censorship on / off

To all the mods, rather than quoting you all... As enforcer's of the house rules, I don't really think you need to defend FD's house rules, as mentioned, their house, their rules.

I'd be curious as to reasons (technical, legal, and/ or otherwise) as to the possibility of an "opt out" option. As an example, back in my Xbox Live days, I do remember there being an "open" area where you could pretty much say what you wished. I'm fairly confident this would still be the case.

Regardless, I think the mod team, generally speaking, do a good job of keeping the house in order. I'd like to see a little more ownership in terms of decisions made by mods, but this isn't the thread/place for that discussion.
I don't think you thought that statement through. There are certain topics where i think a vast majority of people in the world would agree censorship is warranted. If you think about it, i'm sure you can think of certain topics that FD most certainly wouldn't want discussed on these forums. For example, certain topics one might find on the dark web.

It's a slippery slope, and hard to draw a line, but a line is a must. It's very hard to disagree with your point. I still do find it difficult to understand the extremity of the in-game filter, when I can't even name my Federal Assault Ship an Assault Ship without the stars blanking it out. And yet, my Anaconda's name, The Golden [censored]™ (and no, it's not a swear word, or even offensive, a little childish, perhaps...) , has no issue being visible in game, and yet, someone did find it offensive on the forums (after nearly two years in my sig, mind you...).

I just find the various filters, and individual standards, can be highly variable... Basically, I'm the sort of person that likes consistency.

Z...

Wow, so many 12-year olds here. Grow up guys. It's a game for all ages, keep it decent and grow up.

Excuse me, I most certainly think someone should be leading by example instead of name calling and acting all parental to people that are most probably older than you.

What amazes me is how people cannot express themselves without swearing. Are some people here construction site workers? :p

Its the ridiculous situations caused by censorship that are the problem.
There is no swearing in "Assault ship", still you can't name your assault ship "Assault ship" in the game.

The power of censorship quickly becomes abused.

I understand protecting young and immature minds (keep the filter on by default) but the free expression of a normal adult should not be judged in advance, and censored by default. Freedom to discuss ideas of all types is central to society. These arguments are not about censorship but rather protecting your rights to expression from those who would control them. We should have a choice.

Censorship, who is the GODLY person to decide what is offensive to me, does such a person exist ?, I resent that someone gets to decide for me what I can and can't hear or read, actually I detest this tyrannical concept with a passion, NOBODY decides for me what I can and can't read, see, or hear.

No censorship please that way I can form a opinion based on reality and not someone else's edited version of what I should be seeing, reading, or hearing. I'm a adult who doesn't need a safe space.

The double meanings of some words in the game is entertaining, at least someone at FD has a sense of humour....

This has nothing to do with deciding what you're allowed to read or hear. This is entirely about the owner of a privately-owned venue having the right to make rules of conduct that they want followed in said privately-owned venue, with the understanding that in order to make use of said privately-owned venue you would be required to follow the rules of conduct.

Of course you have the option not to use the privately-owned venue if you find the rules of conduct unacceptable, but you do not have the option to demand that the owner of the venue change their rules.

I rarely swear when communicating via written format (my written language is quite different from my spoken one, I don't know why) so I don't mind the censor per say, but there are a few words that are censored which have a normal and a derogatory definition (eg: Google "an annoyingly awkward thing" ) and it's things like that that annoy me. Words I use which I don't even remotely consider to be swearing.

It honestly reminds me of this one time I said "bloody hell" and my father replied "don't swear." In no way shape or form is "bloody hell" swearing... good grief, even Ron said it in Harry Potter and that had children everywhere. ... Every. Where. *shudders*

I get this is a game mean for people of a young age and up (I think it's 7?) -- but, honestly, how many people are under 18 on this forum? Pretty sure the answer is 'none at all.' ( free rep to ye who understood that reference )

Treating adults like children.. many find that insulting.

I'm in favour of an on/off switch; makes everyone happy.
