Color variation comparison thread

So has anyone started a color variation comparison thread yet? If not, let's start one here!

You can share different variations of the same species here, so we can admire and compare them :)

I haven't played around with a lot of animals today yet, only llamas and wolves. With wolves I saw 2 distinct variations (red/brown and grey/brown) and with llamas I saw brown, black, and white/creme with brown spots in at least 4 different patterns. I'll take screenshots later this evening.

I can't wait to see these! I can't submit any, since I believe I need to have a linked Imgur or similar account, but I really want to see other people's.

I got dingos! The mother has grey fur and the father has yellow brown fur. The babies both resemble the father with a white mark on their necks. The variation update is so cool. I love it.

This is the mother (grey fur) and her newest baby Matilda.

This is the dad (darker brown) and their first offspring Hugo which has a lighter fur. Notice the faint white patch on his neck area? He got that from his dad.

And here is Matilda with the same white patch.

This update is SO COOL.

Cool to see the difference!

@Indoraptor27, I think the images need to be less than 1MB to upload. I had the same issue, but when I reduced the size of my images, they uploaded just fine.

Alright, here are the two variants of wolves I've seen. It appears to me that the color names are attached to the wrong coat colors, as you'll notice:

"Red and brown with dark markings" on the left (the grey wolf) and "Grey and brown with dark markings" on the right (the reddish wolf).

I've bred a few wolves now and they all have one of these two coat colors. It makes me wonder if there are also wolves with 'light markings' or 'medium markings' as opposed to 'dark markings'.

I just wanted to post something like this. I also noticed that on my wolves.
But also my darker brown bear is labelled as "chocolate" while my lighter brown bear is labelled as "black-brown".

So, no black wolves ?
I don't think so. I wonder if we only have these red/brown and grey/brown wolves or if there is more variation. After all, they listed wolves as having major color variation, just like llamas. Llamas do seem to have lots of combos with their spotting, and they come in at least solid brown and solid black as well. There are probably more color possibilities than the llamas I've shown above.

But the wolves, I don't know. I like the reddish color, it does look different from the greyish color. But are these two colors all we got for this 'major variation' animal? If other people can breed lots of wolves and take pics for comparison, please share them! :)

I'm curious about llama patches, are there just a lot of varieties, or did they actually figure out how to create randomly generated patterns?

I think it's the first, lots of varieties. As you can see, some spot shapes are recurring on different animals, so I think there is a mechanism that pulls from X number of different spotting shapes and mixes them together.

I really hope that it is possible to breed them selective to get completely white Llamas. I do already have a few Llamas on my Farm that are almost completely white and only have a few small brown Spots on the Legs

So I was playing around with this with hyenas of all things, because they seem to have a surprising amount of variation, and more surprisingly, the game seems to have slighter variations even amongst those colors.

This hyena is pretty obviously gray, and in game she is referred to as "Gray with brown spots."

I bred her with this male, described by the game as "Sandy with brown spots" to see how the cubs would come out.

So here's the interesting part about the cubs: Neither match their parents' colors perfectly, and in fact closer resemble each other, but the game says they're also different colors from each other. I can't really discern a difference, but apparently there is one, which implies that there's not hard set color morphs for each animal, but rather a range of colors that can be accessed by random chance or by breeding different morphs together.

Furthermore, the cubs are also proof that there's a small amount of inheritance in markings. My friend pointed out to me that Ameena had a different marking set on her hind leg compared to her sibling. I went ahead to check if this was true with the parents. The parents, as it happens, have different patterns on their upper bodies, but shared a pattern on their hind legs (both cubs share the same upper body pattern with their mother, but only Barika has the same lower leg pattern. Ameena has a different pattern to the others though a male hyena I acquire after had this same pattern). It seems they've at least divided the patterns up into sections on different parts of the body now that the game mixes and matches, probably taking into account the patterns of the parents. It's not quite fully randomized and unique patterns, but it's a step in the right direction.
