Codex = Achievements

The most stupid thing about the “personal narrative” was the smug dismissal of when everyone immediately called unlocks not being narrative.. as if they were superior and knew we didn’t know what was coming.. yet a year later personal narrative is still weapon unlocks. Remember the livestream?

Sorry I was supposed to be disengaging from frontier. I know. We actually believed them too.

Didn't say exploration would be dropped. Didn't say it would all be rubbish. Is your English transaction program working?

You implied. Simple as that. If that was not what you were saying, then phrase is better.

Personally I wait and see before passing judgement instead of jumping to conclusions without any knowledge to back it up.

I also do not like the way tech brokers and the "personal narrative" works. It's bad.

so..
actually its more like
personal narrative = Achievements
Codex = the ingame UI that has the Achievements and the logs we currently only can see on INARA or similar tools.

i know that many of you dont like Achievements for whatever reason, but i would love love to see them

Nothing wrong with achievements and lore, but I also want the Codex to be part of the exploration game-play loop. The Codex could give us breadcrumb trails to follow and eventually discover new things.

Like using your probes on a planet and you find a crashed ship. You land and take out your SRV and scan the ships computer. You discover they were attacked by pirates while hunting for an ancient alien structure. Your Codex gets updated and you get a hint about the previous system they were in. You jump to that system and probe the planets in this system and eventually find out what they discovered and so it goes on.

I just want the Codex to be integrated into the exploration game-loop.

As for JW codex, then it might be along *similar* lines but there's a whole wealth more stuff in ED that could be leveraged other than a few tidbits about dinos.

Elite Dangerous has a wealth of things which could be leveraged into a Codex, but just because there is potential does not mean Frontier will utilize it. Elite has tons of seemingly obvious potential for gameplay which never seems to be taken advantage of, even the seemingly easy low hanging fruit.

I expect this new Codex to go live as a much simpler and more basic feature than most people want it to be. For no other reason than Frontier's historical feature implementation points to that conclusion.

To me that sounds like exactly what they intend it for or something very similar as well as discovèries which could lead to otger discoveries and maybe achievements as well.

I did expressly use the word "could".

:)

Could you share where you heard that? I have heard almost nothing about Codex and really don't know what it is.

That it will hold some information about your discoveries - it was already said. However FD have implied this information will be then used as you wish for other parts of gameplay.

codex is going to be something like huge wiki inside the game, i seen it somewhere in relevant post but cant remember

Seems a presumptive to complain about something and then say "let's wait and see". Surely the other way round is better?

*Sigh* Didn't say "let's wait and see"; post says let's check back on this poster's theory that great things, great new content is still coming in the Q4 release. Let's see if that's true - FDev haven't said exactly what is coming in any great detail yet which itself tells us something.

bringing this back up,
since the Codex is now out, and i am a bit confused

Achievements are something i know for many games as something like a checklist, where i can see what can be done and what have i done, sometimes even revealing things i could do that i would never think about trying out if there was not that achievement for it.

now the middle part of the Codex, the "Discoveries" part looks exactly like that for me.
I had expected that at least the thargoid and guardian section would fill up with all the discovered locations from all commanders over time -> but as it seems there will be just ONE per sector

am i doing something wrong? whats the point of just listing the first every "reported" location there to everyone?

I think that Frontier did not understand what people wanted from the Codex.
They should take a look at the 3rd party sites and apps people use, then get to work on implementing what people actually feel is missing in the game.
