Character Creation in Elite: Dangerous

I'd like to see a detailed designed character creator featuring things like the soul calibur series in terms of creating the actual character, Face, Hair, Height, Weight.

But I think it should be a good deal of gear that'll make us stand out. Both civilian clothes for stations and our space suits for when we're on the ships. The clothes and gear should be changeable whenever we want but the character it self should be locked in terms of face, height, weight, skin tone. Hair styles change so that should be like the gear in terms of changeable.

I may be in the minority, but I really get involved with detailed character creators! It doesn't even matter if you don't get to see much of them in-game. The few times I rolled new chars in EVE I spent waaaaaay too much time in the character creator getting my commander just so. And that matters diddly squat in EVE! :D

So yeah... I'm all for a detailed, feature rich character creator. It makes sense given the first person component that is coming.

I'm the same i love character creation. :D Bring it to Elite! :D

Rather than focusing on the looks,it would be good for me to have a backstory /personality character creator I think.Doesnt have to effect gameplay, but gives a nice touch if you aim to play in character.

I've skimmed through this thread and I didn't notice anybody mention APB's character creator - that was pretty amazing and really showed what it's possible for a modern game to achieve, so that'd be the bar I'd hope they aim for. I'm also genuinely curious if we'll be able to make dwarves and elves, since I remember reading somewhere (possibly in the design pdf that's floating around) that people from high gravity planets will be shorter, stockier and tougher whereas people from low gravity worlds will be taller but also thinner and more frail. No mention of whether either of those environments would give you a beard or pointy ears though. :)

One last thought was, will we ever be able to see other pilots while in space? My mate and I parked our ships cockpit to cockpit and the chairs were empty - I can imagine it's a waste of rendering power to include pilots, given that you'll not spot them without mucking about like that but it would be cool to be able to gesticulate at other ships. Probably easier to just tint the windows though.

I would love an EVE online style character creator - for Forum Avatars, chat / transmissions and EVA
In fact the EVE Online character creation really should of been for Elite its almost perfect.

I wonder if they'll let us have blue hair like Aisling Duval. I have a feeling we'd see a lot of blue-haired chicks.

doubt youre in the minority ;) i like to flesh out my char to a good extent too.

I really like the idea of any new character generation system working via procedural generation, so that any control you have would be limited to the generation of the seed and that the end result would ultimately be controlled by the system itself. I can see such a system being able to provide for a huge amount of variation (and keep characters looking realistic and of a unified style) while also not requiring you to spend hours on every little detail. TBH I'm a bit beyond stretching individual cheek bones and positioning eyebrows at this point. Let me pick from fat/thin, man/woman, blond/brunette, etc, and then have the game do the rest (with a 'randomize based on my choices' option if I really don't like what gets returned).

In my opinion would be good if player could to make own avatar only after playing ED for some time (a few weeks, month...).
Then he/she will have some understanding about ED Universe and lore.
This would be needed, if ED will give opportunity to make avatars looks (not very big differences, but still) depending of the choose by players own birth planet (and other own lore).

I guess that many habitable planets in Universe can give their inhabitants some small differences in form, in weight, and so on (after couple generations, what they live there).

I've been a fan of MMO's since UO and then EQ. In my opinion, Character creation is simply a must to immerse yourself into the world created. After all, MMORPG's were meant to mimic the physics of real life when it comes to characters. Even the latest and greatest FPS's have adopted some of these options. I suppose it's an opinion. :) When ED was launched and seeing that we don't have a a character avatar, I was a bit concerned about it all but quickly faded due to knowing and playing the original Elite on the Commodore64. When I saw the first version of Elite for the PC on the shelves, I had to buy it and still own that exact copy today. MCGA graphics I believe? But derailing somewhat.

I personally cannot wait to be able to walk around in stations. I really hope to see customizations such as down to skin level allowing players to change boots, pants, shirts, jackets, flights suits, helmets, gear, etc. Anothing thing is when I saw the vehicles driving around inside, I very much wanted to do that. heh
