So, I'm halfway back to the bubble, in my Asp Explorer. Reason I'm not taking a FC is that the scheduled one runs after the one going to Rackham's Peak from the bubble, which I want to catch.
Everything was going fine, and I'd avoided the star collisions which chip away at a ship's health in a moment of distraction. I wasn't at all distracted, mid-jump and fuel-scooping, when I noticed sparks on the dashboard. I steered away from the sun, but now modules were taking damage. I hit supercruise, twice, to see if I'd inadvertently turned it on, but no charging symbol was visible. Silent running didn't seem to be the issue either, though in hindsight, I can't say 100% that I checked if my shields were on, and the problem wasn't keyboard/cat related. Finally, I saw no other alternative but to log out, taking the 15 seconds hit.
Logging in again, my ADC and SC Assist were fried, with FSD at 70%. SCA came back with a reboot, not that I need it unless I want to scan a secondary star, or planet. Short of continuing to limp back to the bubble, very carefully, I now need repairs.
Which takes me back to the topic of the Colonial Bridges, and being able to find them. I had to go into the Black in the first place because of not being able to find Colonia Bridge for that first 'rung', which would apparently allow me to find all the other ones. This, and my current predicament, has persuaded me that a better analogy for the Colonial Bridge project is not a ladder, but... a bridge.
See, a bridge, in essence, is a static device that makes travel over a hostile, potentially life-threatening terrain, much safer. It's pretty much the gold standard for health and safety. No need for warnings on its use. You have an entrance, an exit and a middle span, which are safe to use (any slipping hazards would be down to bad construction), and barriers which prevent anyone but the most determined from climbing over the sides.
The one thing you never have to do [is] take a running leap to get onto the bridge in the first place, which is where the CB project fails. No-one says there needs to be a Bridge station in Alcor or Colonia, but the directions for the stations need to start in those systems, not on CB-1 or CB-56.
None of this would be an issue, of course, if the stations/stars along the route came up with a search, but here's the thing, and it may be a problem unique to my computer, which doesn't help me. If I type 'Eol Prou ' (with the space at the end) into the box, I get a hundred or so addresses in the drop down, all of which continue with 'AA', with a recommendation to narrow my search. However, if I type 'GE-A', or just 'G', or even 'AA', I get 'No Results Found'. So I cannot use the search box to find a Bridge station, and for whatever reason, my screen resolution is [so] bad that trying to track down a specific address on the galaxy map just gives me eyestrain.
As suggested above, this would probably be easier in Horizons, but with the controller I'm currently using, I'd have to reset everything, which is too much hassle, with no guarantee of a good outcome. I'd ask, when will Odyssey show us carriers on the gal map, because at least I could keep an eye out for a DSSA carrier, but it's clear that as I've just entered the Temple region, the two closest carriers are barely nearer than the bubble.
So I just have to ask, am I the only one getting this problem? Are others finding the bridge stations useful, at this stage, or do you need to have visited those first 'rungs' to get the ball rolling?
