tried this for about 30 times and in different modes, no luck. I wish that frontier would let us know if and how it is possible, what the trigger is and if it is for every one to see this event. I do find it strange that people who stream seem to have no trouble in triggering these events. I dont mind a bit of RNG but aver 30 attempts it is a bit much.

Yeah, when I get on tonight, I'm packing it in. I just hope that future content is a little more "guaranteed".
I have two theories for this elusive Thargoid issue..
1. Thargoids only appear to commanders who have unlocked Palin (not very sure about that..).
2. The Thargoid events are only visible to those commanders who have the highest graphic quality setting (This is based on a mere observation, since I noticed that not a single stray pixel left nor low quality Thargoid ship on videos and photos, and I hope that I'm mistaking..).
No matter how much I have jumped and danced over the Pleiads (even in the Beta), I saw no ship.. so.. something must be..[???]

Well, I have Palin unlocked and am running everything in max ultra, no barnacle thargoid. When I got hyperdicted last year I was running medium settings and no Palin.

To be honest, it's really cool when it happens, especially when the SRV dies just when you reach the main barnacle and the Flower is right above you and the SRV starts lifting up. YouTube just doesn't do it any justice.
I had my headphones up full blast and I needed a new pair of underpants.
i'm sure of that, even more so in vr. and i've had a lot of "wow!" moments in the game, but the lengths some go to have this particular experience seems just way too much for me. if there was some persistent environment where you could figure out where these things forage (easy, on barnacles) and the proper timing, then go there and just conceal and wait to catch the moment they come, just like going to watch unicorns, that would be cool. but this carrot and stick game based on pseudo random luck ... dunno, couldn't be bothered. seriously, frontier.
it's more a dismissal of the storytelling framework than a critique of you guys. you guys are just nuts, i can understand that and it's ok!

Quite right. When new "content" comes out I'll just refuse to pay for it and watch other CMDRs experience it on youtube instead.

It's just totally random mate.
Spent a night trying to trigger the event. Even following OP advice.
Logged back the day after and got the encounter seconds after deploying the SRV.
As for the graphics setting theory I think it doesn't matter, I play in VR and my settings are not maxed out

One that worked for me is in Pleiades:
System: Pleiades Sector OI-T C3-7, planet A 6 -42.77 / -21.7
Welp i can safely say 17+ hours of leaving your srv and ship beside these barnys does not work, i set them in there at Pleiades sector oi-t c3-7 planet a6 at the doubles and left obs on record while i went to work etc. At not one part of the video did the event trigger.
This is somewhat tbh and before someone says i am a very sad person for doing this i literly just wanted to capture it myself and wasnt using the computer during all that time anyways. :-(

Just to reiterate, the event seems to be 100% random, with no amount of player interaction making the slightest difference in triggering a visit. I have had 2. One the moment I logged into Mobius (I ended up in my own instance, alone with the flowership...), another a week or so later while with a large group of people in Mobius, same barnacle, while they were attempting to recreate Stonehenge... when the ship appeared, they all toppled over. Was quite amusing Been waiting there for at least 3 hours, and that was just me - others were there before I got there.

Yep, was there with a friend last night mucking around for over an hour, and no flower show [blah] but thanks for confirming you saw the show in Mobius and not just Open Play.
Another full day wasted, me and 10+ others over the course of 5-6 hours resetting instances over and over and still nothing. At this stage i call it broken or its choosing for a reason we need to know @Michael Brookes
As has been stated in this thread, waiting around does nothing for you. You have to leave and re-enter the "settlement area" around the barnacles and drive up amongst them. Each time you do this, there is a small chance of triggering it.
Best thing to do is get a group of people together all doing this at once. Void, me, and several others used this method and got it to happen 4-5 times in a single evening (albeit always in a new instance).
