Coaster Friction

I am ecstatic that a friction slider is going to be implemented. [big grin] :pc::blue: I competely agree with Joel that a checkbox in the settings for this would be great. (I always use the no ride breakdown cheat, but it does get annoying when you open the game to always have to put the cheat code in again. I usally forget & then all the rides tend to break down quick smart.) I'm not really into the security side or the ride reputation so I'm really happy that I can just go to settings and switch these off permanently. I'm hoping adjustable friction could be implemented in a similar way.

But that aside, thank you so much Frontier for putting this feature in the game!!! [big grin]

So, you get the thing, then you complain about implementation?
Seriously?
[bored]

It's more that we want to help improve the game. Yes, the friction slider should be a great addition and it's something many of us have wanted for a while, but critiquing its implementation is not the same thing as complaining. Suggesting it should be a tickbox in settings because of its usefulness and because making it a cheat feels cheaty is different than saying that Frontier isn't listening to us, we wanted a friction slider as a setting not a cheat, I'm refunding my game! The second example was a bit extreme, but I hope I made my point.

As someone who has been wanting at the very least low friction, I have to agree w/ Bitter Jeweler. Come on...we're getting a friction slider--exactly what so many people wanted--and that's not enough...now we need a box in the options? I'm all for scrutinizing decisions and expecting open communication, but when you get exactly what you've been harping on and you still complain, you look bad. I'm sorry.

Yeah I don't see any complaining, just suggestions. Sometimes it looks like you guys just want to pick a fight with each other.

Amazing news. I too think a checkbox would be better than a cheat code. And that's not a complaint, just a suggestion about implementation. [big grin]

Thanks alot Frontier for listening to the community. [heart] I cannot wait to make long wooden coasters now.

+1 [mouth shut]

Our community should be rejoicing and celebrating Frontier's continued interaction and support of such a great simulation game! I know I am. [big grin]

I personally thank Frontier for continuing to listen to us and implement yet another FREE feature.

Now my Geauga Lake/Six Flags WOA recreation will contain much more realistic wooden layouts!

Much love to Frontier. [heart]

Chems and breezerHog are the most unsatisfied users here. Why can't you just be happy with what you've got? Critism is okay, but permanent moaning isn't. The Friction-Slider isn't currently just announce and not released yet, no-one of us has seen how it works as long a few testers and and you moan again about cheat codes etc. after a short touch of hype.

Please consider NOT putting it in as a cheat code but as a menu setting. It is a enormous hassle to rename a guest, especially if you work in a closed park to save FPS! Also having to do it every time you play..

great news! Thank you very much for that and your dedication and again listening to the community!
Honestly I would prefer as well if it wasn't a cheat code but a possibility to set in the settings (on/off slider or check box would be amazing).

Again thanks a lot Frontier!

No one was complaining, just giving suggestions as to how this could be implemented.

It looks like a misunderstanding. I am in no way complaining about the new friction slider that can be enabled with a cheat. I find it great that Frontier continues to listen to the community and that they have decided to give us a way to change the friction on coasters.

As shown in the video and as explained by Zac (and developers in the past), coaster friction in Planet Coaster is accurate to real life coaster friction. It is known that Frontier wants coasters and other rides in Planet Coaster to resemble their real life counterparts. This is most likely why Frontier has chosen for a set of cheat codes, because you will be 'cheating' with conditions that are not possible in real life, such as changing/disabling friction, disabling/increasing break downs, changing the security guard physics to name a few.

What I am suggesting is a check box in the settings for enabling/disabling the friction slider; not meant as a complaint against the current plan for a cheat code, but merely an idea to increase usability / ease of use. A check box can be enabled/disabled and it's state will be saved throughout the game; something which seems easier than having to input a cheat code each time you load a park.

Once again, I want to thank Frontier for their support for a friction slider and I am very happy that they have considered this addition based on feedback from the amazing community!

