Combat Logging

Well, the more rabid ganker types will start screaming that anything other than dying is CLogging. Just asking the question is going to get you accused of being a CLogger and likely added to their little reddit KoS list.

Be sure your forum shields are fully A rated and engineered, you're going to need them. :D

They can add me to any list they want, won't change how much sleep I get at night. I don't care about CL and personally think it is a waste of time to worry about it. I lose power a lot in the winter living out in the boonies....am I a CL when my internet drops during bad weather? Or when I need to attend to something immediately.

I have said this before in another thread....I reserve the right to log out of the game at anytime for any reason....it is just a game, they need to get over themselves.

True (and justifiably so if they're doing it deliberately to get out of combat) but it isn't, technically, cheating if FDev say it isn't.

It's kind of a loop-hole really, FDev have deliberately left it in there so they can try and keep all sides of the argument in a kind of disgruntled balance. But really it's no better than cheating in the eyes of most PvP-focused players, given as the end result is the same.

I'd personally be less hostile to the concept of menu logging if:

A) The timer was longer, say 30 seconds
B) A system notification alerted all players in the instance that the player in question was logging out, much like how we get alerted to friends coming online/going-offline (this would only apply to normal space scenarios excluding stations so we don't get spammed while docked)

But what if you 'Menu' log before any actual combat takes place (and I don't consider interdiction as combat)

And to be clear I have never Logged out during any altercation, just asking the question.

Interdiction is a hostile act.

Unless I have missed the friendly interdiction module?

Lets be honest most players are already spamming the quit button the moment they fail to evade an interdiction.

But if you do not class it as combat, that is your call.

I always submit to an interdiction (in fact I don't think I have ever tried to evade one) and sometimes the outcome (NPC wise) is just a scan. To me that's only hostile if you've been a naughty CMDR.

Another question is do some people consider logging out (menu) when they think a player is lining them up for an interdiction "Combat Logging"?

I just block everyone that combat logs, I dont need that negativity in my game.

When I block someone, i feel like a winner!

That's certainly one approach that not only viable it's completely within the rules and solves two problems in one, your issue with clogging and the cloggers issue with playing with you.

Personally when gankers clog on me I regard it as a win.

...Logging to avoid combat is combat logging, it's pretty simple really.

Which makes it impossible to judge as only the person doing the logging can confirm the intent "to avoid combat".

As to the OP: as you should have noticed by now, it depends on who you ask - documentation for the various viewpoints is ample here on the forums (in a moderate form), on Reddit (a bit more vicious) and certain Discord channels (invitation-only circle j**k - no, I'm not privy to first hand knowledge from those channels, so I may be wrong).

For myself - with the people I usually associate with, combat logging means "wilfully terminating the game's server connection while in a combat situation", which includes the menu timer, but does not include running and/or waking out.

I would never task kill, and wouldn't menu log unless I felt I had been treated extremely unfairly.

The fact of the matter is though, I have 2 small kids, so if one of them throws up in the middle of our fight, I'll menu log for sure. Sorry, that's life and what the function is in the game for. I would try to communicate what happened to my aggressor, but wouldnt lose any sleep if I couldn't. Can I also say again that if someone logs on me, I win and save damage and ammo. Where is the issue?
