Modes Can we get more players into Open Play?

lol, to be fair I struggle to explain anything to you - I'm not used to using such small words all of the time :p (j/k)

But here is a clue, it's in the name: "Player" (singular) Versus "Player" (also singular) - P v P.
It's not "Gank Squad" Versus "Single Player" - GS v SP.

So to all the actual PvP'ers out there, I'm sorry I've conflated GSvSP group with you. Please forgive me.

This can be said of all computer games, PVE and PvP games. It's the same thing over and over. Just like life is.

In this case it allows for other things to happen. Which is why some of us like it so much.
While I've spent a lot of my time in game time going A - B - A trading.
That time was also spent chatting with friends, having laugh, sharing stories, catching up and listening to personal problems my mates have.

When we are NPC bounty hunting or in a CZ, we don't spend as much time generally chatting. We are busy keeping our focus on the task at hand.

When I'm in PvP (the real kind) I'm not even on Discord.

See, you admit you know nothing about the game. :D

I can do your A-B-A trading with my eyes closed, in OPEN, I just cant inflict that much damage to my sanity doing this task, so I will leave this up to you.

Bad idea, the single BGS means less dev time and effort and no branching galnet confusing everyone all the time.

It's brilliant simple but effective and everyone and all modes are equal, for everyone except the minority who lie awake at night worrying about what invisible CMDR's are getting up to.

I said it's a want, in an ideal world. I never demanded Frontier do it. Indeed, I explicitly acknowledged that it won't happen, and I know that with current technology, such a move is not really feasible on a technical level.

Station blockade, you would all end up in sidewinders after a very short time. Instancing, yes, but unlike SOLO there is no guarantee you will never instance with the wrong people, there is always a risk, stop using it as an excuse, its obvious why you prefer to be hiding in SOLO/PG and screwing up someones BGS, instancing will not save you.

If you are so sure that you will never instance with anyone you dont want not fly in Open?

Still not sinking in is it?

I said a hundred or so CMDRs together. Coordinated. Your so called station blockade would cover probably only one single instance.

There may well be a few PvE CMDR destructions in that single instance, but also a few would more than likely still evade in that instance. However, the other instances created by the majority of the hundred or so BGS players would more than likely be PvP free.

And while the "defenders" are tied up doing PvP, who would be active in BGS play to counteract the activity of the majority of the hundred or so BGS players?

That's right, your "blockade" would be irrelevant, useless and utterly ineffective = totally lacking in "defense".

The group blockading their territory would lose that territory. BGS Basics.

Why is it that I have to explain this in such fine detail? Anyway, go ahead and ignore this fundamental fact in your next response, as per normal.

And as per normal you mention "hiding" in Solo/PG. There disappears your credibility. Again.

My evidence for saying that? I was in Open all last week. I got instanced with "the wrong type" as you described. Got targeted. Escaped. Tedious. Why Tedious? Because I got targeted flying *out* of George Lucas Station. I had already delivered my rare goods. So in fact I don't feel any need to "hide". Very much prefer to just avoid the tedious. Besides. It would take hundreds and hundreds of engagements for me to be back in a Cobra. (My backer privileges.) Many, many more than would be required to succeed in the BGS aim. Could easily achieve all that in Open. No drama. I'd just have to be prepared to accept tedious time wasters.

Is this how you intend to "attract" players like me into Open?

Or is it the intended insults about "hiding" that you think might do the trick? (I say "intended" insults, because even though they are written as insults they aren't felt to be insulting to players like me. I find them ironic.)

Any comeback on the hundred or so CMDRs and the instancing system for the BGS activity?

Cheerz

*Lecture Mode*

Observe, students, the so-called "PvPer" in its native environment.

Unable to compete with actual PvPers, it seeks easier prey within the PvE community. Upon finding itself deprived of its customary prey thanks to Frontier's brilliant Tri-Mode system (patent pending), and completely lacking in any of the social graces or a sense of fair play that most actual PvPers possess, it is reduced to throwing... stuff at people, unable to understand why very few people are able to tolerate its so-called "Content."

Thx for letting me know. Actually there is no combat at all in PVE, well, up to 2.4 where we finally have challanging npcs.

So you say its not about combat but you claim you are relatively good at PvE? Who would have thought? Maybe algomatic is elite in something it isn't combat rank after all...

Yes I am elite in exploration, and dangerous in combat. I am an explorer and you didn't even know.

So at this point I just wish you PvP enthusiasts would come straight and tell the truth. Is the objective "territory control" (which is purely a PvE BGS endeavour), or is the objective "fish-in-a-barrel PvP gank-shoot".

Because it cannot be both.

To be fair to actual PvP enthusiasts, I think most of these types of threads are coming from the so-called "PvP" community. Actual PvP enthusiasts are only interested in fighting other PvP enthusiasts, not killing PvE players.

Moreover, if we reference to the comment that was made about "tsunamis" of PP players, the context is that it just would not matter if the "tsunami" was active in Open or PG/Solo. Simply as a factor of there being "tsunami" which I'm taking to mean lots and lots and lots of players. See above for the demonstrable evidence.

So are you really just wanting soft targets, or are you wanting territory control. You should nail your colours to one of those masts once and for all.

Yours Aye

They can't do that, because if they did, their agenda would be even more transparent that it already is.

Which is really saying something.

This here is one of the fundamental problems with these types of proposal: the PvPers don't want to work the BGS. They want traders and others to do that legwork for them. They want both sheep and prey.

As primarily a Trader turned Explorer, exactly where's the profit in it for me? It sounds more like a protection racket than some jolly "let's all play together!" galaxy.

Aye, I've started using GSvSP because I feel guilty over lumping Gank Squad v Single Player into the same group as Player v Player.

All PvP'ers I've ever met want fair fights with willing partners. GSvSP folks only want targets but try to frame their argument that it's better for the game.
So from here on in, I wont use PvP when we should use GSvSP.

Yay! I found some rep under the cushions in Emerald Dawn's (my sightseeing ship) first class passenger lounge.

I'll have to start using that. GSvSP... or GSP (gasp!) for short. Named after the (completely ironic) sound one makes when you discover that yet another so-called "PvPer" has expressed a desire to target PvE traders, and not a fully armed PvP metaship.

GSP is faster to type, plus still reads "Gank Single Player" (or "Players"?). So GSP still works :)
Plus I suppose it covers those that don't fly in Gank Squads, but just use FDLs Vs Sidewinders / Type 6s.

GSP does seem to be a better fit :)

That's a lot better than my approach which was expecting people to spot and understand the layers of sarcasm there are between PVP'er and "PVP'er".

Congratulations on the birth of your meme.

So true.

I think it's easy to forget that ED isn't a true MMO. It's multiplayer, sure, but it's not really a massive multiplayer. You're limited to a small group of players in each instance, and it's rather random where you end up being (or rather it's probably handled by latency and other factors), so in the end, any argument for multiplayer features have to account for the chance of not being in the "right group" (instance) of players. So if PP was locked into Open and only for PvP, there wouldn't be much happening in PP at all. All would depend on pure chance of getting into the right instance at the right time, and right place as well.

And it reads like a 3-letter acronym just like BGS or PVP.
