Can anyone tell me why we can't get a deer?

I only want two deer, there isn’t many ungulates I need left.

The deer being a muntjac species, and peere David’s deer. Otherwise I’m fairly content, and despite being from North America I don’t need the white tailed deer.

One of my dream habitat builds:
  1. Red panda
  2. Golden pheasant
  3. Reeves muntjac
Always wanted to make that.

Abundance of endemic Asian deer is amazing and I’m shocked that we still have literally none of them 🤯
Let’s demand more Asian deer species! Together we can make a change 👍🏽

Learn something new with this China Daily article about my favorite species of deer, the mighty Père David’s deer:

Who should tell you here? Frontier decided differently and that is the simple reason 😃. One possible reason is that various antelopes and goats are just more popular than the next deer species.
Personally I would find it cool If we should get one of the small Deer species (Muntjac and Pudu). And I could Imagine one of the NA Deer species (White Tailed Deer or Wapiti) or the Pere Davids Deer. But other Deer species would be a real surprise to me honestly.

My most wanted deer is a Reeves's muntjac, but I'd be fine with another little species with fangs.
Also pretty high on my deer wants is the wapiti, which could also cover Asia if they don't get into subspecies.

South America could use a pudu and/or a marsh deer.

They only ungulates I will accept at this point is deer anything else is just a duplicate of what we already have and I am tired of them dominating every single pack

At present, the six deer species, muntjac, Père David’s deer, Tufted deer, ELK, white-tailed deer, and Pudu deer, rank higher. Well... In fact, tropical Asia may have been ignored by us.

I am very happy to receive everyone's speeches. It seems that the objective fact that "we lack representative deer" has been realized by many people.

Oh deer, this is quite troublesome..

I'd like a North American elk (wapiti), pudu, and Père David's deer.

White-tailed deer after the other 3, because it's so common and basic that it'd be the NA equivalent of the red deer

For those Americans saying yes to elk but no to white-tailed deer, do the zoos nearest you keep elk but not white-tailed? In the southeast, white-tailed deer are far more common than elk. I'm only aware of two places in the region that even keep elk, and one is a solitary rescue that somehow wandered far, far from home. I also think the white-tailed would be much more visually distinct from our current lineup than the elk would be from the red deer in particular (in the past, I believe elk was considered a subspecies of red deer, in fact).

I guess I wouldn't hate the elk, but idk for me it's just got to be the white-tailed. It's appealing because it's so common and basic.

I kind of want both, but I'm more on the side of the elk. I've seen white-tailed more often in captivity, and I don't think they'd be a bad pick. They just aren't as exciting as the elk, and I would love to hear elk calling in my zoos. Elk can be found in the bigger budget zoos as well as the smaller ones. They are also more popular. The only downsides are they would need a lot of space in the game, and they aren't as widespread. While I can see a stronger resemblance to the red deer, elk have different coloration, are twice as big, and seem to hold their head a bit lower.
White tailed deer would be nice to fill out southern and eastern NA, but they don't have a magical call, they are irrelevant as a conservations species, and they rarely, if ever, show up in big-budget zoos, at least not that I've seen. Don't get me wrong, I still like the white-tailed, and it's probably the fourth deer I'd add. That's just why I'd choose the elk first. The white tailed would make a great filler animal to bolster all regions in NA except the polar tundra. It would also add a deer in SA, but a generic wapiti could also add a big deer for North Asia.

We have No dwarf antelopes for example. It is at the same level needed as a small Deer for example. A Common Asian antelope, the Blackbuck, one of the Most Common Zoo animals is also missing. There are also several goat species and in this case we even have less than deers within the Game at the moment. I mean at the end we all have to Accept what we get 😃. And then everybody can decide If he or she buys the Pack or Not.

various antelopes and goats are just more popular than the next deer species?I cannot agree. In my opinion, there are at most 4 more popular species in the current list of antelopes and goats. They are musk ox, markhor, blackbuck and eland.

I don't think any cervids are even essential, but a small species like a pudu or reeves muntjac would be really nice.

Not a fan of the idea of white-tailed deer. We don't keep them in NA that often, are they even kept in EU?
I would like White-tails OR Mules in the sense that I have seen them in the wild so they are special to me. I don't really care if they are in captivity...
They don’t seem to be common at all, but they are around in Europe. I strongly disagree with them being uncommon in NA, though. Maybe if you’re only looking at generalist AZA collections, but they’re practically a backbone of lower budget zoos and especially any collection with a strong focus on native species. I don’t think I’ve ever been to a native specialist facility that doesn’t have them, in fact
:) Agreed. I have never been to a native facility BUT I know they are also common in wildlife rehabilitation...
Plus, people keep them as pets. OR they feed them and tame them.

I get what you're saying except that we have less deer than antelopes.
