Can't a miner have a little peace ?

Probably. So fit a couple lasers to drop their shields then pop them with a missile.

Are missiles really that reliable?

Or if we ever get an upgrade to the cargo scoop to make mining more feasible for big ships, what about a mining Fed dropship with turrets? Just keep mining with your mining laser while collecting auto bounties from auto turrets

Weird, I was just about to post the opposite. Since 1.05 I have been in my Super Secret mining place in an Anarchy - Pristine planetary rings for several very long sessions through out the day yesterday and not one single NPC. I was there a lot, cramming as its my last weekend before having to go back to work. I mine in an Asp and can kill all but the Pythons without too much trouble. I was annoyed as I usually make an extra 30% on top of my mining profit from the bounties. Now I know why, they are all where you are.

I had to give up mining until they fix it.

Even though I was well away from the nearest RES I was being attacked all the time. I would boost away (L6 no weapons) about 10 times then start mining again when they would appear on the radar once more and I would get scanned.

I think they have also messed with the percentages of good rocks and the metal amounts. I was in a pristine metallic ring and it was crap.

Its a bit off topic, but yesterday I had to sample about 15 roids before I found any metal over 10 percent, but then I started hitting the mother load and ended up returning home with my biggest haul ever. I actually liked it... was worried at first and then Bam, platinum, Gold, palladium, then a period of nothing again. To me this is more like what prospecting should be like.

If everything is just averaged out. Its mundane. If I can go out there and have good days and bad days, its more fun (as long as the good outnumber the bad)

If you are mining in an anarchy system, there should be hostiles popping in all the time. It is called "anarchy" for a reason, after all. If you want peaceful mining, then some high population system with high security should do the trick (although why would you want to bore yourself like that, I cannot say).

OP, equip your Asp with a Kill Warrant Scanner and some gimballed weapons and you'll be able to take out most NPCs up to a Federal Dropship without needing l33t combat skills. If you make sure you scan before killing your attackers you'll make some nice pocket money from bounties. If you are in or very near a system with an outpost black market you can also pick up any cargo they spam before dying and make money that way as well.

There are some rings/belts that are quiet, usually because they have regular system authority patrols, or you can look for a generally quiet system as BillD seems to have found. Anywhere else, to misquote Dougray Scott, is just a crudshoot. :D

I used to be able to mine in peace. Now it's like a freaking battleground even though i stay away from RES'.

I actually had to upgrade from my Type6 to an ASP so i could fight back as my mate ain't up for protecting me till "Wings" arrive.

But wth is happening, i can't mine a rock without getting "ship scan detected" and "What are you hauling ?"

While it's cool with the occasional combat, this is far too much and hopefully a bug....
I'll go with you and cover, hate those xxxxx interrupting all the time.

I agree entirely, however after nearly an hour with not one fragment scooped and three pirate attacks, it was time to head home.
Mining is challenging enough, it doesn't need to be made any harder!

My advice to fellow miner's don't mine at 'extraction sites' mine instead in metal rich planetary ring belts - just close in on a nice thick looking planetary ring and drop to min SC and you will be dropped out. Therefore, you are millions of miles from any extraction site... :D

When you drop out you will get at least one random encounter...most of the time it will be system authority vessels or other miners...some times pirates but if your cargo is empty they will generally leave you alone.

This is quiet productive mining.

It does seem odd that you drop out at a belt in the middle of nowhere and before you know it all hell is breaking loose. You end up earning much more in bounties than mining.

i think the NPC pirate appearances need to be toned down a bit too.

Oh really? Well just kitted out a ship for mining - so will report back if its got more intense with encounters...

I've seen this too. No NPC's around in super cruise, drop into the middle of a ring at some random place, suddenly NPC's spawn around me.

I've also logged out in a ring, and logged in later and had NPC's suddenly drop in and start mining around me.

PS: I'd file a bug report but I still have tickets from before Christmas that haven't been answered so I don't even bother anymore.
