Changing hud color for xbox

Re: Colorblindness

In other words, it can be done, but they didn't think of it when they coded the game, and to do it now would take more work than they are willing to do, so color blind people can play something else.

Let's not turn this into a human rights issue shall we?

Whilst I sympathise with those that are colour blind, I do know a few...including my 26 year old son who still manages quite happily playing a huge variety of Xbox titles. He doesn't play E-D because he doesn't like it...If I remember rightly 'it's a bit pants and OK for old people like me'... was his exact expression, which has nothing to do with him being colour blind at all [rolleyes]

I fell foul of those very rules on my Xbox 360 with Skyrim a few years back... I used a PC save game from my PC copy of Skyrim, edited from the in game 'console' to add more gold and some nice armour etc and used a 3rd party program to convert the savegame to an Xbox save... Microsoft found out and removed my entire gamerscore...5 years worth, all my achievements, everything and branded my Xbox gamertag with the heading 'Cheater'. I had no appeal, no argument and was lucky not to have been banned from Xbox live. Microsoft used the argument that I had gained Xbox and in game achievements whilst effectively cheating which made those achievements null and void.

It would've specifically been the achievements that got you labeled as a cheater. Microsoft had no way of telling if you used a modded save or not, it would've been the timestamps on those achievements that gave it away.

On topic: if FD could separate ship hud from every other gui, I would be happy just being able to change that. Its really hard to make out things that overlap on your sensor when they're all the same colour.

User Interface or Heads Up Display

I agree; I would very much like to be able to change the HUD or User Interface color in Elite Dangerous on the Xbox One. I would be willing to pay $0.50 - $1.00 for all collors. Keep this thread alive; let Frontier know we want this.

The coolest colors I've seen, online, was a sort of white, silver/ gray combo. You'd think it to be obnoxious, but considering opacity it really worked! Looked slick! The next best I've seen was a sort of all violet one (think of the BluRay laser color).

If I just had this feature I wouldn’t ask for space legs or atmos. I don’t understand how they didn’t think that players would want different colors or even different HUD layouts.

It's just a little frustrating too when they give the availability to purchase different thruster and weapon colors but not HUD, like I would've thought that would have been on the top of the list for color changes.

As the universal solution to everything these days, all I can say is: Q4 update. :p

it is possible and it is quite simple.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RT2cyYAHvI.... i don't buy it that they can't do this on consoles......actually it's should be a small update lol

There's no need to go editing files...there's a good few 3rd party apps that do it all for you with saved presets and HUD/UI colour editors...(see my post a few pages back)

I don't know of anyone still faffing about with that .XML file to edit HUD colours.

I've quit cause of the colors...its just scouring to eyes after awhile. At first it's nice in the beginning but after multiple jumps it sinks in and I have to quit. Frontier can't act like it's irrelevant when people have took it upon themselves to fix it, add them to the payroll to change it for them. I'd be wholly grateful. I now have an orange meter that fills up until i cant take it and log off. Even the biggest advocate obsidiant changed his....lol. come on please patch it in! Yesterday

Solution to the problem, saves altering OS files etc so should keep Microsoft happy... store the HUD colour in the users xbox profile, simply alter the game to look for it if it's there use it if not use Orange.

Was thinking it's about this time for this topic, to make reappearance again. I'm at the point of seeing orange every where

So please Frontier think about your CMDR's or they will go mad.

And yes this will come again and again and again.

I have trouble understanding why people think frontier are just denying people the ability to change hud colours?
Lots of people seem to think that it’s easy to do because you can do it on PC! Well on PC it’s a relatively crude “Hack” that can mess with all of the other overlays and is completely unsupported by Frontier, so if you screw up your game then tough!
As a business if frontier could easily add the ability to change the hud colour then YTF wouldn’t they do it? A. It would shut up all the moaning about it and B. If they sold different colours for a small fee they could make money, which is pretty much what businesses do!
i’ve purchased Elite on Xbox, PS4 and pc. Every time I brought it I knew the hud would be orange, I have never seen a promise from frontier that I would ever be able to change the colour.

What if your vehicle manufacturer told you we can keep enhancing your car, we just can't change the EVIC?

The rock in your shoe analogy really fits here. I got the game b4 horizons but i'd say about 2 days later it was a natural inclination to look for an option to change the HUD color.
Whilst looking through the options I'm saying to myself, "all games need options like these", I can edit all these inputs, great. Now this color gradient/thingy should be around here somewhere...wait, im stuck with orange...nooooo...why? Not even a preset to swap it with? It's too front and center and without space legs I can't run away from it. Teh orange is real and also a reason certain venues color their walls to passive hues. It has a profound effect over your mood. So those who don't believe people quit after a long orange session is not the least absurd, "Red walls while recovering in hospitals, anyone"?

Side note: all ships need their own cockpit/ HUD configuration (not the same as the next ship) which is contributing to the orange enigma.

Isn't 3rd party apps a violation to the ToS or akin to reverse engineering?

When sleeping in a hotel your experience is won and lost in the amenities. The orange is sullying my experience?

Geez, that red walls analogy made me cringe. It almost made me cringe as bad as thinking about how many hours I’ve stared at orange and black.

Nope, that would outlaw game modding as a whole on PC. Specifically in E-D (on PC), FDev have allowed a limited access to certain files by 3rd party apps like Inara and a few others with very good grace.

It may violate some Microsoft or Sony ToS or EULA agreements of course...hence why there's no 3rd party tools available on Xbox or Playstation.

I still dont get why people haven't accepted the hud is orange and moved on with their life.
No "but people on PC have changed it so I should be able to as well" is not a valid reason.
I don't remember the masses whining over laser colours before we got the ability to change them. I get it can be annoying but really some complaints you would think people's eyes are melting.

While HUD color option is not on the top of my list of things I'd like to have changed in the game, it is a feature I would certainly welcome. I'd even pay a little extra to have the option. Options are nice. Just saying.

[yesnod]

It gets much more attention than it really should. There are many other aspects of the game that could be enhanced or fixed before focusing on something like this...

CMDR Ex

There should be different HUD for each ship. Since we're stuck with nothing to look at but the inside of the cockpit, a variation from ship-to-ship would be nice. The outsides of the ships are all different, the insides should be as well.
