c'est la vie...

Solution: Always play open, so you can make money and get ganked at the same time.
It also makes you feel superior when hearing about the risk-averse who hide in solo-pg.

Play in whatever mode you like whenever you like.

Laugh at people who measure courage by video game menu selection or get upset at your choices.

Doing Torc CG right now...and all I get is CMDR Killer Switch going around and offering 'cyber', sorry, 'PvP' or 'duel'. Sorry man, not my bag.

I mean would I feel pain if I loss ship and cargo to someone at this point? Sure.

Would I leave Open? Naah. I would try to outsmart them. Otherwise what's the point of CGs. I like interacting with my fellow psychopaths.

Who said anything about courage? OP complains that he ran out of money when playing in open, and that he needs to return to solo for making money. This suggest me that he wants to play in open. I'm offering him the perfect solution he may not have thought of until now. Coincidentally, that's the very same solution you offer: playing in whatever mode he likes.

Yeah but there are shades of grey...flaying less expensive ships, trying different approaches to beat griefers....etc.

Please re-read what you quoted from me.

I mentioned risk-aversion. While I don't feel that approach adds any enjoyment to multiplayer gaming, I didn't (and wouldn't) draw conclusions of real life qualities of my fellow players in videogames.

Are you sure you aren't just projecting your feelings of being a coward in solo-pg to random forum-people? :]

We all know gankers avoid any risk while engaging lone traders. And we all know those poor sods are pretty bored in real life and could benefit from having some quality time with a girl or a boy, or even just a nice pillow.

I'm just so super impressed by your courageous and manly menu choices that I feel I cant compete.

See? That's what I'm talking about. Projection, and drawing conclusions of fellow players based on their actions in a videogame.

Such fun.

And this muffles me. I mean, you gank me, fine. But why would you combat log if you are so bored and need some actual danger? Where's danger if you don't lose your ship or face consequences?

Maybe design is just bad. Like having time to kill over half a min then giving option to log off with a 15 sec timer.

Obviously we all can see Elite Dangerous didn't become the Dark Souls of space sims it was maybe aimed to be, so why not use all the tools we have and just have fun.

Fighting for life as a trader was ok before engineers for me. It was important part of this game. You either come prepared and lose some cargo space/speed/jump on defences or you risk it in earn more or die in the process. That was fun. Before the engineers. I hate engineers > I wont engineer my ship > most of the time I don't stand a chance. But the whole concept of traders vs people trying to kill them was all right. I don't know what people were expecting from game like this (cutthroat galaxy?)? Godmode? Other people not shoting? ED was never meant to be purely pve game. Whole "solo" or private groups of people trying to hug each other is just a cancer for open. Think about it - people who want to pvp are already playing open, people who don't want to are already plaing solo/private... guess why some traders in open are ganked over and over again... because 90% of traders are running in safe solo/private and there are far too few people in open. Try telling some people that they are not forced to do CGs, that they have the whole galaxy to play untill they arel ready for a CG mayhem. Nope, they just have to do this and be safe from other players at the same time. They just have to push into the same system as every pvp player and then complain becase they are being killed. It's like jumping into a pool and complain about water trying to drown you.

Sure, blame game for chickening out. Sounds very solid argument to me.

Well, it's the only sane thing to do. Game features aren't designed by only looking at the optimal use - devs should also calculate with misuse, exploitting, griefing, trolling or whatever. Neither players are designed by... wait, they aren't designed at all, they just crawl all over the product, doing whatever. What's the point for blaming them for the whatever they do? I rather blame devs for making an environment where people could do this and that.
