Cheating in Elite Dangerous

Do you think it's reasonable for nothing to be done to a publicly available hack after being reported 6 months ago? If the answer to that is "yes" then I'm not really sure why you're here.

Yes. The operative word here is 'publicly'. That is completely unnecessary. Just consider that many of the cheaters may be children. Children have to be handles differently. FD have, over and over again stated that they won;t comment on discilplinary actions. Get over it.

I am here to offer an opinion just like you are.

You yourself posted images of people who use the hacks talking about what Frontier are doing about it.

I'm 100% on board with permabans and hope Frontier can find better technical ways to counter it, but to say nothing is being done is just dishonest.

Don't change the subject please. I asked you how do you feel after contacting support regarding your problem, getting a canned response and don't see any action taken after 6 months?

It is exactly what I would expect. I get those kinds of responses throughout the gaming world when I have made a complaint, or pointed out a probelm. I can report and move on, and I am surprised at just how many peeps can't.

Sure. I mean someone might want to blow up my space pixels. Who wouldn't be worried?
I hate to be the one to break it to you, but cheating isn't the proper solution.

Maybe a public banning would do the community some good.

Because for some this is a bigger problem than for others and for them "move on" would probably mean to a different game.

What do you feel is a reasonable timeframe (if any) to go public with hacks that aren't being punished? 6 months? 1 year? 4 years?

Seems as if the thread is repeating itself and the insults are starting to fly about.

The point of the thread I'd say has been made now and it's proably best if it's closed.

Ok,

Against my better judgement I've been persuaded to reopen the thread.

If however the insults and baiting continues the offenders will be banned from the thread.

Please be polite and constructive from this point on.

Hello everyone,

We take this activity very seriously and, working alongside our development and support teams, are active in taking actions against those who engage with such activities.

We hope you understand that we are not able to share the details of the action actively being taken, or the steps we have in place to tackle the use of these tools, as we do not wish those engaging with this sort of behaviour to circumvent the controls we have in place.

We’ve been reading through all of the feedback you’ve shared. We appreciate your concerns and wanted to take a moment to inform and remind you that the use of cheats, automation software, hacks, mods or any other unauthorized software is strictly prohibited.

Thanks for your understanding.

Obviously it would be rather silly to describe, in any detail, the steps that are being taken to identify people cheating and to prevent them doing so but it would be equally remiss of FDev to ignore concerns of honest players and fail to reassure them that decisive action IS being taken.

It's really easy to say "we're active in taking action..." (the redundancy of that statement notwithstanding) but honest players need assurances that they aren't wasting their time playing a game where they're likely to encounter players who are cheating.
Quietly relying on an algorithm that, perhaps, randomly audits player activity, or targets people who've been reported, doesn't actually reassure honest players that the issue has been solved.

It was the same issue with combat logging for so long. "Yes, we're punishing people" but they actually weren't because we tested them on it twice. Now, they're finally doing stuff about clogging because people doing it in solo/PG are getting warnings for it.

If FDev had credibility in handling stuff like this in the past, it wouldn't have gotten beyond the report stage.

The problem is the issue will never be fully resolved. Rockstar has the same problem in GTA V - despite their very draconian If you Cheat, you are banned, no questions asked, appeal-denied approach.

Because this isn’t a game problem.
It’s a People Problem.

We outlawed murder, plenty of inmates are sent to their own executions annually. This has not stopped people from committing murder either.

It’s a People Problem, and there simply is no way to fix people. If there were, you’d all be sending me $1.00.

Probably this has been here already, but one thing I think has influence in Open even if it is done originally in solo mode. Some cheats allow getting engineering mats. And your ship is same across the modes. No more work to get what you need, insta-engineered ships. And that is rather unfair against those doing it the hard way.

Do you know what the likelihood of being murdered is?
Do you know how likely it is that a murderer will be apprehended?
Do you know what process is involved in prosecuting a murderer?
Do you know what happens to convicted murderers?
Do you feel relatively safe living in a society with the current murder rate?

All this information, and more, IS available to you so that you can assess how well the police and justice system deal with murderers and then form an opinion about whether or not you're happy about the risks associated with murder in your society.

You see the analogy, right?

Being a console pleb these cheating hacks dont affect me direclty but indirectly they do. I like doing powerplay activities but ive gotten to the point of why bother with it when theres known bots and auto scripts that make it impossible to get anywhere.

Whats funny is all the people that say dont interfere with my playstyle yet didnt care or yet said power play is dead just stop doing it when this was brought up months ago. So much for, dont mess with my playstyle.

These hackers and cheater need to be dealt with and just out right banned. But the only real way to stop all of this is to just go console only.
