Firstly on comparing the Python with the Type 7, sure while i know the Python is a much more capable and much more expensive ship than the Type 7, aside from the faction locked ships, it's the only ship before the 75-200 million credit ships that can carry a similar amount of cargo to the Type 7 and crucially the Python can land on medium landing pads, while the Type 7 needs a large pad.
Secondly, like basically all the other dedicated cargo ships in the game, i'm pretty disappointed with the Type 7 (at least on paper) and i've been half planning with skipping it and saving my money anyway.
I initially skipped over the Type 6 in favour of the Keelback, but was very unhappy with it, feeling (aside from messing round with its' fighter hanger) i'd do better or as well my Cobra mark iii.
(And i haven't used it since.)
While i then got a Type 6 and was reasonably happy with it (though not that much), once i had enough money to fully outfit an Asp Explorer, i've been using the Asp for hauling cargo (with a fair bit of bounty hunting with my cargo build as well) and haven't used my Type 6 since.
(I'm considering turning my Type 6 into a mining ship, while i already have an Adder set up for the role.)
On the Type 7, it's slow, poorly armed ship while its' only real selling point, hauling around 300 units of cargo is, as noted hurt a lot by its' need for a large landing pad.
Lastly while the Type 9 is sure cheaper than the Anaconda, Corvette and Cutter (with the last two being faction locked also), can only carry a bit more than the Anaconda, while being less versatile than it and can't carry as much as the Corvette and Cutter.
On to my particular current needs, i'm looking for a ship to do better in and contribute more to trading (but really only cargo hauling) CG missions.
First in my Type 6 and then my Asp Explorer, while sure i know both ships can haul 112 and 128 units "bare boned", i have to have the luxury of at least each ships' second highest class shield, a docking computer and discovery scanner in my max cargo build, which due to each ships differing modules, let's me carry 88 units of cargo and 92 once i lock into a delivery route and pull out my discovery scanner.
In the recent cargo CG's i've typically been making at most seven to nine complete deliveries, delivering between, at least 616 and just over 800 units, which before our patch corresponding to 2.4, when station supplies restocked quicker than they do now, which was always enough to make sure i finished in the top 75% reward tier, but it was never enough to get into the top 50%.
Since that big recent patch, it's gotten much easier to get into and stay in the top 75% reward tier and a single time since i've gotten pretty easily into the top 50%, while several other times, if i hadn't been sleeping too much, playing too many other games and doing too many other things in this game, i could almost certainly have gotten into the top 50% pretty easily too.
So overall then i've been pretty happy with the rewards i was getting for and the amount i was contributing in my Type 6 and Asp, until the most recent one, in which the lack of large landing pads and supposed "CG burnout" (though i don't know why this CG was the one straw which broke the camel's back...?!), most "whale" players in big ships didn't compete in it, while many regular players also didn't take part either.
However many players realised that the lack of large landing pads, made the Python the best ship to contribute in the CG, while us mere mortals in Type 6's and Asp's SHOULD have still been able to do plenty in it too.
But while normally 10,000 plus players contribute to trade CGs and even recently 8000 to 10,000 players took part, last time i checked this morning, only about 3,800 players had taken part, while many that did, clearly did f e c k* all, as the CG was midway between the second and third target tiers on Monday night and it barely moved by the time it finished today.
Normally, before the big patch, i'd to deliver around 600 units to get into the top 75% reward tier and deliver 700+ to make sure i stayed there and while such since the big patch, i got into the tier once with only 350 units delivered, i still normally had to deliver 450-500+ to get into the top 75%, but in this one, i got into the top 75% with only 176 units delivered and the top 50% with only 500 units delivered, while i went on to contribute the most i have yet with over 1000 units delivered, instead of the 15 million plus i should be getting for getting into the top 50%, i'll only be getting 1.3 million because the CG never passed its' level three target.
However, IF i and several hundred more had had access to Pythons, we MIGHT have made a difference... :_ .
Lastly on funds, i currently have (or will have, once i turn in some missions and collect my BIG CG reward) 40 million credits.
Plenty to buy and decently outfit a Type 7 (while i'm sure a fair bit short of the amount needed to max it out), though of course not enough to buy a Python and surely well below the amount needed to even decently outfit it, let alone max it out.
While i COULD sell some ships to raise some funds, partly due to nostalgia and their current builds, but mostly to be able to test any changes and hopefully buffs my ships get in the future, i don't like selling ships.
Lastly on builds, could anybody with access to both ships (and the time, interest and funds of course
) tell me how much it costs (approximately) to buy and fit each of them, with their best FSD drive, Powerplant, second highest in class but best in that class shield, as many shield boosters as they can fit, multicannons all round with a docking computer and discovery scanner and tell me exactly how much cargo each ship can carry in that build?