I will be happy with whatever way Frontier chooses to implement the friction slider, and my previous post was just an idea to increase ease of use. :)

This is pretty cool.

It's not something I will use very often unless I come across no alternative way to get my train to the end of the track. I generally don't make real life recreations so have not really noticed much of a problem with friction. There have been occasions where I thought momentum was lost rather quickly but have worked around that by tweaking the track a little here or there.

I have one burning question I would love to hear a little nerdy information about. Multiple coaster stations. I heard that its too difficult to implement and that you guys are not entertaining the idea. I would love to know why it's too hard to implement as I'm struggling to see any reason that it would be impossible unless you have coded yourself into a corner.

If multiple stations were allowed I would expect each station to have its own EFN rating. The rating would be for the section of track between stations. Clicking on a station would bring up the settings for that station and show the EFN values for the track up to the next station. Each station can have its own price and would be cool to have an option to use it as a transport ride if desired.

Essentially a coaster would be split into multiple rides, one per station. As you programmed RCT3 I would expect it work exactly like it did in RCT3. Why is it impossible to do in PC? It was such a good feature that added so many possibilities to coaster creation.

Thanks for the nerdy info, I could read stuff like that all day!

Limitless creativity

With that in mind though, we do understand that some of you would like to have the freedom to be able to create anything your imagination will allow. That is why we have developed a new slider which (when using the cheat code) will allow you to select your own friction on a coaster and create any manner of coaster experience you want. When you save the coaster as a blueprint the slider will remain saved and will be visible for others to use. This will be coming in a future update.

I hope that helps.

This is Excellent, and a thing that I've been waiting since the begining of the game.
I can't wait the next update....wich is when??[big grin]

100% agrreing with this.

Is also sad that when is time to criticise people are fast and post a million things, but when something is done well, and perfectly capture the "Frontier is hearing us" we dont give the very deserved thank you as fast, and even then some people are still not happy.
Its completely undertandable why they made it a cheat
1. Ive already seen a lot of opinions of some casual players that dont even want to see that option becuase it would confuse them. It baffles me why would that happen, but its how they think and Frontier has to cater to them also.
2. They still are standing in their idea of the friction they have in the game is similar to the real stuff, as much as a lot of really well done recreations by the community do not get to the station. This means that they see this change in friction as a cheat to make impossible things, and not as an option.

While I would like to have it as an option under the same menu as scenery doesnt collide with rides, i dont mind having it as a cheat (that they even have worked out as permanent in each coaster), and I completely undertand why they decided it to be a cheat instead of an option.

So in summary, there is a time and place for contructive criticism, but I dont think this is the time and place.

Great news, always felt that my coasters loosed speed a bit too fast[wink].This will be great for recreations[yesnod].Thanks to the whole team for implementing another so much wanted feature[up][heart].

I highly doubtful it's going to be a name of a person you are going to have to change for the cheat since you can choose what coasters you want it to happen on, how would that even work by putting in a name on one person?

It's going to be like the go karts cheat where you change the ride name aka your check box

I assumed that the friction slider would be "locked" upon starting the game and you rename your peep to unlock it across the park. And then once you save and exit, the friction slider is locked at whatever it was set at. I could be 100% wrong. If it were renaming the coaster, would that mean, essentially, every coaster in your park has the same name?

Seems it could be renaming the coaster, the slider appears, change the name of your coaster back, the slider still saves with the coaster.
Is actually similar to how the james taylor cheat works with guests, but just permanent and individual. When you rename a guest James Taylor the friction affects the whole park, changing the name of that guest back still gets you the same friction, until you load the save again when the friction just resets to its normal parameters.

We can both be happy AND make suggestion to make this feature even better. This is a forum, so everything you read here should be read without reading emotions. Something may come over as complaining when it isn't meant that way at all.

Hiding it behind a cheat code is just a small annoyance, hence people ask Frontier to not implement it that way.

I hope we can unlock it by naming a coaster.
