Maybe I'm reading too much into this but I was REALLY happy to hear the last new ship was the CM5 because I like small ships and because I figured that if FDev were giving us a snazzy new small ship it might be because Colonisation is going to require us to use small ships.... and then they go and announce it's a medium ship. 🫤

I mean, it looks great, and if it'll do the same jobs as a Krait I'll happily fly one but when you look at all the superb medium-pad ships we've already got, you have to wonder if it was really necessary.

Course, OTOH, with the benefit of hindsight, the last new ship of an anniversary year really had to be a Cobra.

Cobra MkV looks good from those early pics … I assume it will be on the smaller side for a medium pad ship and not trouble the Python or Krait Mk II for internal space … maybe similar to Phantom? scaling the weapons up to 2 medium / 2 large would make sense vs the weapons on the small Cobras, I think. Or 3 medium / 2 large would give it some real teeth but make the FAS look even more ridiculous …

I wonder if the Cobra V is a sign that player colony settlements outside the Bubble will at least have a medium pad. Come to think of it, the Mandalay is also a medium ship 😁

With all the joking/speculating around a Cobra MKV I was a bit ambivalent, thinking if it came it would be little more than an offering for those who felt aggrieved at never getting their hands on a MkIV.

My opinion no longer holds. That is a pretty ship, on top of that it’s got a new cockpit which I’m so delighted about. A Cobper…a Vipbra? It certainly looks like it could offer a wonderful mix of what I love about both the Cobra and Vipers whilst adding some of what I wished they had. Including….the Mandalay’s ‘foot window.’

There’s an awful lot of information to come and questions arising from this reveal but Colonization and PP2.0 looks like they could really add some life to both the Galaxy and the game.

I really hope they manage to pull this off in a way that really reinvigorates sci-fi loving gamers who may have overlooked Elite or left. I hope to see a hive of activity in the not too distant future.

I and lots of others have been suggesting a Cobra mkV as a counter to all the unlock the Cobra mkIV calls for years, of course we were merely suggesting a clone with a new name not a new super ship.

Of course this will not stop those calls.

yes but what about small ships ? are all sco ships gonna be mediums ? really love the design, its by far the coolest shipd yet but i was hoping the next update would bring more small ship focused gameplay with an sco small ship to go along with it
the 10th anniversary would be a nice day to drop the mk4 along with the mk5, lets keep on dreamin :p

This is a ship built to handle the SCO drive well right? From the looks of it, the Cobra Mk5 should be aerodynamic in atmospheric planets. Just like the Mandalay.

And the new colonization feature will probably be taking place in ELWs - which will have atmospheres as well.

Hmmm .. 🤔

My guess was right after all. That 4th ship would be an multirole.

Cobra 5? Long if it wont be slow as Cobra 4 is, then it might be fine ship indeed.
