Tagging this thread for later reference :D

ElectricZ, I guess you can count this as an unofficial entry:

Have already done the Sagittarius A* run once in my Anaconda, but don't have a really useable log of the time/date I left. The album title has it as the 19th of Feb, and a picture taken on the way back shows 14th of March - so I guess that qualifies for an unofficial time of 21 days?

So...

Name: Reload
Cmdr Name: Reload
Ship: Anaconda
Ship Name: Big Stick
Unofficial entry time: 21 days
Unofficial departure point: Achenar

I will no doubt do another run (although probably not in the Annie), but need to clear my schedule for a weekend before I can even contemplate it :D

Oh, and bonus content: Video time!

Well for whatever it's worth, I've taken off and now at 3,000 LY from Sol, in flight for 2 hours 31 mins 51 sec.

Taking a break for the day, so the run continues tomorrow :p Yeah I know, my official time for BBRA* will be stretched into days but I'm keeping tabs on my flight time just for interest's sake.

And oops, forgot to say, here's the actual link to me being there:

I'm in!

i've just reset my save as I've found the glory that is the trade extension tool and I am going proper old school.

It'll a while then before I get equipped, but I'll be going for the budget option.

So Cmdr Ethelred Unread
ship type - hauler
ship name - The Wolverhampton Wanderer

Oh, very well, I'm in. :p

Love Your Collider was destroyed after faceplanting a security 'Conda in Leesti but its replacement is the Fhir a' Bhàta.
The FaB is another Fer-de-Lance and being fully kitted (according to the "Zion Ravescene Special Paranoia Doctrine of First Contact") should be able to trounce any Thargoid sightseers at the Core if it ever gets there.

I set off from Sol earlier and took roughly an hour to travel the 300 light years to Pratchett's Disc. This will be a slow yet stylish ride. :D

OK so the first real update of the Big Board of the race...

ua0vgnB.jpg

Got a few new pilots to introduce. CMDRs Cavenaugh and Unread, welcome aboard! We have our first Lakon-6 entry, as well as another Hauler. Moonshadow, looks like you've already got yourself some competition. Also welcome back a couple of Buckyball vets, including CMDR Reload, champion of Buckyball 5, and the Buckyball's only completionist, Peter "FoxTwo" Aldric, who has been a part of each and every race from the start. FoxTwo is the first competitor to chase after Anuranium, and whe completes his run, he'll have more Buckyballs under his belt than even yours truly - at least until I get out there and tie. Good luck, FoxTwo! See you at Sag A*!

Me, personally, I'm trying to figure out how to scrape up about 28 million credits to pick up a 6A fuel scoop. 28 million credits for an electromagnetic funnel! I could roll down my window and pluck hydrogen molecules by hand and it'd be faster than me earning 28 mil by Saturday. Say, any of you guys owe me money...?

Well, I've had this as my next major exploration milestone, and though this moves my timetable up a bit as I had been planning on waiting on a decked out Asp, why the heck not? D*** the torpedoes, I say!

"Darn" those torpedoes indeed! Just don't shoot them at me, please. By the way, there's a 28 million credit torpedo fee in the Buckyball. It's an obscure rule, but one that's vigorously enforced.

I'm not sure I've packed enough Lavian Brandy for this... :D

One question: EZ, given the rather... daunting... nature of this trip, will multiple runs per CMDR in different ships be allowed on the board? i.e. One run per CMDR per ship type.
I mostly ask because I'd love to challenge Anuranium at the top of the by-time board, but I'm a couple of (hundred million) credits short of being able to afford such a ship at the moment... And I'm not sure I want to spend the time, effort and brandy required to do it sooner if that time will just get wiped later on!

... and yes, of all the questions it would be me that asks this one. :D

Alot, you had a little obsessive compulsive thing going on the past couple of races and I was really thinking this one might break you. But if you really, seriously want to make the trip more than once, I will gladly record each and every one of your times. :D And on the day when you sit in the #1 slot for each and every type from Anaconda down to Sidewinder, Bucky will personally pay for your therapy. ;)

So officially, pilots, feel free to re-run the race, and if you do so in a different ship class, your time will be recorded.

By the way, Alot, you don't happen to owe me 28 million credits, do you?

