Bug: Elite Dangerous not handling multiple IP addresses on NIC

Due to setting up some new hardware, I had attached a second IP address to my NIC using the PowerShell command 'New-NetIPAddress'. I should note that I did not set up a default gateway for that subnet, as the device I was connecting to was local.

Subsequently, Elite Dangerous would not connect to the servers. All other programs were accessing the internet successfully. Upon viewing the network options in ED, I noticed that the IP address listed for the NIC was the second (new) IP address. As soon as I removed that new IP address, ED connected to the servers.

You need to manually set the correct adapter. This also is true for VPNs.

ED, by default, picks the first adapter in alphabetical order if none is specified or if the available adapters changed.

If multiple IP addresses are set, the numeric lowest one takes priority. Most games don't work well with multiple IP addresses in a peer to peer environment.

Not a bug, working as intended.

I tried to select the correct adapter. The problem was that the correct adapter had two IP addresses, and ED would only use one of them.

ED also isn't a P2P game. It's a client-server infrastructure. I also didn't have the same issue with any other games I was playing, notably No Man's Sky and Borderlands 3 (not really online, but it talked to the server fine)

As for the IP order, the correct IP started with 10.0, while the wrong one started with 192.168, which goes against your statement that the lowest one takes priority.

I think you will find it is peer to peer the game just connects you to an instance(in open) like a glorified tel operator that puts your call through to a conference call the host is usually the first in that instance

So when I'm playing "solo", what other peers am I connected to? P2P stability isn't necessary for play. Client-server is.

your right in solo its just you an the client if that's how you play, I was just mentioning a fact it is peer to peer which you said it was not
as you did not specify you were playing solo only.

A list where the user can select the address to used manually, or at least making use of the source address flag 'SkipAsSource = false' of the windows os would be fine. I play a lot of (online)games but never run into this problem before.
