Clipper and Cutter

Clipper is ok for piracy - or for any half-baked combat role that requires some cargo space.
But for pure combat, Mamba kinda dwarfed it since it was introduced.

Why are they both large sized hulls? Is there any reason to keep the Clipper once you get the Cutter? It would make sense if it were a medium hull for landing at outposts...but its not. I don't get it. Why make them both large hulls?
The large hull for the Clipper is annoying as hell. Should definitely be medium imho.

But the Clipper flies way, WAY better than the Cutter (the Cutter flies like a wet ice cube on a frozen pond). I find the Clipper to be a very nice exploration ship because of this, plus you can get 50LY+/Jump out of it with some engineering and the Guardian FSD booster.

Ask Gutyamaya. That's how big they made them.

They are very different ships though and i'd use them for different things. Clipper is great for fast and manouverable flight and plenty of internals. Good for a wide range of activities from mining to couriering data and quite decent for combat where you want to control the engagement. Cutter is good to be used for... erm... blocking station slots? No idea, never wanted one. Takes a week to come to a stop.

Since no one explained that...

Because FDEVs ff.... messed up with dimensions. They designed Clipper as a MEDIUM pad ship, done all the modelling, flight characteristic, maneuverability, stats. Job done, implemented and... it turned out external dimensions (mostly nacelles) are TOO WIDE for a M-pad.

Simply put - it doesn't fit M-pad.

Houston, we may have a problem here. Remodel? Resize? Naah, just slap L-pad restriction. There, fixed. All because wing tips are few centimeters too far.

Many. Despite being L-size ship she handles incredibly well (mostly due to being M-sized in stats). It's pure joy to fly her. I, for example, made Bubble-Colonia journey in a Clipper. Having a Cutter doesn't make Clipper unusable - you just need to find it's niche.

Not convinced it is that.

Orca is perfectly fit in the Medium pad, with plenty of room to spare.
Still it requires a Large pad.

Clipper dimensions: 106.7 x 103.7 x 24.8
M-pad dimensions: 150 x 90
L-pad dimensions: 213 x 128

As Clipper fits in length it doesn't fit in width. Bit more than my previous statement but still it's nearly 14m too wide to fit. Other dimensions, flight characteristics - all say Clipper is M-pad ship that due to physical design is set as L-pad only.

Just a quick comparison plus what I heard.

It was overpowered pre-engineers. The pad limit is like the offcentre cockpit in the FDL, got to have some rough with the smooth.

As I have said in previous posts..the Clipper may have limited use but fully engineered it is devastatingly fast and agile for its size and can easily cause NPC Condas and others serious issues. And for crying out loud it sounds and looks good.
I am running mine fully engineered with 640 boost 41ly jump 1500 shield and some unpleasantly engineered weapons. It may not be "perfect" but its a hoot to fly and fight with.

I didn't contested the Clipper dimensions, i contested your reasoning.

It is a large ship as much as a T7 is a large ship. And i really think it was on purpose

Pretty much like Orca's constrains for Large pads, my guess it was related to its Liner status.
But when they removed the passenger cabin restrictions, they should have dropped the Large pad requirement
