Disillusioned about what the empire is, and always will be while it's the "empire".
Ya screw core-dynamics, lets fight them! Stupid fed businesses need to learn the alliance has no love for them, has never had love for them, and WILL never have love for them. Mean it's federal and imperial corporations fighting for control of independent territory that caused the formation of the alliance, and its necessary expansion. So if Core-Dynamics wants to threaten and blackmail Lakon board members, lets just embargo the federation till they tug on their pet corporations leash.

ALLIANCE SHELTERS NEW MARLINIST REFUGEES
Tens of thousands of Marlinist refugees have claimed sanctuary in Alliance space, after emigrating from the Empire to avoid political persecution.
In recent weeks, there has been a steady stream of ex-Imperial citizens arriving at Alliance systems, mostly travelling aboard small private vessels or in the holds of cargo ships.
The humanitarian aid organisation Safeguard Interstellar reported that accommodation and basic necessities are being provided. Alliance Interpol is running stringent security checks for evidence that members of the NMLA terrorist group are present.
The initial wave of refugees, which fled to the Federation, are currently preparing to populate a number of independent colonies established by the Sirius Corporation. However, these systems cannot yet provide harbour to the continuing exodus of Marlinists from the Empire.
Prime Minister Edmund Mahon publicly welcomed the refugees, but there has been some dissent in the Alliance Assembly. Councillor Nakato Kaine, who is expected to be Mahon’s main rival in next year’s election, received widespread support for her views:
“Naturally, we must provide these poor people with emergency aid, but there are practical limits to our resources. It is not our responsibility to solve the Empire’s domestic issues, and we have seen the Federation pay the price for sheltering terrorists. The Alliance cannot end up as the dumping ground for other superpowers’ problems.”

Sure, but no Prime Minister of the Alliance has ever completed their first term either, so equally no incumbent PM standing for re-election has ever been defeated.

I see Siruis corp trying to make a project genesis type weapon against the thargoids. Technology to convert their ammonia worlds to at best worlds suitable for humans, at worst just destroy the habitat to clear the planet or perhaps even wipe out its inhabitants.
Maybe when it is deployed it will miss fire and just blow almost all the atmosphere into deep space leaving just a tenuous remnant that we will next year be able to walk around in and meet the friendly native survivors.

)Fat Eddie had better get some serious flak for this - especially with the "imminent" elections. It was pretty obvious that this would happen from the start of the Coalsack CGs. The blood of all the poor sods in the CS & WH nebulae is all over his chubby little mitts.