Welp if nothing else you will be the first Cobra jock to make the run, and who knows, maybe the first Cobra out there period. Either way, until another one takes the challenge, the Improbability Drive will hold the top slot for Cobras. On that topic, do you have that 28 million credits I loaned you? You might not remember it but I assure you it happened...

Well shoot Jackie you snuck in just as I was posting. Couldn't say no to the bumper sticker, could ya? :D I already put the board up, but just for you, I can go back an include you for a very minor, one-time update fee of 28 million credits.

Wow, you got this ready really quickly. I had been planning to avoid exploration before Buckyball 8 to try and get better at SC and docking.

The Nomad is currently sat in the repair yard at Jameson Memorial Starport, because some idiot kept flying her into the walls of stations during Buckyball 7!

I'm currently flying a Viper, bought with the trade-in cash from The Nomad's battered A5 thrusters; the viper was used for one last ditch unsuccessful run at BB7 solo-open and now I'm bounty hunting in the empire. I'll be giving this a shot as soon as I've collected 28 million credits of bounties and grabbed one of those A6 scoops for myself. Hopefully there's two in stock, I wouldn't want to steal Bucky's (Seriously? The scoop will cost 3x as much as the rest of the ship!)

I'm planning to make the run in a couple of weeks time.

CMDR Raiko
Ship Type: Asp
Ship's Name: The Nomad.

Ya know, you don't REALLY need that A6 scoop... you could just go with, oh I dunno.. A4 scoop? D5? How about a cheap lil A2 one? It still scoops fine :p All you gotta do is just read the book while it does its thing. Save your 28 mill and use it for something else :D

Cool! So I can run this again in my Vulture when I get back.... in 3320 :p

Either way, until another one takes the challenge, the Improbability Drive will hold the top slot for Cobras. On that topic, do you have that 28 million credits I loaned you? You might not remember it but I assure you it happened...

I'm the only one in a Cobra so far in BBRA*, but there's plenty of video evidence out there that many other Cobras have made it to Sag A* (or Sgr A* for the pervs). However, comparatively there are more Asps out that way than Cobras though. And a couple of T6s.

Seriously I thought I could commit at least 4 to 5 hours per day of jumping, thus hopefully going around 5,000 to 6,000 LY per day... but you won't believe how mind-numbingly boring it is. I could only stand it for 3 legs before I gave up for the night, when I reached my 3,000 LY mark.... yeah you can easily make a mistake once boredom sets in.

So, to whoever completed / will attempt this in one sitting of 13 to 30 hours - I salute you.

You think Bucky's flying this race? He's not that stupid. :p Besides, he'd finish it in nine hours flat and ruin everybody's fun. Instead, we just have to cope with Anuranium and his snail's pace 13 hours... I did finally find a place with that A6 scoop though. Selling back some other A components I won't need brings me down to only needing about 10 mil now. I might be able to get that together before Saturday.

Not if I have any chance whatsoever of catching up to Anuranium. I need the fastest scoop I can get. The A7 scoop Anuranium has fills his tank completely in something like 25 seconds. An A6 takes 10-12 seconds longer, and a B6, 10-12 seconds longer than that. The B6 only costs 7 mil, which I can afford. But what I'm not sure I can afford is an extra 20-25 seconds per refueling, because I believe there will be just a couple stops along the way, and those half-minutes will add up over 26,000 Light Years. If I'm doing this, I wanna get a time that's gonna stick. I may not be able to beat the 'Conda, but I'm aiming for that top Asp slot.

We'll see how it goes... If I'm only cranking out 1,000 LY/Hr it's likely to turn into a multi-leg trip. :D

Cool! So I can run this again in my Vulture when I get back.... in 3320 :p

That's what I like about you, Fox. You're an optimist. ;)

Seriously I thought I could commit at least 4 to 5 hours per day of jumping, thus hopefully going around 5,000 to 6,000 LY per day... but you won't believe how mind-numbingly boring it is. I definitely think you won't be alone here. No doubt this is a hardcore challenge. I'm thinking not everybody's gonna make it. The important thing for everyone to remember is that this is for fun and nobody has to do it, other than me. I can't throw out a challenge and then not take it, can I? :D The only question is whether or not the fun of beating the challenge is worth the drudgery. If the answer's "no," its definitely better to find that out 5,000 light years in rather than 15,000 or 20,000. This is a grind to end all grinds, at least until some moron decides to race across the whole galaxy. Anuranium, you sit the hell back down... ;)

