Ships Can't get engineered past level 4 - tod McQuinn

Hi all,

I have 3 multi cannons that I'm trying to upgrade to level 5. I've gone through each level with each cannon up to level 4 (and each has an experimental effect on as well).

But now when I dock up to McQuinn's base and try to upgrade to level 5 I'm getting this error/warning:
"TO CRAFT HIGHER GRADE BLUEPRINTS YOU NEED ENOUGH ENGINEER REPUTATION, AND TO HAVE COMPLETED ALL LOWER GRADE BLUEPRINTS OF THE SAME TYPE"

I'm not sure what it is I'm supposed to do, I don't have any other cannons at lower levels and all of the cannons I have on the ship are at the same level with each level having been completed.

Any ideas?

What grade have you unlocked with Mr Blaster? If you have not unlocked G5 (or G4) then buy other stuff and upgrade that from G1 until the engineer is G5 - some engineers have things in Outfitting at their base, not sure if Tod does. All in the Engineer Help (in-game).

I've completely done grade 4 cannons, - I'll have a look at any else I can buy - but I think he just does stuff I don't want or need.

Doesn't matter - if you just want to increase your grade with him just fit anything and pick the upgrades you have mats for. Your goal is to unlock him at G5. Though if you have upgraded 4 multicannons to G4 he should usually be at G5, unless you started the engineering elsewhere, in which case they may be at too high a grade for the unlock level you have. Top left of the engineering screen shows you the unlocked level of the engineer.

Or been doing remote engineering which gives no XP for that engineer.

Something doesn't add up here. There are only three multi-cannon engineers correct?

The Blaster G5
Marsha Hicks G4
Zacariah Nemo G3

The only way to have G4 MCs, without achieving G5 access at the Blaster, would be to have flown to Tir, 22,000 light years away, and have them done by Marsha Hicks.

So unless that's true, then the only other way to get them at G4 is to have The Blaster do them. Doing three G4 MCs would easily get you grade 5 access.

I suggest picking up one of the other weapons he modifies (an MC, Rail Gun or Frag Cannon), preferably one that can be transferred to another vessel and start upgrading that weapon. Once you get a second weapon type or even a third up to G4 then G5 should unlock. You build reputation with Engineers by modifying modules with them. Sometimes they want you to modify different modules. o7

No, remote engineering does not increase engineer rep.
