The funny part is that people laugh at that - until they find out that on the back it says 'Do Not Eat'.
yup - they actually had to add that in.
As a new player it was great finding out that the hours I spent mining were wasted because of the PWS bug.

I fixed my PWA by selling it about 1 month after it first came out. I found the whole bit about flying around scanning rocks for couple of decent ones, suicidal limpets, temperamental sub-surface extraction, getting the right amount of charge, etc., very tedious and frustrating. I remember giving up after one particular rock claimed 6+ limpets that were trying to get a bit that was glitched inside the 'roid I cracked. That was enough for me. Not too mention I am color-blind and had a hard time telling the difference between good 'roids and lame 'roids.
I totally agree - I understand it may be tricky to fix but doing "balancing" while fundamental part of mining is broken is kinda sillly. Any "data" fdev will gather from after balancing is gonna be garbage cause many deep core miners refuse to use broken PWA.

Seriously though, it also tickles me that none of you mining geniuses have figured out a workaround, like this one I came up after giving it 4 minutes thought...
Turn Flight Assist OFF, and pitch 180° (and counter to stop rotation)
Fire PWA while travelling backwards relative to the direction you are facing
Pitch 180° (and counter to stop rotation) to realign ship orientation with direction of travel
Turn Flight Assist ON and look for your next glowing bling boulder to blast

No disrespect or anything, but define fundamental? As a "game-braking and making it unplayable" fundamental or "tottally hindering progress" fundamental or "I just need gazilion credits for no particular reason" fundamental?

Edit: dont get me wrong, I like core mining, it's a fun way of making credits, for me 3rd actually right after 1.explo and 2. Pew-pew, but I don't loose much sleep over it. Plenty of money to be maid from other stuff.
Edit2: I would say fundamental part of mining are prospectors, without those you would not be able to do any mining effectively (remember, if you don't use them, your roid will yield close to nothing). Since those work, you always have good ol' blazers to make your gazilions. ✌

This in buckets - the way some folk talk about this thing you'd think the ships have started to not turn on rather than a non-mandatory item used for one specific thing.
If this is the definition of it working, then I can report as a PC player that mine works fine too
You know what, you are right, it should work, but it doesn't, so this suggestion is me trying to help y'all miners make lemonade when life threw lemons at you. And hopefully stem the tide of threads about this blerry PWA.
Best of it is, if they were any fracking good at their chosen mining playmode, they wouldn't need the PWA to find the deep core asteroids, because there is only 1 or is it 4 models for deepcore asteroids, I know I can recognise one of them, and I'm not a miner, I just tried it when it was a new thing to explode.
Yep, in a nutshel, fly to the model, check for feashers, if present, prospect, if not, move one. Each ring type only contains 1 particular model of roids that are potentially cores. Pwa just makes (well... used to make
) it easier.With sub surfaice, I found more when laser mining and just prospecting away than I ever did with ANALyzer
I came across quite few coments from PC players that actually reported the ANALyzer to work as normal... not sure if they where refering to the actual component though...
They should learn to work without the damned scanner that I'm fed up seeing threads like this one, and the others about... Were I a streamer, this would be click mana, but I'm not into that nonsense, so I'll post it here for free for y'all to see. There is one shape of asteroid with a deep core, its very distinct:
