Carrier Layouts are currently not worth the money. Treat them like ship kits and allow individual sections to be swapped around.

Ship kits are either 12 or 16 pieces, allowing for a large number of combinations per kit. Carrier layouts are 1 piece for a price between a 12 or 16 piece kit. I get they're big, but size does not equate to value on a fictional product, especially when that product affords no function other than looks. That being said, I'm impressed with the level of detail on each ship. I figure that's why they're priced higher; more effort to texture and model. The issue is, that when compared to the customization options of a standard ship kit, buyers just aren't getting their money's worth. We get so little customization for what we're paying for, it's almost like we're being cheated, and all the carriers wind up looking the same (especially since not many have opted for the new layouts).
Here is my solution: cut each layout, and any future layouts into four sections: Engines, Hangars, Midships, and Bridge, and allow each section to be swapped with other sections from other vessels. This way, we can mix and match components for an additional level of personalization. There would be a few minor modifications required, since the control towers are placed differently on each ship, but that is a minor tweak. If the tower on every carrier was placed somewhere on the hangar section, they'd still make sense visually.
