Challenger = Chieftain = Crusader, Krait = Python... What's the point?

Besides an SLF what's the point of all these cloned ships?

Maybe I'm generalizing too much but I don't see enough of a difference to justify these new ships. SLF aren't even worth carrying from my point of view as they just get blown up instantly or sit unused taking up an optional slot while stealing my profits and experience. Marginal differences between the Krait and Python's handling characteristics and less cargo space don't justify me moving over to a Krait.

If they're going to introduce a new ship one would hope that it's at least different than what we have. This way we would actually have a reason for buying a new ship and going through the hoops of outfitting it and engineering the modules. Instead we just get more of the same, colour me quite disappointed in the creativity of the game developers.

For example how about we get a medium size imperial ship, (instead of another Challenger clone) which has be sorely missing from the game since the beginning? Imperials have either large or small ships and nothing in between.

SLF is good for multicrew, the new Alliance one they did talk about how it can support more multicrews, inside the ship + SLF.

No idea if many people multicrew though.

Well for a start I like flying the Chieftain & Krait, I also like flying with friends (They hop into the SLF) So all boxes ticked for me. would like to see more types of ships though, but I expect those will come with the larger updates.

I'd like to know the stats on Multi crew and how many actually use it. I'd bet it's scarcely over 5%... (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). On PC I don't hear about many commanders using MC but it could be more popular on Console?

Pleasing such a small group of people seems like a poor use of resources

Krait is considerably cheaper than a Python and as above has SLF which is great for hoping into and doing canyon runs. Can't speak for pew pew as I don't do it.

I like the new ship and the new fighters. I reckon I might just jump into the Goid story now.
SLF pilots are great for me. They dont take any profits cause I sack them after use. Perfect. - Note: SLF pilots are paid upfront for their services. If you wish to keep an* SLF pilot on for extended periods of time, they naturally will require a wage.

* For the grammar polis.
An, used before, SLF, is appropriate as S phonetically sounds as such, ESS. Thank you. They do ask for it.

The point of the Krait is that it's awesome, amazing, has three seats, a fighter bay, and is great fun in all of the ways.

It's also the first "Variant" that has a completely unique model, which is how they should be done.

SLFs are awesome. So is Multi-Crew, especially if you have some friends who can only play on a very tight time schedule. MC allows them to quickly join you, so you can do stuff together.

That and its better agility means that the whole "Python = Krait" is wrong. The Krait is a very interesting ship all by itself, while the Python still is the better medium hauler. Both of them have their spots in my arsenal.
.
Where I am uncertain is Chieftain vs. Challenger. They are very similar and fill the same spot. Also, I consider it likely that the Krait and the Crusader compete for the same combat role. But while we don't know the specifics of the Crusader yet, the Chieftain and Challenger are similar but not the same. Both ships have people who prefer it over the other.
.
That all being said: variety is good, and not unrealistic at all. I mean, why is there the BMW M3 as well as the Audi RS4? It makes no sense, right? :D ;)

The variants I agree with, but the Krite is definitely different from the Py. Handling, lower armor rating, dimensions, speed, canopy visibility, distributor performance..

While I do agree that the 3 Chieftains are pretty much the same ship with different excel sheet numbers, as for the Krait it's a completely new ship, nothing like the Python, even if they overlap usages.

To be honest, I wish there were a lot more overlaping alternative ships like the Krait/Python (as long as their new ships, not carbon copies).

Python is the best all rounder - others can't get near - Krait is a goodish all rounder and is best ship in game for using an slf.
Challenger is the best anti thargoid scout ship full stop - and is pretty good on the larger ones as well. Chieftan I've never really found outstanding - it probably competes more with the Dropship family of ships.

Python for multirole cargo (not the same); all other ships small. The larger ships are too sluggish for my tastes (both supercruise and normal space), Chieftain included.

I use multicrew quite a lot. There are often people hopping into my Krait to shoot Thargoids. Many of them claim to have never been on board a Krait before, or even tried multicrew before though. I also tend to find a ship to jump into after clicking the search for other ships button in it's various forms after a few minutes.

Though, it would be good, if you could say you want to join any ship that pops up within a range of activites, then it' just keep trying automatically. Gotta keep clicking manually right now which kinda sucks.

Anyway, it does get used, it is decent fun for what it is.

It's a MASSIVE shame it wasn't developed into what the devs wanted it to be though. (Multicrew SRVs, multicrew working with wings (up to 4 max players) and the other proposed role(s) )

Sure it's cheaper but when you're in the end game stage and have 100's of millions of credits the price difference is marginal. I'm looking for something different than what already exists, not just a clone + SLF...

Player choice? You want clones that are slightly different? A+, A- and A = side grade, side grade and original flavour. Likely so you have to buy a different skin for each ship model that is basically the same....
