News Chapter Four - Exploration Reveal

Are we Exploring the galaxy toooooo Fast? as these new ways of doing things sounds like FDev want us to take a day or two realtime to explore a single system

now i jumpinto system Honk then Scan Every Unscanned body then jump to next system i dont even look at the system map for most systems

CMDR Killjoy at your service. Really though, I just hate to see people run forward with higher expectations because I know what that disappointment feels like. [heart]

I knew it seemed too quick. But there's still quite a lot of confusion on several points, so a little more Q&A can't hurt.

Expansion 4 update reveal

Well, I've only been playing Elite 4/5 months now, and apart from trading (as in haulage) and occasionally D scanning "New Astronomical Objects" (and sometimes getting way more than intially 'discovered') haven't really settled on a path yet.
This info looks to be really interesting and promising for the future.
One question though, will this mean no longer having to go through the same procedure 20 or 30 times when dealing with Guardian objects to get keys etc??

I thought this game was centered around "first person in cockpit gameplay" - Why I am I again being taken out of my cockpit to some other screen!!! Why can this not happen IN COCKPIT ... what a load of rubbish. Again.

SRV Turrent - load of rubbish out of cockpit game play
Gunner View - load of rubbish out of cockpit game play
GalMap - load of rubbish out of cockpit game play
SysMap - load of rubbish out of cockpit game play

Now this.... Come on guys! Bring this stuff into the damn cockpit for crying out loud!

While I don't approve of the form, I do approve of the message of this post. Apart from the galaxy map. I quite like that.

What I dislike, as a sometime VR user and immersion junkie, are in-holo 2.5d displays. Please make this new scanner interface a 3d fly-around view, throwing us the orrery bone finally. Previous FD objections to it were along the lines of "It would be cool, but what would it be for?" - well, focusing the scanner array. Squashing a three dimensional start system into a plane is just ewww, anyway.

This could then be merged with the system map to give both a schematic and a realistic layout of the system, and when looking for USS, would give us an idea of if they are efficiently reachable.

Not for space legs then I take it?

Just want to say I’m proud to see the community rallying behind this update and, even in opposition, remaining constructive and respectful.

The Frontier bashing gets really old. You don’t have to agree with any change to the game, but voicing your objection in a well explained and reasonable manner is so much better than being nasty and full of vitriol.

This has nothing to do with the mini-map gameplay vs. the honk, which is what we're talking about here and how those affect exploration.

Sure it does. It shows that exploration could already be done without instant full system reveals. Also felt more engaging imo. Once I unlocked the ADS, it did feel great at first, but only until I realized that it turned something that felt grand into mere ELW and photo op hunting.

Wait what? The honk scan shall no longer reveal the bodies on the map, but I have to 'photograph' (that is literally what was described by the actions you need to perform) each surge in a spectrum in order to get a map?

FDev, do you realise there are players that are not into exploration but prefer the pew pew pew? You are literally forcing each and every user to play your exploration game. Also you tell me, you don't want me to pointlessly SC around, but then force me to fly around to make the surface scans. You just contradicted yourselves in one post.

But yeah. With road to riches being the most profitable type of gameplay and the introduction of a persistent mission server, it was kind of clear that an exploration nerf was coming.

I have a proposal for you FDev: Just cancel any credit payout whatsoever. I am sure all users will enjoy the game then.

I'm told it's carrot week... But don't relax too much, International Stick Month starts soon.

So... you don't want to use the honk. OK...

In the meantime those of us who use the ADS to find our mission objectives in a system we may never have been in get presented with a screen that tells us literally nothing about where our mission objective is without selecting each signal and resolving it, populating the system map one body at a time. OR we go to the nav beacon and scan that. BOTH of which take more time and are more inconvenient that what we have now.
well, Your Statement tells me that Your primary objective in game is not Exploring :)
Guys, please, You PVE, PVP-PewPew Factions and traders got LOADS of improvements during the time since BETA release - let us EXPLORERS, Scientists, Exo-Biologists and -geologists get a step away of the knucklehead barebone as well ;) We didn´t complain the last four years that all improvements were focused on BGS, Combat, Trade etc., so please let us enjoy that FINALLY we get some improvement on OUR type of game as well.....

This just does not look at all fun. Someone brought up the good point - keep the honk as it is now, then add in the stuff on TOP of that. It sounds really cool, but imagine it 1,000's of times for us exploration types. It sounds like it will get boring very quickly.

Not necessarily that. I do want it to be more engaging though. They will need to add more things to scan/find though with the extra effort involved.

Adam just said on stream that they want to increase the reward in some way for the extra time involved and they are paying attention to feedback like yours.

I hadn't expected to be at all interested in the Exploration improvements (since I don't do exploration)...
but it sounds like this will affect other areas of the game, and in a very good way.

So thumbs up!
