Can't make DK2 work in extended mode

[SOLVED]Can't make DK2 work in extended mode

I managed to make it work !!!

In my case, it was a teamviewer driver getting installed as 3d screen instead of oculus as generic plug and play screen in device manager.
This post led me to that : http://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/2cu0qq/how_i_got_my_dk2_working_with_positional_tracking/ Step 11
Thing is, i already thought about teamviewer as i uninstalled it before coming here posting my issue. But it has not been enough, that driver stayed.

Thx to cdettmar, Adam Lusardi, Wolfox, el_labero and starjim for helping me narrowing it down.

Hi, i just bought the game, i didn't play the beta

i know there has been several threads about "how to make it work" and i read them all... no luck

My setup :
I7-4770K
16Go RAM
GTX 770 (344.75 driver)
Warthog Hotas
2 x Samsung 27" (DVI) and the DK2 (HDMI/75Hz)

The DK2 works with every other demo as intended, some in direct mode, others in extended.

I can get the 3D setting "oculus headphones/speakers" only when i use the direct mode, but i can't decently play because it's all blurry when i move the head and makes me sick.
So i try to make it work in extended mode.

What i tried :
unplug others screens
runtime 0.4.3 and 0.4.4
DK2 as primary, 2d and 3d, rotated every side
fresh E;D install
multiple reboots, oculus service restarts

Whatever i try, no oculus option in 3D settings when in extended mode, only anaglyph and side by side...
I must be missing something terribly basic and simple, and i just need someone to point the finger on it...

Thx a lot for reading me

i had the same Problem, switching the Ports of the Monitors with help from some Adapters, after hat everything works.

In the "Rift Display Mode" (in the taskbar) are you set to "Extended to the HMD"?

Yes, as stated in OP, tried both.
when in direct mode, it works but the image gets blurry when i move the head. And in "extended to the HMD" mode i don't get the "oculus rift speakers/headphones" option in 3D settings.

i had the same Problem, switching the Ports of the Monitors with help from some Adapters, after hat everything works.

Already tried, switching one of my screen (DVI) with the HDMI/DVI adapter provided with the rift, still no luck...
thx for the tip though, i might try again with that angle of approach, with some reboots/restart launcher

Have you set the appropriate monitor in ED graphics setting? It took me a while to figure that I had to set the monitor to secondary for my setup.

yes i did, i even tried to apply settings first and then in the oculus try to see if the 3D oculus setting appear but nope :(

What does your DisplaySettings file look like, below is mine.

-<DisplayConfig>

<ScreenWidth>1920</ScreenWidth>

<ScreenHeight>1080</ScreenHeight>

<VSync>true</VSync>

<FullScreen>1</FullScreen>

<PresentInterval>1</PresentInterval>

<Adapter>0</Adapter>

<Monitor>1</Monitor>

<DX11_RefreshRateNumerator>75</DX11_RefreshRateNumerator>

<DX11_RefreshRateDenominator>1</DX11_RefreshRateDenominator>

<LimitFrameRate>false</LimitFrameRate>

<MaxFramesPerSecond>30</MaxFramesPerSecond>

</DisplayConfig>

there you go :

Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?><DisplayConfig>
	<ScreenWidth>1920</ScreenWidth>
	<ScreenHeight>1080</ScreenHeight>
	<VSync>false</VSync>
	<FullScreen>1</FullScreen>
	<PresentInterval>1</PresentInterval>
	<Adapter>0</Adapter>
	<Monitor>2</Monitor>
	<DX11_RefreshRateNumerator>74999</DX11_RefreshRateNumerator>
	<DX11_RefreshRateDenominator>1000</DX11_RefreshRateDenominator>
	<LimitFrameRate>false</LimitFrameRate>
	<MaxFramesPerSecond>30</MaxFramesPerSecond>
</DisplayConfig>

Try following:
- reset ED to normal 2d mode (primary monitor)
- install SDK 0.4.4 (uninstall 0.4.3 before)
- set profile in Oculis configuration utility
- set rift display mode to "extended"
- set your DK2 as secondary monitor
- set rotation of secondary to landscape
- start ED
- set monitor to "secondary" and set the proper resolution fro DK2. Rith after that the 3d to "Oculus...". If you do not see this you have problems with your SDK installation. Try different USB ports for camera and DK2 (USB3 ports make often problems).

Thought that might just be the GPU differences in passing data?

Hmmm... I had a look at my settings, the same strange numbers. So, it cannot be this.

<DisplayConfig>
<ScreenWidth>1920</ScreenWidth>
<ScreenHeight>1080</ScreenHeight>
<VSync>true</VSync>
<FullScreen>1</FullScreen>
<PresentInterval>1</PresentInterval>
<Adapter>0</Adapter>
<Monitor>1</Monitor>
<DX11_RefreshRateNumerator>74999</DX11_RefreshRateNumerator><DX11_RefreshRateDenominator>1000</DX11_RefreshRateDenominator><LimitFrameRate>false</LimitFrameRate><MaxFramesPerSecond>30</MaxFramesPerSecond>
</DisplayConfig>

thx for your patience

i did all those steps.

- reset ED to normal 2d mode (primary monitor) -check
- install SDK 0.4.4 (uninstall 0.4.3 before) - was already 0.4.4, but i just properly reinstalled to check this (with reboot, etc..)
- set profile in Oculis configuration utility - check
- set rift display mode to "extended" - check
- set your DK2 as secondary monitor - check (have to unplug one of my 2 screens, or rift would be 3d)
- set rotation of secondary to landscape - if i setup to landscape and not reverse landscape, i got everything upside down in my rift, but check anyway :)
- start ED - check
- set monitor to "secondary" and set the proper resolution fro DK2. Rith after that the 3d to "Oculus...". If you do not see this you have problems with your SDK installation. Try different USB ports for camera and DK2 (USB3 ports make often problems). - still no oculus in 3D settings, i already tried with other usb port and made sure i don't use usb3 (read that in another thread). I'm not sure i got trouble with the runtime, because as said in OP, every other demo works perfectly, and Oculus option in 3D settings appear when in direct mode... weird...

Weird indeed. Seems like ED does not recognize your DK2...
Firmware checked = 2.12 ?
If you have Nvidia card - which drivers ?

Try direct mode also.

In the Nvidia control panel did you activate the second screen?
In the Nvidia control panel Did you go in the rift setting and rotaited it 90°?
Already that you are there set also Vsync off.

DON'T ENABLE 3D STUFF ON THE NVIDIA PANEL!!!

yes
yes 344.75
as stated, it works in direct mode, but it s barely playable, when i move the head it gets all doubled (tearing/remanence) and makes me sick

Yes weird, just been looking at my other ED folders to see if there is another setting to 'latch' the Rift so ED recognises it. No joy.
Thx for your help though ;)

All done - no result, thx for trying

The rift in extended mode is detected just as a screen, when i change from primary or from secondary to tertiary, i can see that the refresh rate can be changed from 60 to 75
If i misoriented the rift, the resolution is 1080*1920 instead of 1920*1080
So it is just detected as a screen in extended, but not as a rift :(

Question :
i didnt notice that before, but when in the oculus configuration utility, when you're in extended, is your rift detected or is it written "no device attached"?

If you get "no device attached" then presumably you cannot run the demo scene when you have the rift in extended mode?
