Chieftan Only For Alliance CMDRs

Your entitled to your opinion!

Yeah, fits somewhere between my Vulture and Python, but ultimately too sluggish in supercruise for me to bother with. Came to the conclusion that I'd rather just use those ships for their advantages. I might use the Chieftain as a mission runner or gatherer for materials, but we'll see.

OP might be glad to know that I got my Vulture from Irkutsk in Alioth.

Hear hear!

Might I suggest that to buy the Chieftain the Commander must, at the very least, be pledged to the Alliance four weeks and have a permit for Alioth. Also, as the Chieftain is an Alliance initiative, it should only be available in said system.

The time of the Alliance has come.

the only thing faction locks achieve is a bunch of faction hoppers...

Having it available only in Alliance permit locked systems and Jameson Memorial would seem like a fair compromise to me.

I don't do any of the naval ranks in the game as I play as an independent pilot. Kind of a shame it's an otherwise useless "RP" choice in the game.

Impound all Corvettes of CMDRs who help other factions / harm Federal factions. ;)

To be fair, every single Commander who has a Corvette worked their way through the Federation ranks, grinding missions away just like any other Federation person. All the Alliance would ask for is that Commanders from other factions be prepared to do the same to earn this ship.

The Alliance does not need to ape the federation apes! All that macho navy crotch grabbing nonsense doesn't appeal to me in the slightest. We were forced to infiltrate the navy to steal their ships to use against them. Their security is bloody awful. So youre Mahon pledged, have run a million missions for the Alliance and destroyed a billion fed ships in CZ's? you're just the kinda guy we need as an Admiral. Also here's your permit to our sensitive areas.

If the Alliance is to get some structure it should be a unique one.

All this said, hopefully the chieftain is only a taste of what's to come in terms of Alliance ships. If the Alliance is ever going to break into the big 3 (4) then it should probably be rank locked. Seems unreasonable to have a warship caparable to the Corvette/Cutter just available to any player with credits. I realise the Anaconda does a pretty good job and rank isn't really that hard to grind if you do it right but you know what I'm getting at.

I would hope that there'd be no rank lock for any Alliance ship. Alliance shouldn't "have" any official ships, they were supposed to make use of what's already available amongst their highly-skilled veteran merchant-marine fleet with the advantage of no bureaucracy allowing them to outmaneuver the other fleets and attack them piecemeal or anticipate and set up effective ambushes like guerrilla fighters, allowing them to hit way above their weight class and ensure some sovereignty for the skilled veteran pilots they attract who are disillusioned with the other powers and bring their Cores and Guts.
Nope, just another navy. Third choice, same deal. Why?

Right up there with telepresence, another huge disappointment to please those who just can't do without the trilateral symmetry. This whole update seems to be trying to make everything taste the same.
At least the Chieftain is a decent ship, if a little awkward in construction. It'll fit right in with the FAS.

The whole premise of this thread would be that there's a reason for the "rank system" to exist in the first place- specifically in regard to the "big 3 factions".

As it stands currently- there isn't... so it's really a pointless speculation. FD will need to make it meaningful in some way (exclusion or not) in order to facilitate a reason to do make Alliance vessels exclusive- as they've already started to introduce them without exclusion. Hell, excluding other rank-locked ships behind an arbitrary "faction wall" currently is already pointless in and of itself.

The problem isn't the ships. The problem isn't really the Faction system, either. It's that there's no definitive game play reasons for the Factions to really even exist except for lore purposes.

You go Federation, there's still no restriction to buying Imperial ships, docking at Imperial Stations, taking on missions, and vice versa. If it were implemented as a restricted system of some sort there would be incentive to "choose a side", and with the lack of such incentives there's really no point in doing so with the Alliance, either. Only difference right now is that the Alliance doesn't have a mission-system unlock path for rank-walling ships. (yet)

I believe you should only be able to pledge to 1 faction at a time. If you want to grind for a Vette you should be completely demoted as an Empire soldier. You should be able to keep all ships once obtained but being ranked in both the Fed and Imp navy seems ridiculous.

Even though my preferred fleet is often a mix of Federation and Alliance ships, it would be really cool if faction alignment meant something.

Given that it doesn't though, I don't think more locks really serve any purpose.

Instead, I propose locking the Chieftain to only CMDR's who's names also begin with the letter "C". ;)

It's not the actual Navy though, it's all honorary titles in a naval auxiliary. Kind of like how knighthoods or various orders are handled today. If you get an OBE, you're not expected - or allowed - to lead troops into battle in Afghanistan.

It's like KFC's Colonel Sanders.

Idea for a way of keeping the riff raff from buying the Alliance Chieftain: FDev and the AEDC should work together on building some sort of a counter. How many systems purchasing CMDR has flipped over to Alliance control. Make it a reasonable number, like 5, but it has to be full control. In other words all stations in the system, not this half-baked sort of flipping where you do one station and call it day.

No ETAs, No Guarantees!

Just a note though, there are many Alliance groups and CMDRs working hard at ensuring the galaxy has a healthy green glow!

this topic is basicly saying: mine mine mine and you cant have it.

no wonder the alliance got so few ships, you guys a greedy bunch!
at least we feds and imps know how to share our toys :)
