Canids I'd Welcome to the Game

It pains me to say this, but I completely understand if people are sick of canids. I'm not because they are cool (my fave pet is dog!)
IF Frontier adds more the species I'd love to see them consider first:

Bat-eared Fox

They are social but can live alone just fine. Would add to African Safari animals (right now we only have the Wild Dog). They are somewhat of a basal canid. Related to foxes yes, but they branched off of that line early. Their markings are a bit raccoon-like and they eat insects.

Tanuki

I believe they live in family groups like the fox above. Also like the fox, they have raccoon markings (hence their name Racoon Dog) and they are genetically similar in that they are fox relatives but branched into their own thing. Although we have Asian Canids I think they would be valuable to add for Japan. Very cool looking animal!

Bush Dog

What Bat-eared foxes and Tanukis are to foxes; the Bush Dog is to the Maned Wolf. Albeit in the opposite way. They look cute but they are pack hunters. They look almost like a cross between wild dogs (African AND dhole) and weaseltypes.

Black-backed Jackal

Jackals are not in game yet. I think the black-backed species is pretty. (I'd be cool with any jackal; originally I wanted the Golden) The reason I want jackals over coyotes is simply because the Wild Dog is the only African canid we have found south of the desert! They are like coyotes in their chilling songs and they have a ton of culture around them!

Yeah pretty much all the canids i'll be fine with as well. I think they are all distinctive enough to grant a place in DLCs without feeling like just clones, like a coyote or another wolf would. Golden jackals and tibetan foxes are also very particular but i have no special interest in them and these four take priority for me.

What about the Coyote?
After a more unique canid! I'd love the game to have a coyote. I just don't want a third North American canine that could be considered a small wolf relative. Even the jackal is kind of a small wolf relative. The reason I say jackal instead for now, is because there are already at least 2 canids from the Coyote's range (Timber Wolf and Red Fox) whereas there is only the African Wild Dog for the deeper parts of Africa.

Far from essential, but my pick is Golden Jackal. Local bias. It's so small it feuds with Crows, love it!

Golden Jackal would also be about as cool as Black-backed!
Two more canids

Red Wolf (CR)

Ethiopian Wolf (EN)

I agree with you. They're very common where I live.
Coyotes and (more) wolves welcome as long as they add a more unique canid first. The game doesn't have jackals yet and coyotes are from already well-represented North America. The Red Wolf is especially beautiful!

For me, the only canids I would want Planet Zoo to have would be these:
  1. Black-backed jackal
  2. Japanese raccoon dog aka Tanuki
That's bring the number of canids in-game to 11. That's a good number. We'd also add another canid to the deeper parts of Africa. The game would have a jackal. Tanukis are unique in their appearance; they'd bring enough to the game imo, to fully represent the dog family. They'd also add to the Far East representation! So, I like your idea! :)

My choices would be:
1. Bush Dog
2. Bat-Eared Fox

Afterwards I would be satisfied with Dog Like species. Something like a Tanuki or a Jackal would surely be okay for me but the other two are more important to myself as I have already seen them IRL Zoos.
Bat-eared Fox is my most wanted animal of all time! I've seen them irl zoos as well! My siblings and I made enrichment for our local zoos' foxes :) Bush Dog I've never seen but they'd add alot in game.

For me, if I chose only two I'd choose
  • Bat-eared Fox
  • Tanuki

If it were up to me, I’d say let’s get a canid in every dlc as they are my favorites.
I think at this point, people really want the tanuki even if they are for or against canids. I have been rooting for the Golden Jackal as its range gives europe, Middle East and India some attention and that we currently don’t have any jackals in game.
Red wolves would be welcome due to their status and their unique color, but I don’t think many PZ players would like another wolf. Ethiopian wolves are cool but they are not in any zoos.
I could see the bush dog or another fox joint a dlc as an unexpected addition.
I would support coyotes yet I don’t think the community would like them as they would regard them as just another canid.
