Cambat face hugging

I love doing combat if that being in Haz Rez or CZ but i always seem to have this problem of everything hugging my face from little FGS/FDS to full out Anaconda's. I can understand for any medium or small ships this is ment to be how they are able to take on large ships but i dont understant why a anaconda would want to face hug me instead of keeping some space between its target.

I fly a Corvette and half the time it feels like they are trying to land on my front deck. As the corvettes weapons are placed in a okeyish locations main problem being that dam medium size location what makes there face hugging a pain as it makes that weapon pretty much useless since if you try to pull it into place to take a shot they simply keep themselves above it.

So my little question is this commen problem with fighting and if so whats the best way to keep them off my face?

I have boosted away taking different maneuver to make space between us just for them to come straight back to my face.....
and ofcoure i have done the reversing while they fly at you to keep the distance but dam that can be such a boring way to fight (Also the corvette really doesnt like going backwards)

Could learn to rollover and play dead?

Soon as you're on your back, relative to them your big gun is pointing up ;)

RAMMING SPEED MR SULU!

LoL my approach too! Get within 500m (so that they don't have time to evade), 4 pips to engines, full throttle at the ship!

A good glancing hit, right along the deck of a conda, will take down the shields in the first few seconds of engagement [haha]

Here at Hutton that manoeuvre is known as a 'Dirty Hober' after the cocktail.

I have a gimballed corrosive 3 MC there, if I pull the nose up a bit up, it still allows the two gimballed 4 MC's to maintain lock and the 3 to lock. You really can't see the 3 hitting real well but if you glance at the ammo counter, you can see the rounds being sent downrange.

This is also apparent on the opponent's hull and shields as they get worn down. Also salvoes of 4 rails helps as well.

Ramming works real well. They never learn, the worst face planters are the FED ships, Anacondas and Clippers.

The NPCs in this game are mostly of a one note programming variety. All they are really programmed to do is face you at any cost. Doesn't matter if it's to their detriment or not. Be they in a sidewinder or a cutter. They only want to point their noses at you. If the NPC finds it can't do this.. it just boosts/reverse thrust/turns until it can. That's it. That seems to be the magical AI formula now. Back before 2.1 or 2.2 (I can't remember.. been playing too long) there was at least a little variety to what each NPC did (not counting the spin of death). Now it's just one of two things. So you're not alone in noticing this. It's just how it is now.

I had an anaconda ram me over the weekend. Took me an age to get it's shields down. So it's sitting at 90+ percent and going down and it does a boost ram into my Cutter. Which was immediately followed by the Bounty Award :D It blew right on up behind me!

Then I had an Elite FDL start doing it's 'look at me' flying and stuff all over the HazRez. I Fire all Cutter Weapons into it and it's shields melt and what do I see? It trying to run away.. Well, needless to say, it's kids were hungry and fatherless after that :D

And don't get me started on the DBXs.. They ram and try to intimidate... A Cutter?? oh Really? :D :D

NPCs are odd creatures.

Im rank deadly, and If I take moderately valued cargo in to a CNB or HazRES, the pirates are all like "wooh, I wasn't doing anything!" And run off.

Then if I fly my SLF, the pirates scan my deadly crew member in mothership, and are like;

do I get it right that a FDS can circle your corvette and you can't fly in circles around it??

NPC crew fighter on the other hand i gave up on using in CZ. They simply go out and in 2-3min are dead again

The thing about the fighter is that the default behavior is "defend" and the way it ends up working is, some NPC shoots at you, then your fighter attacks him. Now the fighter has the NPC's aggro, and (unless you're paying attention) the fighter is all alone.

What I do that really helps to make them live a long time, is to bind a key to the "attack my target" order. So now, I'm attacking an NPC - the NPC is aggro on me - the fighter can zoom about a shoot him all day and the NPC will mostly just ignore it, depending on the range.

It gets a bit annoying though when NPCs keep ramming you in the face or keep hugging you, no sign of any tactics there.
Even Elite NPCs fly around you as if they have only two flight patterns, straight at ya, turn around, straight at ya, turn around, etc., etc.

Um...

Fly a smaller, faster and more agile ship that's designed to move more quickly?

Large vessels like the Corvette aren't supposed to maneuver like a Vulture. Just sayin.