For me, I'm gonna concentrate on getting to see the galactic core, Sag A*, getting my name on a few systems on a leisurely jaunt back, and turning in a few million in cartographic data. I'm gonna alternate between sitting and standing, make sure I've got enough passive entertainment (music, videos), do quick calisthenics during jumps, maybe post my progress, chat with folks when I can, alternate between HOTAS and KB/Mouse, take breaks when necessary, and drink just the right amount of alcohol to stay in the fun zone. Gonna start 6-7 AM on Saturday and go as long as I can. Hopefully it'll be a rainy and crappy day outside... Beautiful sunshine will definitely make it harder.

Why the heck am I doing this again? Oh yeah. For the bumper sticker... :D

Well, sheez, ok, I said I was going to run this, thinking "nah, Bucky probably couldn't be bothered to actually organize this in any hurry, its a safe boast..."....And now look what's happened.

And as it turns out I've recently jumped back into my explorer cobra and come back from a little jaunt 2k out in the blackness after BB7.

And then Fox Two starts out in a cobra.

And then this:

Welp if nothing else you will be the first Cobra jock to make the run, and who knows, maybe the first Cobra out there period. Either way, until another one takes the challenge, the Improbability Drive will hold the top slot for Cobras.

Sigh, I'm in, I can't help it :D

CMDR: Tuna Mage
Ship Type: Cobra
Ship Name: Ophiophagus Hannah

Foxy, I'm commin for ya :D

Haha... Fortunately it's less of that, and more that the exploration trip started by me doing a run in the Asp will hopefully fund the exploration Anaconda :D

Not that I know of... But then, my recollection of my last visit to the Shotgun Shine is a little hazy...

PM sent.

Oh man, this is kerrrazy! I am so up for this - my only problem, how to explain to my wife and family that yes, I am going to sit at the computer for 12+hrs straight and no, they do not need to call the paramedics, but yes, if they could poke small, pre-chewed pieces of food into my mouth at regular intervals than that would be greatly appreciated.

My only other problem (anyone remember my stop motion BB6 video?) - where can I get a glass that can hold 12hrs worth of gin?

I will sign up later when I've sorted out these logistical problems.

Right, that's the gin problem sorted ...

When I woke up after the Buckyball 7 after party, the "?SYNTAX ERROR" was tumbling slowly in an uncharted system somewhat towards the Core. By my ships clock (and novelty coffee maker) I could see the date was... Today? And it was .... However many days it was since BBR7 finished. Eleventy?

Oh, I seem to be 7,500Ly from Lave... Well I'm sort of facing Sagittarius A* so I may as well unofficially enter. Luckily I have my dash cam from racing still mounted, plenty of gin (glass? The bottle's made of glass!) and my trusty copilot, who looks a little low on helium. Looks like I'll need to scoop a gas giant again.

Once I've found the memory dot for the dash cam I'll unofficially enter. Them I'm flying back to Sol. Maybe I'll buy an Anaconda with my exploration bonus, and do the dash - or go stark raving bonkers and buy a Sidewinder...

Ok hunkering down for the night.

I'm now approximately 7,000 LY from Sol, and maybe 1/4 way there. Travel time, 6 hours total. Mind-numbing hours mind you.

Oh that green icon is Cmdr Jackie Silver :D

Oh yes, postcard below:

At my current rate of progress, I don't see myself arriving any earlier than this Saturday, 26 April... that'd be 6 days on the official time :(

CMDR Moonshadow has still gotta raise some cash to kit out his ride. Once that's done he's planning a quick 1000-LY sprint to tune it up and see what kind of pace he can make (before i go so far as to spend a PTO day to try making the run in one sitting, i want to be sure i can actually make good enough time to make it feasible!)

He'll endeavor to get that much done this weekend.

I'm averaging 45 mins per 1,000 LY. Some stretches are longer (no clue why) but I've learnt that 50 jumps per 1,000 LY for me is the usual. If I'm very lucky I get 46 jumps but that has only happened to me once (so far).

What's your jump range? With my planned build I'm looking at something in the low-mid 30's

Long range trips in long range vessels is so passé...

I intend to make a showing, I only need to decide between (fully combat equipped, of course) Viper, Vulture, or FDL for my trip to Sagittarius A*.
