I don't know what you are trying to say, I personally love this trope, it's not about the 'aliens', it's about the inevitable clash.

Watching as a safe observer is not the same thing as being there, suffering the consequences.
Youth always glorifies change using trial by fire. Big sound, lots of things flying around. Cool.
Older people know the horrors and the stupidity of it all. Constant pain, insanity by PTSD. Everyone you knew is dead. Alone and dying of hunger.
It is fun to destroy other kids sand castles. The tears are salty but everyone survives.
The struggle and the clash will produce a stronger and less weak minded population, but that is not guaranteed.
When battles are fought with fists, biting, kicking and words, most people will survive and perhaps get stronger by the incident.
When everyone carries a nuclear weapon as a handgun, the end is inevitably the demise and agony of everyone. Without any real benefits. ( Except the lone winner, who gets to own the entire ruined world alone and without any further contest (Aahh, peace at last!)... until that person dies... alone.... insane and in agony.)
Trial by Fire.... with common sense?
Maybe it is better to keep it in the simulation. That way we can experience the clash, get improved by the trial, but still nobody suffers more than loss of dignity and honor.
