Just finished! 14 hours, 6 minutes and 44 seconds! PC crash and galmap errors really didn't help but, I did it!!!!

Well done, that's a pretty good time!

Buckyball 8? *drums fingers impatiently on wooden dashboard of new Python*

EZ's last post seemed to suggest it was likely to be around two weeks away. Which is good, as I still have over 21,000LY to get back and I do want to do some scanning on the way!

Got a little surprise when I got home after work this afternoon :) 2015-06-26 13.24.28.jpg

The recent update to tidy the GalMap has made a bit of difference to the navigation performance - e.g. I can now use the mouse again to select stars. They also seem to have made the 'snap to target' a bit more aggressive, which is great in the majority of cases but a couple of times I have searched for next destination and the map has suddenly flicked from the searched for star to one under the mouse cursor...even though I am only using keyboard controls. This becomes even worse if you are in the process of clicking on plot route - suddenly you are plotting a route to a star at a bad distance...

EDIT: and exit map still doesn't stop the plot, you have to force-quit or try to log-out to main menu

From the Active Community Goals thread:

I think this is how to make good credits in the Antal Community Goal.

* Start Antal. - Buy Land Enrichment Systems
* Go NLTT 57216 Buckey Ring. Sell Material & Land Enrichment System. Profit 1000cr per tonne
* Buy Animal Meat and Tea
* Super cruise to Cenker Hub Station (Same system). Drop Animal Meat & Tea. Profit 450cr per tonne
* Buy Indium and Silver.
* Return to Antal. Sell Indium and Silver. Profit 1200cr per tonne

Profit per trip approx 2700 per tonne + community goal pay out

And you can get allied with the local faction by doing donation missions at Antal

Please could Bucky try to include Buckey Ring Station (NLTT 57216) in a future Buckyball Run? :D

You don't need to force quit. This is what I did:

1) select a system near you first as your backup plan in case the plot goes sour.
2) Attempt the plot.
3) Wait.
4) If it goes wrong and your game has the FPS of a toaster, close the galmap and just hit the hyperspace button.
5) As soon as you jump, the plot will stop.

You can also stop the plot by plotting a system within one jump of your current system, but this assumes you're not lagged to hell. Good luck!

It occurs to me that in preparation for Buckyball Run 8, we ought to be thinking about getting a decent advert on Radio Sidewinder. Any suggestions?

First thought I had was whether we have any singers in the community who could record a new version of the Cannonball Run theme :)

A quiet retirement

After I got Shadow Lurk home, I outfitted her for what she was initially intended for: exploration. What I found was that she really wasn't ideal for that - which is one reason, I suspect, there aren't more Adders on the Bucky board. The Hauler does the job faster, better, and cheaper; the Diamondback Explorer give good performance at mid-range cost; the Asp provides the best performance at a slightly higher-end range, while the Anaconda... well. About the one thing the Adder is probably best at is a budget miner, and mining isn't something that ever interested me.

So... I sold the data from her exploration run - about 7 million - stripped her of any valuable equipment, bought an Explorer, and retired her. I didn't sell her - I couldn't do that - but I parked her at Hamilton Gateway. I got her home, she's there if I ever want an Adder for Bucky 8 or some other run, but other than that, she's retired.

She served well, got to see places few ships have seen and lived to tell the tale. She made the A* run in under 18 hours. Not too shabby.

Hmmm. Problem with this is, well... it's a Bucky run. Adverts don't really fit. It'd be like advertising a public rave and hoping the cops don't come. On the other hand... A public service announcement perhaps, warning pilots not to participate? And since we have a ready-made adversary thanks to EZ...

"At a political rally in Eotiensis today, Senator Denton Patreus spoke out harshly against 'reckless piloting' and 'foolish acts of bravado' from freelance pilots, citing the Buckyball Runs in particular as 'a clear sign of the rot that has infested the youth in today's society'. He vowed to stop the Buckyball Run 8, scheduled for July XX, committing both Imperial and hired freelance ships to stop this nuisance."

Good luck to Ojrac, Freedom4556 and Sarrdis. Looks like you guys have yourselves a race! Keep us posted, last one to Sag A buys the drinks.

Hmm...

You realise that a Galnet article like that would attract an awful lot more Patreus supporting pvp combat CMDRs than racers? :)

I enjoy watching CMDR Bangfish's pvp videos on youtube (Dangerous Bangfish), but I'm not sure that I fancy trying to evade him and his friends at Buckyball 8.

I'd still race though. :)

Good luck to everyone running this weekend. :)

Thanks! Not sure about the rest, but I made 4k LY last night. Singed a few systems trying to jump too soon after fuel scooping, but my poor ship's called Smokey for a reason. Looking forward to seeing some more variety as I get closer to the core today!

You'll definitely start to notice a lot more stars in the sky. If I remember rightly it becomes quite stunning around the 10kly mark.

Thanks and great tip Uberfish - I'll try that tonight as I continue to work out my magic plot band.

The latest updates to the GalMap seem to have stopped it from completely locking up for me, so whilst not great, it is getting closer to how it was in 1.2.

Good luck Ojrac, Freedom4556 and Sarrdis - fly safe CMDRs :)

Thanks! I think I'll be needing those GalMap tips myself pretty soon -- 10.6k LY left, and plotting long routes is starting to cause some lag.
