Colossal announcement at Gamescom in two weeks' time

I hope it is the much anticipated Ship/Station/Outpost 1st person walkabout feature. As a DLC if need be and they need to fill up their coffers some more.

Planetary Landings would be nice, but without 1st person implemented, it'd be just the same as docking at stations only with a nicer and (hopefully) more varied view. Doing planets right will require a lot of work, whereas 1st person should be slightly easier. At least on the coders, though the 3D artist department may disagree...

I am hoping for planetary landings, but David did say landing on moons would come first and then planets. I can't see 2 expansions though so one would cover both. So my thought we get to land on airless bodies first and later a 'free' upgrade to planets as that will be more complicated to make sure their is enough variation that no 2 look like the same locations. The basics on all will be the same just a totally different layout each time so it 'looks' new. As for how to do it seamlessly my guess you approach a planet, drop out of supercruise and activate planetary landing cruise drive. Remember humanity has been landing on planets for centuries so they have the technology down. So it isn't anything new but actually very old technology compared to the supercruise and hyper jump engines. So you pop out near the planet and now it is all seamless down to land. As for taking off, again your ship has more thrust then it knows what to do with, it will be a steady climb up and pick up speed as you go, a planetary cruise drive at many times the speed of sound to get around quickly.
.
Well at least one can hope it is that.

Hear Hear. Elite is going to start aging fast if FD doesn't keep up with the changes coming in tech.

Got my recorder ready for if they announce player owned stations and territory. The sobbing, wailing and tears from the anti-Eve crowd will be too sweet to simply listen to once and let fade away. That needs to go on an infinite loop for my undying pleasure.

And at the same time I'll be walking away from the game because it'd mean that they completely abandoned the original roadmap and we can expect nothing originally lined out in the DDA's to happen.

Yeah it's easy to upset you 'Windy'...

Again, finishing what exists is typically part of making an expansion, unless you're incompetent. If content in an expansion relies on finished content in the base game, and it usually does, you finish that first. The reason those bits of the game probably got pushed off until the expansion is because it made more fiscal sense to work on them at the same time and make sure they mesh well, rather than doing it once and having to completely revamp it again when the expansion is being worked on because of unforeseen conflicts. So... If you expected something to be done 3-6 months ago and it got mysteriously pushed out for "reasons", this is probably that reason.

Good observation, Ive' also thought this; tsk tsk....So this being a fine thought, means your a 'hard chargin' fine thinker...

Well.... on the ED reddit, there was a hint that it might be planetary landings, or at least the first parts of it. If that is indeed the case then they should really also implement limited 1st person walking around so that it's not just another dock you have to land at while doing your business without leaving the cockpit.

It will probably be that they are switching away from Amazon to Microsoft servers, you will need to sign up to a Microsoft account, the game will run on Windows 10 only, and all purchases and updates need to be done through the Microsoft store :p.

It has already been confirmed it will not be FPS by devs (lavecon)

If this is a DLC it will be planetary.

If this is not a DLC it will be a surprise.

+ prior elite games offered planetary landing without FPS.

None of the above.

In reality, Frontier Development did build a real spaceship (Anaconda size) and will leave earth to find themselve a new planet to market their game - a planet with a more optimistic, grateful and less cynical player base.

Ergo none of us are invited.

You got a link?

Besides, 'game breaker' sounds like they're about to break my game. PowerPlay initially gave me that feeling, but luckily it's pretty isolated from the rest of the game.

The announcement will be the release of a new PP character.

nah, it´s a new commodity to trade

It could be the announcement of Inter-galatic Hyperdrive module. That would be colossal.

sssuuurre... because the one thing the game needs is a couple hundred billion more randomized star system instances, bravo

(no, that was sarcasm)

I think the size of space is big enough, thanks. Waiting for big gameplay announcements instead
