There are many, many issues with those two parts of a carrier, even if we simply ignore the base cost and weekly prices. All of which reduces their usage to one or two cases.
1. It takes a ton of room. The two services take quite a bit of place, and their content even more. Meaning you will never have it all, reqiiring you to specialize in a few roles/themes instead.
2. It takes a lot of money to be anywhere near good in one of those themes and roles. If I want to have a "Don't be stranded" package, consisting of the exploration ships, their fsd and fuel scoops, the fuel and fsd packages are by categories (E,D,C,B,A) instead of by size. Meaning that I'd have to buy the size 8 versions everytime instead of only the required size 4-6. In plus of all the space taken , it gets quickly expensive due to those categories
3. No profits. You all already know that, no one ever thought of making much money with those two, and the buying in packs part doesn't help. No one wants to buy overpriced stuff, and untill we can get a discount on our prices, those two parts are useless money wise.
4. A carrier owner locking the carrier or placing those services in pause will force you to go at a station have them carried over instead. Minor disadvantage but still quite annoying for the users.
5. All the unavailable things you may want. Guardian tech and such are off limits. I am rich , why couldn't I just buy and sell those ? By the power of money, I ask for a free market of alien tech!
6. Refilling only possible within the right systems. If I am paying that much, I'd at least expect those items to have a free same day delivery system anywhere.
So what are those services good at ? It is there only to make you lose money, and not just a small amount ?
It can help avoid stranding people out there by having the right ships, but that part is limited by the number of ships in the pack, plus anyone following you out there most likely has an exploration vessel.
It could produce money. If everyone was crazy enough to buy a 8A fuel scoop a week at 25% overprice. Or a few million sidewinders.
It could make items more available. If you ignore the fact that room and supply limits will make opening a shop for everything painful.
Right now, the only reason I have those is to let my friends dock their ships and place their modules in to have us all travel at once, a mobile home system going from pirate massacres to painite mining spots (come to Irusan sell me some painite btw, buying at 700k).
And for that , I am paying full price as stated before. All of the costs, with none of the benefit, if there were ever profits to be made.
Everyone already suggested changes, and here are my suggested changes for those two parts of the carrier :
1. Make discounts on those packs. Wether it would be a 1% for each rank in trade, explo and combat, or a LYR system discount, or even a federal discount for admirals I do not care, as long as we can get 5% at least.
2. Use the anaconda hull magic to lightweight all that stuff a bit.Let us store more modules and ships for sale in those carriers, assuming anyone would ever do that.
3. Make the pause service option only block the selling and buying of ships, but still allow the transfer and switching of modules and ships. This way you can't be trolled out of your ship, and I save some money.
4. Add some more permits. I want a permit to sell federal corvettes, gunships, and guardian fsd boosters. I am rich, as proven by my carrier ownership, means I should be able to pay for that just like I can simply pay my way out after mass murders of passenger liners.
5.Add a way to refill the stocks without being in the systems. Make it overpriced and long like transfers, but give us some other options than going all the way back to the start.
Feedback is appreciated, sorry for the half ranting long text, fly safe cmdrs o7
