[CCN] The Christmas Carriers Convoy

@Qohen: Could you please change #410 Flirble Rasok from US to EU. Tia.

Yay on the roster :)
Scrambling to acquaint CMDR Flirble Rasok with as many significant Engineers as possible to buff Serenity. And store juicy modules for later retrieval when in Colonia.

Will process all changes soon.

FleetComm private group:

Remember that you have to both fill the FleetComm form AND send an in-game request.

My bad, wasn't fully mentionned on the OP.

Hi, it might have been asked before but how do you handle pilots from other time-zones? I will limp about 8-10 hours behind and would not make it to the rendezvous for the convoy. Will you have several waves of ships going or just one big convoy? I am thinking of joining this epic journey with a tanker but I need to keep in touch with my wing/wave to be able to refuel them if necessary. And I probably need protection because you will see my ship blow up from several star systems away with all this fuel in the holds.

That is such an awesome idea for a convoy! Man, it reminds me of the Battlestar Galactica convoy. Thanks for putting this together. [up]

Didn't realise there was going to be a US mass departure time as well as the EU one. That's also great news for anybody in Oceania who can wrangle some time off work on a Friday. Since if I'm figuring the time zones correctly, the US event will fall around noon for us.

Roster Entry:
17 / Chrystoph / US / Militia Escort / Vulture / FGES Mantis

Just realized that, while I am a US player, I normally play in the EU time zone. I am planning on attending the EU launch, so I don't know how that will impact plans....

While I would need someone else to confirm, I don't think it matters what country you live in as far as the launch is concerned. If your play hours match the EU time then you can fly with them.

I believe the the real reason for a separate US launch was we wanted to have a launch event but most of us would not be available for the EU launch. I know Dr Yayomeister is coordinating the Xbox side for this event and those of us with him happen to be on Xbox and in the US.

Hey there; I don't think I'm going to be able to devote the time and energy to this I'm afraid; please remove CMDR Titler from the list, sorry. Good luck to all of those still going!

CPS Delta One standing by, also any help for outfitting my Eagle for the journey, I don't have engineers unlocked yet

Considering signing up as a Freelance pilot in the convoy, but have a few questions:

1) On average how much game time, while not in a rush, does it take to reach Colonia from the bubble?
2) As the convoy is 1 month I'm sure there will be those who get to Colonia and back in way under the 1 month time period, is the convoy going to be taking a very leisurely pace?

Get an A class FSD, the biggest fuel scoop you can afford and D rate everything else.

Multiply your jump range by 80 and that is your theoretical maximum travel speed per hour. If you just jump, honk, refuel jump you will manage about 90% of theoretical max.

It is a 22000ly trip.

The convoy's pace is pretty leisurely I would say for an average jump range ship e.g. 30ly/jump would need about 3 hours of travel per week to stay on schedule.

I estimate in my sidewinder (18.3ly/jump) it will take me over 20 hours. My anaconda (53.5ly/jump) could do it in 7.

Colonia is roughly 22,000 ly out as the crow flies, maybe 25,000 ly total jumps. If you're just jonking (jump-honk-ing), you can do, with a little training (which you will have after the first few thousand ly) around one jump per minute.

The rest will depend on your ship's jump range, your fuel scoop and your willingness to ignore shinies. With a jump-optimized ship with a presumed jump range of 50 ly, you'll need 500 jumps, or roughly 8 hours continous playtime. With a loaded cargo hauler and 12 ly range, that goes up to 2000 jumps and correspondingly 32 hours of playtime - or one month with one hour/day.

So the convoy's pace is (I think) tailored to one hour of flight time per day for a 12 ly range cargo hauler. Some stretches between depots are a bit more demanding than that (if you want to make the meet-up at the waypoints), others are a bit more leisurely.

I'll be doing the trip with an engineered Python equipped as a stratotanker. Empty, she'll do 34 ly/jump, fully loaded up with fuel and limpets roughly 25. But I expect to travel a bit more than the 25,000 ly stated above, as I fear that only very few carriers will decide to run out of fuel directly next to me....

You can modify these numbers slightly by using Neutron Boosts, but in my experience, that's mainly for the novelty value. Neutron jumping to cut down on flight time doesn't work for me - lining up for the boost charge, then manually selecting the next jump target takes more time than simply jonking through.

Thanks for the info.

My main ship is an Asp Explorer with just over 30ly range, could easily be increased if I wanted. Based on racer1's travel time formula, if it was a rush trip I could do it in 3-4 days. I'll probably take my time, so I figure 6-9 days. I figure I'll follow the route and possibly visit some of the POI along the away.

Since I only started playing back in October of this year, are there any unique holiday community goals or activities that happen in the bubble over December to early-January? Just curious to know if I was planning a Colonia trip or two whether I should look at being back in the bubble for anything.

Launch Procedure

All Carriers, Escort and Stratotankers taking part to the EU launch event will be expected to have read the Launch Procedure.

Please read and familiarize yourself with the various steps to ensure a safe departure for you and everyone.

- You have to be in the voice channel in order to be dispatched, whether you talk or not. You NEED to be able to listen to directives.
- If you have no shield, you can mention it in your beacon request in order to be placed in a more secure instance.
- Reckless flying will not be tolerated.
- You have to use the #ccc-beacon-request text channel to request a wing.
- About twenty or fifteen minutes before the jump time (1900 IGT), the text channel will be locked and no more requests will be processed.
- It is expected of you to be on the look out, focused and reactive. Once you are winged up and waiting for the jump, you can relax.
- Don't forget that you are not the only person there. Think about the others and follow procedures as best you can.

Once the fleet has jumped from Miami to Wilson, instances will be broken. We will then switch to a second, simpler procedure:

1) Stay in SuperCruise, throttle to zero, align the rear of your ship pointing at the star.
2) Find the next system on the #ccc-beacon-request channel.
3) Target next system and charge FSD as soon as possible.
4) Beacons will check up on you, make sure you're ready for the next jump.
5) Patrol will check the next system and give the fleet clearance.
6) A new countdown is set by Souvarine.
7) Ships align and throttle up, jump.

Repeat until we are clear of any risk. Each jump should take a few minutes and will be about 10ly. Details on what to do in case of interdiction are on the document.

Multiply your jump range by 80 and that is your theoretical maximum travel speed per hour. If you just jump, honk, refuel jump you will manage about 90% of theoretical max.

To put this in another way. I find a jump scoop & honk is 50-52 seconds.

So I multiply my jump range by 60, that way you get your flight time per hour.

My Anaconda has a 25LY range, 1500 per hour, that's just short of 15 hours to do it.

I must say, travelling solidly for 15 hours just jumping is going to melt your brain, you need to allow an hour per play session to break some glasses & have some fun. Or drop an hour of your game time to play something else (I used to go on Rocket League for 30 minutes to break up the session)

I wanted to ask: Are there enough modules available in Colonia? If there is any particular module lacking I would like to buy and store a few so I can transfer them to Jacques upon arrival.

Cheers!
