That way everyone will be wrong in some way and this guy still has to eat his sock.
He raises some good points but if you only read one comment read the one by chris5281, nails it for me.
Sir, prepare thy sock!

They are going to whack the Emperor next week, so it might be new Imperial I-Ships.![]()
The title is taken directly from this weeks newsletter. Colossal is a pretty big word. I'll admit to getting a bit jittery.
What is it? Apparently it's pretty big?...

I am beginning to think it may be PLs but I HOPE it is improvements to the core game, such as AI crew to give us some micro management and stuff like that. We already know about the better mission generators so that is fab.
Just to be different, I am gonna say getting out of our seat and walking about our ship.

For the umpteenth time: Much as many of us would love it to be those sorts of things, you don't announce those at a major show. You want to announce something big (perhaps even colossal), preferably shiny and full of bling. You are trying to sell something big for the mags to report about and to attract new players. Saying: "You know the background sim we said we had, well, we have done a pile of work and now it does what we have been saying it does since release" just doesn't work.
They have ruled out going walkies. They have said it is PC/Mac, which rules out PS4 (though I still expect that for Christmas). Based on what they have said, it seems likely to either be something from out of left field (as powerplay and CQC were), or the announcement of the first phase of the first expansion: almost certainly planetary landings. Given that I already know they are working on the expansions, I would prefer it to be something else that I do not know about. Well, as long as it is something I want, and they are 0/4 on that thus far if I include CQC.
But I fully expect it to be phase 1 of planetary landings.
"We are going to break Solo and Open Modes apart, and put Power Play into Open-Only".

As I said with recent things i have read I ALSO think it will be PLs now.... I am just trying to come up with something different.![]()
Unless...maybe it's passenger missions served up in a similar form to Tokyo Bus Guide on the Dreamcast. How awesome would that be? Landing your Orca, people get on and you see their scary procedurally generated faces staring back at you through lifeless eyes. Then they speak, talking of their irritating lives and feelings.
That's the root of the hype train. We aren't aware of a single other feature element that can be described as "colossal" requiring "most of the team" to be working on it for "some time".
I think Frontier should "announce" Plandings even if they haven't done an iota of work on them.
David Braben should live stream himself saying "Yes, planetary landings and all that is coming."
Behind him Michael Brookes should pull a small unimpressive party popper.
As the colourful paper floats to the ground we'll hear Braben's final words "We're working really hard on that. So see you soon bye now. The announcement is over".

The forums will react with the same spontaneous disappointment either way.
No, we don't. But then we were not aware of powerplay either.
That 'most of the team' quote is the one thing that can be used to argue against it being planetary landings. Of course, FD ambiguous speak can be very hard to second guess. But we do know that there is a separate team for expansions (because, essentially, they expect them to eventually be pretty much 'whole game' sized). So if I was to assume the statement was not ambiguous - they we could read it at face value - then that would appear to rule out it being planetary landings, too. Of course, they might have shifted resources from 'core' E: D dev to expansion dev. If that is the case then there will be an eruption of anger from the big, loud, group of players that want them to finish what they have already started but left incomplete before adding new stuf.
Those idiots can keep screaming. I don't get why people think they are mutually exclusive. Expansions usually come with huge updates to the main game, and are typically worked on as a whole package.
