Celebrating 35 years of Elite!

CMDR: Elder0010
Fav Memory: I was playing Elite on my c64, I was too young to understand it (like 6 / 7 years old) and I ended up playing "The Astronaut" pretending that my (broken) Atari 2600 was the spaceship computer. Cmdr Elder0010

Well, best memory let's see...

Only just found this game series myself, but as a lover of Space Explpration and Hauling games, I enjoyed EvE but couldnt get myself behind the literal MONTHS of research time required in it. Elite Dangerous gives me that same sense of joy I got playing EvE, and I cant wait to go further into the stars!

Congratulations on 35 years guys! That's quite an achievement really.
So I have a story for you, last October I had acquired an old Occulus Rift headset and was beside myself with how awesome this game is with VR support. Everything was fantastic, I was piloting my original cobra mk3 down to survey a damaged space station and get some meta alloys for engineering. On the last jump down warnings start flaring, things go sideways and I'm ripped from hyperspace unexpectedly. So here I am, home alone, staring down a thargoid for the first time with a new VR setup. Honestly that made the hair on my arms stand up. And I had to go outside for air, scared the heck out me. Lol...
I had to let that headset go a month later due to some internal damage which I can only assume is the reason I got it at discount, but I will never forget that feeling.

The first time I played Elite was on my Commodore 64, Everything was new, I had just upgraded from a Vic 20 and Elite held a lot of promise. I think my most poignant memory was the awesome music (back then) of docking, that together with the graphics of a real deep space simulator with pirates and trading chewed up quite a bit of my time back then. Thank you Frontier for reminding me that it's been 35 years :) I was 20 back then and now I'm docking with my mid 50's o7 Commander! regards Sentienc3

Favorite memory has to be when I had to travel 50+ jumps to meet with my friends. We had all run out of fuel and were in a group call and had all called the fuel rats together lol.

Happy 35th Anniversary Elite!

My memory is from Christmas 1995, I got my first ever PC and it had Frontier: Elite II bundled with it. I had no idea what I was doing, but the moment I figured out how to stop flying my Eagle in reverse and start going forwards was amazing. I’ve been hooked on Elite ever since then :giggle:

My best memory is also my first memory of Elite, and it’s what got me hooked from day one... Acorn Electron, loading game off tape, pressing space to start, launching out into space for the very first time, oooh stars, oooh planet, oooh crap now how the hell do I get back into the station? It can’t be that hard...

It was that hard.

CMDR Bracus Loremane here... I remember playing Elite on my Commodore 64 back in the 80s. It was my all-time favorite game. When my computer-less friends saw the game, they were amazed. We used to have weekend Elite parties and play into the wee hours of the morning. We played that game so much, I had to replace the keyboard twice. Hardest thing to remember in the heat of battle was it didn't matter how hard you pressed on the key, you wouldn't roll, pitch, turn, or fire any faster. LOL! Great times and great memories. Still friends with many of those fellows. We still talk about Elite to this day.

For me, it was being in Colonia, having just arrived on the Galactic Nebula Expedition, and starting hauling Palladium in for the Community Goal, when the first new outposts (Vitto Orbital, etc.) were built - and the place went from a distant curiosity to a growing settlement in its own right.

Lots of good memories of being out here since, with the various changes, events, people, etc. - but that one's where it all started for me and got me playing the game in a different way to the way I had been.

My favourite memory is when me and some friends winged up to go to Colonia and we were observing each other's landing on a 3G planet. No one crashed luckily.

Confirm that most in game lore is fluff, mess up an update, become all money-grabby then remind people of their best experiences in previous incarnations of the game.
An odd move.... but a brave one! :D

My favorite memory of the game are many. Mostly the help other Commanders give new people like me. As far as in game occurences my favorite would have to be what happened yesterday. I was going through my mission logs trying to find something I knew I could do. I am not very good at combat so those were out. Then up popped a Navy mission I needed for a rep grind I was doing. It was a combat mission. Petrified because I have never successfully accomplished combat in game before I took the mission. I equip my Python with 3 multi-cannons and 2 pulse lasers. Put my shield boosters on. Beef up as much as I can so I dont die in 10 seconds again and set out to find my target. I jump into the system and start scanning. All of a sudden I hear "mission target identified". Now Im thinking ok now I can see where I need to go. But no. All of a sudden unprepared I find myself in combat. I take a deep breath and man my guns. This is it. I swing around to face my target and start shooting. He flies straight at me. I rotate so he doesnt hit me and find him again. I shoot again. Target shield offline. YES!!!! I fire some more. Target shield online. NO!!!!. I fire some more. Target shield offline. Okay I got this.... Target shield online... Well damn. I keep shooting. Target shield offline. I fire my heart out and as fast as my guns can go. Target destroyed. YES!!!!!!!!!! I did it. I almost cried for joy. I jumped up and screamed I was so happy. Happy dance time!!! And that is my favorite memory so far in the game. A close second is cracking an asteroid for void opals.

My favorite memory is when I bought my first Anaconda. Hit the launch button, lifting that shiny big thing off from the platform and and accele... Wait, this is the primary fire button. Weapon fire, then a big fire ball and of course the rebuy screen... 🤦‍♀️

I was leaving Solo Orbiter in my eagle, back in 3301. Noticing a disproportionate number of players on my radar, I swung about and saw they were all Eagles! Curious, I though, but I had a mission and proceeded to spool my FSD. As the countdown began, one of them caught up to me: ‘So you wanna race?’ he asked, as I jumped.

Some years later, I discovered Elite Racers and realized what I almost became a part of. I should have flown back, but at the time I didn’t expect players to be so organized, and figured they would probably have left! :(

Favourite memory is after 33 years of sporadic play since 1985 and my introduction to the game on my Spectrum getting to Elite for the first time I was so proud.

Second favourite would be 3 weeks after getting Elite Dangerous on my PC(mac) getting a HOTAS plugged in and being able to dock as if it was a normal everyday activity.

Nth favourite would be ......

Cmdr Roger J Smith

So many memories of playing Elite. Started playing on a ZX Spectrum back in 84' or 85', went on to an Amstrad, then an Atari ST, before finally getting an early PC version back in the day, reaching Elite on all of them. Waited god knows how many years until Elite Dangerous came out to finally jump back into the cockpit of a Cobra Mk.III.

Best memory has to be in the current version of the game, when i ran into my alter ego, Johnny Gibbon (who works for the Dark Wheel), who was under attack from some some nasty little pirate. Couldn't exactly leave him there as he was in a spot of bother, so i helped him out. Sadly he didn't say thanks or anything, guess his radio must have gotten knocked out in the fight. Least he's safe, out in the black somewhere...

Commander Gibbon

This is my favourite game of all time! My favourite moment was the first time I looked at the Galaxy Map. And the first time I came across a Neutron star. The visuals were just breathtaking! Cheers for making this beautiful game.
