like a Chipmunk in an Empty Trash Can*

I'd like to hear how a chipmunk on helium sounds like.. :)

try getting your asp jump range up to 36+ if your concerned about the time it takes to get there. if not ignore the post ;)

I would think about it as 1k ly sprints and time yourself over that rather than jump distance per minute, as you have to factor in a few things over 1k, such as possible replots and scoopage
its a lot harder to do it in one sitting if you've got the time... and so makes it more of a challenge imo, so I understand why asps are common.
heres a build for a get there only conda that should get you there in a fast time, like 20minutes per 1000 ly.

the big scoops cost a hell of a lot of credits though, so its definitely a rich in time and money game at the top.
ive got work incoming for the next 2 or 3 months, so its going to be hard for me to rerun to beat the new top time, even if I thought I could beat a lot, which i don't ;)
I still think the haulers best can be improved like others here, its a great cheap jumper.

Ha ha, excellent news bulletin!

And welcome to DoubleU, Conkay, Kiwi & Uberfish. Wow, looks like EZ is gonna need some more bumper stickers, we've totally underestimated the number of people crazy enough to attempt this!

Ship Cooking definitely speeds you up. :D

I'm pretty sure that no-one will manage a 10-11h run in a 32.xxLY ship. As you'll already be all too aware from your runs in shorter range ships, the "perfect route" only exists through the core, where stellar density is so high that there is always a star where you want one.

In the less dense areas between the spiral arms your fastest route becomes more crooked and also includes more sub-optimal jumps - my 36.54LY range Asp had several 20 something LY jumps travelling through these regions.

So I found that in the core each 972LY leg (my magic number) was a perfect 27 jumps; and within the arms I'd normally get 29-30 jumps per 1000LY. But between the arms I'd be looking at 36+ jumps per 1000LY. These problems will always be worse with shorter range ships, as less range means a less straight route. Conversely I'd have had a more perfect route using a 1.3 Asp with 37.5LY range or a 40+LY range Anaconda.

The big class 6 & 7 A fuel scoops on Asps and Anacondas do make a big difference though, coupled with a class 2A reactor it means that with a bit of practice you can perform "hot-refuels" without taking much damage. I accidentally left Galileo with 99% hull (heavy landing without shields) and still had 99% when I arrived at Sadge. All my modules were over 80% except the cargo hatch which was at 1%! I'd also only used a few AFMU units to clear a "distributor scrambled" warning.

I took a lot more module damage on my first run, so it is a case of practice makes perfect, you especially need to know how to treat each type of star differently as your temperature increases much faster when you activate your FSD close to a bright type B than a type M.

For anyone trying out "speed runs" over 1000LY before setting off, you really should see how hard you can safely push refuelling during these runs. You'll be able to repair any damage before setting off to Sadge.

Hi all,

I emailed EZ with my entry but thought I'd get in on the posting. Currently about 8000LY from Sag. Getting some route plotting slowdowns but so far, so good.

Nearly there KC, well done! Good luck in the core, hope you don't have too many problems.

CMDR Uberfish.
Good luck, you will need it, especially in a cobra.

Thanks, CMDR Raiko!

Mercifully, I discovered Radio Sidewinder mentioned in this thread.

I think I would go insane otherwise.

Had a nice surprise when I got home from work today....

And here is is on the side of my computer (didn't want to cover the window with the sticker so it had to go on it's side)....

My current run in the Adder has hit a small snag due to time contraints on my part (work etc), I'm currently about half way to the core but it's looking like I cannot put any more time in until the weekend :(

But I'll make it again :D

Ok im 13k off core atm. Ship is in perfect state, no one single module has lost any integrity atm. Is getting a little bit hotter than usual when im scooping but thats all.
