GATEKEEPER MEGASHIPS ESTABLISHED

24 NOV 3307
Factions responsible for the distribution of conditional access permits have deployed so-called Gatekeeper megaships to neighbouring systems.
The agreement between 14 factions intends to allow permit distribution procedures to continue regardless of the political status of the associated systems. Though the reason for system access restrictions varies between the factions, preventing any disruption to interstellar trade was a key factor in the talks.
A spokesperson for Alioth Independents, one of the factions involved, offered the following:
“It is rare that so many participants from across the core systems are able to reach an agreement so easily. These megaships will ensure that the flow of traffic within our respective borders remains appropriately controlled, providing support for the permit offices in those systems.”
“Only a few short years ago, the system of Tiliala saw disruption in assigning permits to eligible visitors due to political disturbances. The Panjabell system experienced this problem again within recent months. These lessons have inspired us to prevent further repetitions in the future.”
“I would like to thank each faction representative for their contributions to maintaining consistency in our methods for the ease of pilots, recognising the valuable contributions they make to the galactic economy.”
Permit distribution to eligible recipients will still be carried out remotely.

edit: Ahem - looks like a typo with Panjabell meaning Peregrina ..
edir2: Also no mention of the switch from 15Lt -< 20Ly permits which some have suggested has happened
So, where's the Polaris gatekeeper XD

Interestingly set up, too - top 25% and Tier 1 required, so you can't just play both sides and hand in one zone for the NMLA to get it, you actually have to make a fair bit of effort.
(Equally, if they end up with few supporters, top 25% is usually relatively practical to go for a couple of days later)

Good theoretical set up for the CG, I think - it'll be very interesting to see how it works out in practice. (I'll also predict an Empire loyalist victory, though)
Funny how, when it's a module everyone cares about, everyone's all "It should be for everyone who participates!" but when it's for a module nobody wants... silence...

Not really - "lots of people make more noise than few people" - that must be a saying from somewhere :)

I was quite surprised how many were predicting an NMLA win based on the fact they have a module reward - though they are doing better than I imagined so I guess the staunch anti-Imperialists are siding with terrorists / wanting more of those sweet enzyme missile racks?

At the moment I'm more interested in:
  • What will be the replacement for the delayed Colonia Bridge Phase 3 next week - nothing has really been trailed
  • What will Phase 3 be? The 56 megaships have no gaps, nothing is missing, so what is phase 3? Increase Tritium production? Jumping the megaships to make travel to Colonia trivial? Extending the highway past Colonia? Rest stops on the highway? I hope it's increased Tritium ... I need to fly home one day ...

I just want more salvation stuff.

Though despite being a staunch imperialist, my RP hat is suffering a moral quandry because Theta 7 clearly has good knowledge about weaponisation of thargoid tech.

That's a reasonable call - since his m/s went back to Mbooni recently and we haven't heard anything from him despite Aegis attacking his allies. In fact there's been not much feedback from Aegis/Tanner at all ... and meanwhile the Thargoids continue to attack more and more systems without any comments, or even calls for Salvation to 'save us' from the press.

Muhdrid running at about 2:1 participants in favour of the Empire, and 3:2 in bonds in their favour. Feels unlikely that this is going to swing back the other way ... but the other thing to note is the overall pace - it's again looking likely that the 80B target is going to be hit by one side during the weekend.

(I've not been keeping track - have space combat bond payouts increased significantly since a few months ago when even the winner would struggle to make 40B by the end of the week, or is this just that more people have the framerate and equipment to efficiently plough through Odyssey CZs than previously?)

They upped the goalposts, 160bn now

Didn't Liz Ryder create them for T7? Might want to have a word with her. (Although I recall the Empire did try to bring her in for a quiet word, except independent commanders said nope. Whoops?)

With high enough skill and good enough gear, yes. I made the top 25% for the missile rack effortlessly in an hour yesterday. But it only works in high CZ, in medium and low the payouts are much lower. Still bit of a sad affair that you no longer need a warship, but can just fly a Sidey to a ground CZ, jump out in the Dominator and make more bonds easily than you would with the warship. The bugs in Odyssey make it only worse. My second CZ yesterday was bugged, the progress bars got stuck, it never completed. Endless stream of slaughter and bonds.
how much can you get out of a ground high CZ in an hour?

At the moment I'm more interested in:
  • Jumping the megaships to make travel to Colonia

would have to be a single jump and return back to original though right? so you would still need to get off one MS and onto the other one, would also imagine it will be 20 minutes per jump like the FC's so probably no quicker
I know it's still very minimal but it does remind me of being asleep on the train and waking up back where you started!

Megaships are not Fleet Carriers. And this is a computer game.

Convention is that megaships jump weekly (or bi-weekly) and there are already non-dockables that travel to Colonia IIRC in 2 jumps. Jaques made it in a single jump. So they could do something like a weekly jump, closest to bubble jumps -> Colonia. All others jump to next slot closer towards bubble. So Colonia becomes a 'dock on m/s before Thursday' trip like the one to the Guardian area. Getting back takes a year ( ), but then who flies back from Colonia ;)

Or they could do anything else, including your idea - because ... computer game.

I don't think they'll do any of that though, or they would probably have called it 'Colonia Conveyor' - Bridge tends to imply a static structure. But maybe not, because ... fdev :)

Nope.

Under a private contract from what appeared to be the Eurybia Blue Mafia, I designed demolition charges capable of delivering a secondary payload. At no point did I know these would be customised to hold Thargoid caustic enzymes or used in terrorist activities. Until recently, I had no idea that the starport bombings were caused by modified versions of my design.

So Liz only created the explosives, she didn't deal with any of the Thargoid bits.

le sigh
I made 29m in about 5 hours yesterday in a space high CZ
I struggled to get to 8 last night in about 2 hours
woe is me
Yep, space CZ bonds are way lower. While you can still make better overall profit there with wing massacre missions, those do not count for the CG.

Is "a quiet word" code for a stay at Serene Harbour? I don't think the Empire typically does quiet words.

Now you know Serene Harbour doesn't exist and is just a figment of the collective imaginations of indy commanders. The IISS says so, so it must be true.
They would've used some other top-secret hidden interrogation installation. :sneaky:

COLONIA BRIDGE PROJECT EXTENDED TO 3308

26 NOV 3307
Pilots’ Federation ALERT
The second phase of the Colonia Bridge project is complete, with Brewer Corporation confirming details for phase three.
An additional 26 megaships have taken up stationary positions in systems between Alcor and Colonia. Along with the existing 30 megaships, these will provide convenient rest, refuel and repair facilities to those travelling to and from the distant Colonia region.
A press release from Brewer Corporation addressed the next steps:
“The galactic community has made enormous contributions to establishing the Colonia Bridge. Encouraged by this, we have revised our plans and increased investment in the project.”
“The next phase is scheduled to commence on the 6th of January 3308, and will add starports to key locations along the route. These will provide further services and opportunities to pilots, as well as forming permanent micro-communities between the core systems and Colonia.”
“Phase three will also address the availability of tritium, to improve refuelling capacity for owners of our Drake-class fleet carriers. To incentivise the delivery of vital materials, we will be offering the same engineered frame shift drives that proved so popular during phase two.”
