Modes Can we get more players into Open Play?

Right, so you have PVP players in here, saying why Power Play doesnt work for its intended purpose, PVP.

And you and others are in here "oohhhhhh muh solo play", shooting down anything the PVP players say.

And that is why Power Play is nearly dead.

If Frontier had intended PowerPlay to require PvP then it would have been implemented in Open only.

They did not choose to do that, instead implementing it for all game modes and allowing it to offer consensual PvP between pledged players.

PvP remains consensual in PowerPlay - there's no requirement to engage in direct PvP to participate in PowerPlay - especially as it can be participated in from any of the three game modes.

Yes, and since PowerPlay is such a resounding success, being available in all three game modes, hopefully FDev will learn something about players who are looking for "Epic Multiplayer" want.

FDEV know what to do, they just cant because the backers will whail until they are blue in the face "MUH SOLO GAMEPLAY", when in reality they never touched PP to begin with.

Or maybe it didnt turn out they way they thought it would. Should correct the mistake. And make it Open only.

Sandro did just say last week that PowerPlay is a "consentual pvp system".

And it is an utter failure.

It is one of the bigger jokes in PVP circles.

Since they are apparently already aware that the majority of players don't get involved in PvP, it will indeed be interesting to see what they offer next in that regard.

In a game designed around optional direct PvP it would be somewhat surprising if Frontier were to gate content to a single game mode where direct PvP is enabled.

A hypothetical change, indeed - and a contentious one.

Yes, I am pretty sure if not for the backers PP would easily be open only, but FDEV have liability to some, which are holding them back to develop anything meaningful for a multiplayer content and direct PVP.

You said it multiple times, and I told you multiple times that PP failed because of this design, so maybe, just maybe the design needs to be changed?

.... or they are confident that their approach is the one that will make the game more appealing to more players - remembering that each time a new platform was added it shares the existing single shared galaxy state and does not start over with a diverging evolution.

With a game feature that is supposed be "a consentual pvp system", meant for "when you want to fight other human players".

But keep on keepin on....

It offers consensual direct PvP - there is no requirement engaqge in consensual direct PvP in relation to PowerPlay, however, as one can participate in PowerPlay without ever playing in a multi-player mode.

Why do not point out exactly where the core of this problem is? :) .. ofc it is about special equipment which is available after 4 weeks pledged to a power. Easy solution is keep this reward as is (those who want get this stuff in solo or PG still will be able) and remove all other PP effect from solo/private groups - only when is PP activity done in open, it will influence PP system - all PP mats and unclaimed merits will be removed when switch game modes.

Common, its not like SOLO players really care for PP, what, do they just sit privately and expand/fortify/undermine a system by themselves, what is the point, I dont see it happening. If PP will be removed from PG/solo nothing will change for them, they will scream about "MUH CONTENT" which they never touched to begin with.

We don't have the numbers - Frontier do though - so I expect that they'll be led by their in-game analytics.

.... and don't forget Private Groups - all the benefits of multi-player with (with careful membership control) none of the drawbacks.

Hey guys,
I noticed that the Elite playerbase is not very large compared to most "mainstream" games (people are missing out!) and it would be nice to get more people to play in open. Here is my question: Whay mode do you play in? What are your reasons for playing in that mode? If you decided to venture into open, What changes would you like to see to make your gametime more enjoyable?

I always play in open myself. Reason behind my decision? I enjoy human contact regardless if its friendly or hostile! It's what makes this game so enjoyable and challenging. Sure you can be in solo mode and have 1,000,000.000 credits and a A rated cutter, but what is the fun in that? NPC's are really no challenge. Even the Thargoids pose no "great" threat.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Regards

The Running Man

Penalise pointless/toxic activities. Promote more meaningful activities. Give piracy some depth. Offer/orchestrate interesting PvP for a cause/outcome at easy to find locations.

In short mindless ganking/destruction will get reduced. The illegal destruction of another player will actually mean something significant and become rarer. Offer some interesting PvP scenarios and gameplay for those interested in it.

When in doubt, I'd stick with David Braben's original vision:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=rOYhoFYIWmw#t=379

And this is what's actually shining throughout the whole (existing!) game. Who cares about differing musings...

If you don't like or understand it, could you possibly try to respect Mr. Braben's initial decision?

Well, listening to this explain a LOT of the complaints we can see on these forums. Some people bought a game with expectations that are totally opposed to what this game was designed to be.

There is no liability other than it was sold as content for everyone. It has nothing to do with backers
