Screenshot of the week! That is brilliant. Shame we can't see the direction of travel (I assume about half of those, yourself included, are people heading back).
hi
9.5 hours and 12.7k ly to SagA.
I've speeded up a bit after learning what to do lol, but have some other stuff to do today so going to take a break, maybe continue later, though it doesn't look like I'll be finishing today.
Notes on ship -
Diamondback Scout
configured for range, no shields, no scanners, no weapons, intended as a one way trip plus/minus pics of being swallowed by a black hole or two. 28.41 reported on edshipyard is correct, can get further if drop fuel store capacity from 16 to 8 (29.58ly) 4 (30.19ly).
Scoop 3A gets 176 kg/s and easy to get and maintain that (90secs to fill).
Ship kicked from sc due to being close to sun more of a danger than overheating, (even after being booted, temp then goes high briefly, but quickly goes down to safe levels), it takes a lot to overheat it. But does happen if scooping and charging up hyperdrive (but can do both simultaneously for a bit). I'd say a forgiving ship.
I'll let you know if/when I get there, probably during the week.
Seems like a lot of others making the trip today, good luck to everyone.
John
PS, shame it doesn't look like it would be an official buckyA run
Typical, hoping for a quiet Sunday of "jump, jump, jump, jump, scoop" and so on when the missus says we have to go shopping, this'll put me back a bit.
P.S. I hope we don't pass a shoe shop, she'll be there for hours
You need to teach your better half about the joys of t'internet shopping. My wife spent £300 pounds on shoes yesterday from her iPad. It didn't interfere with my gameplay in the slightest.
Treat it as a trial run, a test if you wish. There is rumors about a certain famous explorer who is going to do it in a Diamondback, maybe you have done the legwork for giving him some serious competition
Was it only days or weeks, months, years …? - I don't know it anymore. It feels like an eternity, but I'm back here in Galileo, where the journey began.
It feels strange to be back in civilization. All these people, this noise, this odour in the air. I feel like a stranger - and yet at home. It's really crazy.
The way back from Sagittarius A* was not without some problems. 17,000 ly away from Sol the FSD had first failures (after just a total of 2,000 jumps, is this covered from the warranty?). 3,000 ly later, the glass of the cabin has been broken and I'm scared to death. I have hardly dare to move me anymore.
The FSD failures have continued up to the end, just tons of duct tape stuck it together.
But I've seen a lot: I have visited the Great Annihilator and found three additional earth-likes. Fortunately, I have encountered no Thargoids - just in my nightmares.
Here are some pictures that I made on my way back:
The Great Annihilator:
The most shocking moment of my life:
Some earth-likes:
Other nice pictures:
The most beautiful I've ever seen:
Almost home:
Careful! No mistakes now!
The eagle viper has landed:
The repair bill:
Finally at home (I think the paint has some scratches):
And the obligatory flight log:
I think it's time to take a shower, put on a pair of pants and go out there. Maybe I'm going for a jog in the habitat ring.
Good to see yet more brave Commanders taking on the challenge!
The Orcan o' Whoop-Asp meanwhile has successfully touched down back at Galileo, completing the full round course and will likely remain there until I have further need of her. She now rests right next to the similarly record-setting Sidewinder Undesided.
Incidentally, there was a new station attendant to greet me because apparently the old one threw up his hands and screamed "That's it, I've had it with this maniac!" and stormed off when he saw my Ship Registration Number pop up on the docking list. Wonder Well, anyway, looks like the drinks are on me at the Shotgun Shine tonight!
The Orcan o' Whoop-Asp back at Galileo. She's earned her rest.
Some stats on the journey:
Ship Cost: -54'688'851 Cr
Sadge Run Time: 23h 34m 51s
Repair Cost: -1'778'837 Cr
Exploration Profit: +30'064'042 Cr
System Permits earned: +6
Exploration Ranks: +1 (Ranger -> Pioneer (or Starblazer, as the Decal calls itself))
Total Loss: -26'403'646 Cr
Totally worth it: Yes
To pass the time on my solward journey, I've been looking over the stats on the various ships in terms of their abilities to get to Sadge in 1.3, Fuel Tanks and all - and then I decided to just write it all down. Seeing as I'm probably not the only one whom this might interest, here are a load of tables and numbers!
General assumption: 2A Power Plant, lightest modules, best available FSD and best available Fuel Scoop.
Values are Jump Range with Scanners (ADS + DSS installed) in light years, Jump Range without Scanners (No ADS + DSS, i.e. -3.3T Mass) in light years, Empty Refuel (Time to refuel from 0 fuel) in seconds, Jump Refuel (Time to refuel from 1 Maximum Range Jump) in seconds and Tank Size (Values only possible in 1.3 italicised) in Tons.

Well, that's just typical. "I know," I thought, "I'll get myself a sponsor, just like Kligg did! Should be easy!"
Found a suitable candidate, no worries. They weren't interested in the ship name though, they just wanted me to take a ton of their stuff out to the Sadge Defence Force, keep 'em supplied and all that.
Didn't take much off the jump range, I thought, why not...
Everything was going well; I'd had a few instances of fireworks in the cabin but nothing too major. About 20kLy down, all looking good.
Except then I got a bit warm, and a funny message popped up in the corner...
NOOOOO!!!
So, if anyone happens to be going through the Shrogea JQ-C C26-2796 system, beware: local hazards include a very hot star, and a lone canister of Kitten Brand Coffee travelling at a significant fraction of the speed of light.
They'll never sponsor me again after this...
... or will they?
Despite the loss of my beloved Kitten Brand Coffee, I pressed on (with a slightly better jump range)... and was greeted by Raiko, who'd been watching out for any odd-looking shrubs.
You need to teach your better half about the joys of t'internet shopping. My wife spent £300 pounds on shoes yesterday from her iPad. It didn't interfere with my gameplay in the slightest.
She's already well versed in the ways of this 'new fangled technology' (as she says) and can shop on t'internet with the best of them but I'm one of those people that is blessed (or is that cursed) with a missus that like to actually visit places and view her potental purchases in shop.
That aside, I've manage another couple of thou in light years today so I'm reasonably happy
I did it. I made it to the core, and stared into a black hole in triumph. This was, by far, the most stressful, tedious, tiring, infuriating, FUN thing I've ever done in a game. Well done.
My final time was 22 hours, 15 minutes and 56 seconds.
Have some pictures.

Made it!
Hooray! Was a nice little group hug, although sometimes a bit too tight - I make it to A* with 100% hull left, and get 2% knocked off from a group photo!
Then again, I can't really complain - after all, I did let Metta remove the other 98% on my behalf shortly afterwards

Aha! I wondered why you were having so much more trouble with heat damage than I did, but now I see... if I may suggest, should you do this again sometime... the slight jump range loss from an A rank powerplant is more than compensated for by the improved heat efficiency.

Not any time in the near future, I have to pick my way back without killing myself because I want to sell all the data I got. I will keep that in mind for afterwards, though

Great time there Sir!, I doth my hat to you. great to see the time go under 9 hrs, knew you could do it.
ill have to get my 1k sprint times down to 20 minutes to compete again... gulp.
